I've been working on these guys for the past couple of weeks. Here's what I've done up until now.

I have
one Master Necromancer
one unit of Grave Guards
one unit of Direwolves (converted from Chaos Warhounds)

I'm probably gonna get

Hexwraiths and/or Black Knights
Zombies
Skeletal Warriors
Some vampire count hero or lord (thinking about possible conversions)
ghouls

(I might just get the batallion box and try to sell the direwolves)

These are all WIP!

My Direwolves

I bought a unit of warhounds, cut away all the chaosy spikes and scales. Then filled the horn sockets with Liquid GS, which I applied generously to later carve wolf-like ears out of.

The two that are (almost) finished.

My Grave Guard still need a lot of work - currently waiting for the new paints I ordered!

RE: Primewill's painting log (first army!)

Hey, I'm doing almost exactly the same thing for dire wolves. I don't like the current models but do like the chaos warhounds. I've been working on ears for them and putting on tails from some battlemasters wolves I have.

Haha I'm liking the background for your pics oh and the dogs are lookin good.

RE: Primewill's painting log (first army!)

I like the overall feel of your finished wolves. The ears are a nice touch to make them different from the chaos hounds. Waiting to see more.

RE: Primewill's painting log (first army!)

Thanks for the replies!

@ bbeishline: I decided against getting tails mainly due to laziness, but also because they look a bit werewolf-like without the tails. I might eventually try something out though, maybe make them from green stuff.

@ Johnny-Crass: definitely getting some of the new washes (shades I suppose) once they're available. I've seen what they can do and it looks great. - and Selene is probably one of the sexiest vamps I know of ;) I couldn't resist.

I'll probably update somewhere next week when I get something done.

RE: Primewill's painting log (first army!)

Hi guys, I thought I'd give a little update on what I'm working on.
I'm currently putting my spirit host (empire flagellants) on bases,

I painted this guy to test the technique:

the scroll reads 'HELL AWAITS'

Here's the host:

I'm also working on the bases of my direwolves

I've also ordered Prince Althran (link below), which will be converted to a bloodsucking creature of the night! (If I can pull it off, that is)

RE: Primewill's painting log (first army!)

I've finally started with my count. I'm converting a high elf model (Prince Althran). I'm only changing minor things like the teeth, some batwing ornaments, gems, skulls.

here's the original model

this is what I changed

The shield was kind of a pain to get filed down properly, so I decided to stick a skeletal warrior shield on it and greenstuff the edges. It makes a very thick shield but I hope it turns out alright... I had thought about changing some things on the sword, but after all it seems unnecessary (and it was hard).

So the next step is painting! I'm not sure exactly what colours I want to use, but I'm basing my designs on Roose Bolton from ASOIAF (Dark armor, cloak with blood drops), though I'm not sure about using pink for the cloak as in the books. I'll probably start painting tonight

RE: Primewill's painting log (first army!)

great idea to use that model as a vampire. i may have to steal it :innocent:

RE: Primewill's painting log (first army!)

Haha, thanks Brahm, I hope so too!

And Vectra, steal the idea all you want it's hard enough to find cool conversion material as is. I spent quite a long time browsing the GW site to find something just right.

Ok and on to painting! :konrad:

RE: Primewill's painting log (first army!)

I couldn't stop painting tonight. I still have some things to alter and improve, but I wanted to post this little WIP already, since I'm not sure if I'll be able to tomorrow.

As you see I decided to line his cloak with the flayed skin of his enemies. My army's sigil (or at least this guy's) is going to be a drop of blood (how original huh). I'm really happy with the way the colours turned out, and how the teeth aren't even half as stupid looking as I thought they would be!

I just noticed I forgot the eyebrows... but I'm not sure if I should make them black or not, maybe it would be too much...

Anyways let me know what you think! CC please.

PS: what does GsG stand for?

RE: Primewill's painting log (first army!)

Thanks, only a little highlighting on the blood drops, and I'm not satisfied with the effect on the sword. but I'll probably leave it at this first. :P

RE: Primewill's painting log (first army!)

That just absolutely rules. I can't believe the stitching lining the cloak is just painted on, looks almost sculpted to me. And the teeth came out great... did you simply paint it to look like fangs? Really impressive effect!

Seems like you did a lot of work on converting the shield, and it came out great! Boy, for a first army, you sure are setting the bar high... I want to see you entering all the monthly conversion contests on the site, if you aren't already. Great work!

RE: Primewill's painting log (first army!)

@Benvolio

thanks! I redid the stitching so much that you could probably call it sculpting with paint! but in all seriousness, I found this thread with lots of useful painting tips (link [link] http://www.bugmansbrewery.com/topic/32659-bugmans-one-stop-shop-painting-thread/ [/link]). and the one on patched clothes really helped with this one.

the teeth are actually greenstuffed in there, which was a frustrating thing to do :P

the shield is a lot thicker than I would like, the original shield was about a millimeter thick, now it's about four. but it looks alright, very sturdy at least! vampires have superhuman strength after all he wont have a problem carrying the bloody thing :P

and about the bar... well I used to just paint random kits for the sake of painting, but this is the first time I'm getting in actual army together.

I did enter the last turning the world to darkness challenge with a zombie orc, which was fun! are there other conversion contests? I haven't come across any other.

RE: Primewill's painting log (first army!)

One of my main problems with WHFB sculpts is that most of the shields are too thin so I think yours looks perfect.

RE: Primewill's painting log (first army!)

maybe I should think about some fluff for him, that he used to be an elf before he turned. ^^

@ robtion thanks for voting, much appreciated! :D And I might wait a bit until I enter another challenge... maybe this guy can enter the sexy vampire challenge, I mean... he's not a lady but he's sexy right? :P
