Ferric is always nice, not being in a forge for 6 months gives me a surprising longing for all things ferrous.

Sorry to hear of damage caused by the post, we have a similar problem over here. All letters and parcels turn up in immaculate condition, unless they have the word 'fragile' written on them. In which case they're are invariably bent out of shape, and dented in many places.

I think that next time I order something I'll get 'em to send it in a nondescript envelope or shoe box in the hope of extending it's lifespan.

'Morning all.

I needed a break from the normal figure painting routine so I'm focusing on two contest pieces for a local event.

I'm currently working on a German Maus for a contest coming up in the end of September. I'm not really in it to win it; I'm merely in it to improve my skills and learn. The build is pretty much done. I just need to finish up creating the earth effects and then crack open the painting process.

C&C is greatly appreciated.

Further work on the turret. Needs a bit more rust and different blends. Getting there though. It's supposed to look like a replacement turret.

More updates. Coming a bit slow since I'm getting my life back in order after my engagement dissolved; life is almost back to "normal".

Turret is almost done. Anxious to get this beast ready and prepped for the contest.

Hey guys,

I actually finished it just in time for the Nordicon 2012 contest in Plymouth, Minnesota. I was incredibly excited to have received a silver on it. The judges offered some great feedback and areas to improve on and the support from the fellow entrants was incredible. I makes me pumped to start my next one.

Overall, I'm pretty pumped. I'm excited to paint again as it's a bit like therapy in recovering from my wedding and engagement being called off. However, I'm now excited to be traveling to the UK in March and meeting up with some of guys for some drinks, and yes, some painting! Merenwen's been kind enough to offer me her place to stay at for five days, the poor thing.

Good evening all,

After completing a 1/35 Maus last year, I’ve decided to jump in and have a “go” at Trumpeter’s E-100. I’m planning on doing it in a city setting, Berlin actually, and will incorporate some soldiers around it. I mainly want to use both the tank and the soldiers to give a sense of scale.
I’m planning on making the turret completely painted with some sort of camo on it. For the main structure, I’m considering bare metal with oxidation. I’m not a fan of red primer, but we’ll see. I want it to look different.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Good to see you back!
I think oxidisation would look very visually pleasing. I've found that I can't pint copper based metals without a patina now, they just don't look right. The same thing may well be said for rusted ferrous metals.

Good evening all,

I made some more progress tonight. I added some more texture to the turret and to the actual deck of the tank. It’s looking pretty good so far. I’ll add the further details tomorrow or the day after.



I also made some progress with the Friul tracks by dipping them in some Blacken’ It. They turned out pretty well and I’ll be making my way to airbrush them a bit and add some pigments.

Good evening everyone,

I made a little more progress tonight. I joined the top and bottom tonight and also added some photo-etch. I’ll add some further details tomorrow and try to improve some of the weld lines on the rear of the tank.



Progress is coming slow, but it’ll be worth all the nit-pickiness once I’m in the painting stages. As always, comments and feedback are appreciated.

Good evening guys,

I finally finished all the assembly and fitting of the tank. I primed the tank in black and then did an overspray of grey to add some contrast before I begin painting. I’ll pop the turret off and paint it its appropriate colors. I’m leaving the wheels off for last so that I can get behind them with pigments and dirt.

Made some further progress tonight: I textured the side skirts, primed them and added them to the tank. I’m working on the long task of sanding all of the road wheels now. I’ll start coating the tracks tomorrow at some point.

It’s been a busy week, but here’s an update.



The chips and weathering will be subdued with the pigments and others that I add to the tank. It's going to look well-used and poorly maintained in a '46-'47 environment if the Germans had held out a bit longer.

Hello everyone,
After getting a great book for my birthday, I decided to take a different approach to my E-100. Why not something….frosty? So I stripped the tank down, took to the hairspray method and went to work.

I applied a camo scheme seen a lot on the Eastern front as I wanted to simulate this tank being in an SS company pushing back towards the east. I then applied a white wash, took to heavily weathering it and then I applied an ochre filter.





I made some further progress on the E-100 tonight, specifically the turret. I added some enamel paint here and there to give the effect of reapplied whitewashes. I also tried my hand at some Eduard stenciling for the insignias!





Still a long way to go. Next up, further mapping and some OPR!

I had someone ask me why I haven't done much figure modeling as of late...it's because of a shoulder injury. I'm slowly getting more coordination back to the way it was before my injury. I was injury right in the shoulder's connective tissue and still have some nerve damage that effects my right hand (my dominant hand), so I'm slowly getting more comfortable about brush work. It'll get there though...

Not too much more progress tonight. I went to work carefully adding more of the whitewash mapping layers. I’ll be doing some oils, filters and pin washes here shortly.
