A not very retro addition to the army.

At a local Gamesday I picked up a second hand Terrorgheist model. It appears that whomever started assembling the model used the zombie dragon hips so It is going to end up looking a bit different than the standard Terrorgheist pose.

A wip post at my blog A veiw of things to come

I think adding the terrorgheist to my army will make it a little bit more competitive for 8th edition games.

I finished my first model for 2013 a Terrorgheist.

IMG_5812.webp

I picked it up second hand half built and half painted. The previous owner used some of the zombie dragon bits and left it with a different pose than a standard Terrorgheist but I can live with it.

It is still a slow burn project but I should have a bit more progress soon,

This is cool, and looks like not so hard to do. A useful guide, maybe I'll try this or a similar kind of unit later.
Btw, I like the new position of the TG, it's something other than the always same bowed down way

You're making me think fondly of my old Warhammer Armies Undead army. I still have all the original plastic Skeletons, the metal Carrion, Arkhan on his chariot, the Skull Catapults, Wraiths, Ghosts, and even the horrendous Nagash model.

It's great to see some of these old figures on show, and being painted, so keep up the good work. I still love the old Carrion, in particular, which are far more evocative than the current Tomb Kings version in my opinion.

Oop Grave Guard finished

I manged some hobby time and finished my unit of Oop Grave gaurd.

IMG_6058.webp

Here is the finished unit. I have left the shields and the banner blank for the moment. I want to freehand a design but haven't decided on one I like. I went ahead and finished the unit so I can get them on the table.

Thanks. I really like how the red turned out. I started with A black primer then burnt umber, then scab red, then red gore, then a mix of reaper bright red and blood red for the last highlights. The last highlights are subtle and don't appear very well in the pictures.

I've only ever saw them in black (the official GW paint job at the time), so it's nice to see new colors on them! They look great in red, make for a good looking unit for sure!

Skeleton Archers finished

I finally finished painting the Skeleton archer for my 3rd edition warhammer fantasy battle Undead army.

My favorite pose that you can no longer make with the newer skeleton archer bits.

Interesting use of 4th (or are they 3rd?) and 5th edition bits to make those :)

The lefty as the champ is an interesting choice too. Just like your grim reaper unit, I'll throw that into my "to-do" list as I have a ton of the bows and quivers, might have to hunt more bodies though if I decide to make them ;) Or they might end up in my TK, I don't know!

Nice work :)

The old skeleton arm bits are from 3rd edition and the bodies are from the 5th edition skeletons. The left handed bow bit is from the tomb king archer box.

Back in the 5th edition armybook the Lahmians could take skeleton archers and that is the army I was playing at the time. I had the skeleton archers and bits from the old Skeleton Army box from '89/'90, so I picked some tomb king archers to add to the old style ones. Before I built them, a new army book came out and they did away with the archer option for Lahmians. The models set in a box for the next eight or so years until my buddy Chuckaroobob wanted to play some 3rd edition games. The 3rd edition Undead army allowed archers so I finished a unit to field.

The reason I chose the lefty as the champ is he stands out and my opponent can easily see the difference.

Thanks for the reply and you are welcome for making your "to-do" list a little longer.

Oop Armored Blood Dragon on foot finished

I finished up an oop Blood Dragon Vampire on foot.

IMG_5675.webp

here he was after I tried to change the pose

now he is repaired and ready to play

IMG_6065.webp

The Lahmians are my favorite bloodline but it will be nice the have a Vampire Lord with better protection than a nightgown.

I ran a Lahmian Vampire lady on a winged nightmare in a Fantasy league back in 2006 and her only armor was some wrist bands of black gold. I had a lot of fun and was able to throw some of the other players a loop by not having an optimised lord.

I could probably get away with the Mithril Nightgown playing my buddies but anyone else might call foulplay.

who knows it might be a magical night gown made from mithril threads.

Nice looking blood vampire the change of pose is great on the old single piece cast.

I already have a reaper Succubus warrior to use as a winged armored vampire lady. I just need to finish painting it.

There is some armored female models out there for vampires if your allowed alternative range models. There is a cool one from cmon that is dressed like the chich from underworld.

That is the one. I have been working on it but had a couple set backs. I pinned the arms on and later knocked it off the painting desk. One arm broke past the pin so I had to remove the original pin and short piece of arm then run a pin from the broken arm piece through the seperate arm piece and back into the model's shoulder. It is repaired now and setting much further back from the table edge.

Strigoi Ghoul King and Ghoul Horde

in my bid to make a more competative army build I have acquired some new crypt Ghouls.

IMG_6190.webp

I picked them up from a buddy that is selling off his entire GW collection. With the oop metal Ghouls I already have, this will give me over sixty to build my army list with.

IMG_6191.webp

And if you are going to build a ghoul horde you might as well have a Strigoi Ghoul King to lead them. He is the Ghoul king model from the Terrorgheist model with the pose changed so it will fit on the 20mm base and rank up with the ghouls.

More Ghouls for the Horde

I have been preoccupied by life and other gaming projects but October is here and I am back working on my Vampire Counts.

IMG_6464.webp

Here is a picture of my current painted Ghouls with a few Banshees and Wraiths in the display case. I have 26 of the classic oop metal Ghouls but have been looking for more. Thanks to Evil bay I managed to pick up some.

IMG_6462.webp

Adding these eight will let me field a good sized unit using the classic models.

IMG_6463.webp

As a bonus I picked up ten more of the plastic crypt ghouls in the auction with the metal ones.

IMG_6190.webp

Totaling up, it will give me over Eighty ghouls to build a list from. Now I just have to finish painting them.

First Ghoul for Zomtober Painting challenge

I joined in Pulpcitizen's Zomtober painting challenge

I finished painting all my zombies so I am painting ghouls.

IMG_6518.webp

Base coat from a black prime. I painted the model and base burnt umber. then the skin shadow grey and drybrushed codex grey.

IMG_6535.webp

Scorched brown on the club and loin cloth

IMG_6538.webp

Graveyard earth then bleached bone on the club. tanned flesh drybrush on the loin cloth. scab red in the mouth. then a chestnut ink/future was on the club and loin cloth. Leprous brown wash on the base.

IMG_6542.webp

Skull white on the nails, club, teeth and eyes. Blood red on the tongue. Elf flesh on the loin cloth. last, antique white drybrush on the base and edged the base with leaf green.

quick and dirty, painted to match the other oop metal ghouls I painted back in 2005. I think to a table top or better quality.

IMG_6544.webp

This is a comparison picture between an original ghoul I painted back in 2005 on the left and the new painted model on the right. I used the hobby journal to match the paints and the only differences are choices I made. The 2005 blade on the model was painted bolt gun metal and then washed with a chestnut ink, while the new model I painted tin bits and drybrushed bolt gun metal. On the skull I went a bit heavier with skull white drybrush and the wash on the bases are a bit different but once I mix the new ones in with the others they should blend in fine.
