Do I have to murder a gw employee to get fell bats to a reasonable price?
To be fair, there are three in the box as opposed to one. If i remember rightly, one was about £8 ($12-$16) so it is not that bad a price

It's the fact the materials to make them each cost about 50 cents that makes me want to set something on fire.

I'm told that with plastics it costs a lot more to make the molds, etc. So although the materials are cheaper, they have a much higher initial investment that they need to recoup. It's why smaller companies stick to white metal: they can't afford to produce plastic models.
And in this case, I can't afford to buy them.
It seems like GW is dispensing with the idea that if you can sell enough plastic models to justify the expensive infrastructure, you can sell them for cheap compared to metal.

Yea, I've heard this reasoning thrown around everywhere, my family works in Tool and Die. It simply isn't true GW that is recouping thier losses -.- thats just a line they fed you when they raised the prices. And you know what, they are never going to lower them again.

You want to know how long it would take to recoup the losses for the cost of their molds? a week. 1 damn week.

GW is doing fine and when they swapped to shitcast and made all new molds they were well prepared to take a hit and risk and they wouldn't have done that if they weren't well in the green monetarily. Because as a company you simply do not take a risk like that unless you can survive it just fine. Them "Recouping" whata joke.

@Firestorm XL:

Really? The store manager at my local GW told me that it took them 10 years to make back the money spent on the Land Raider kit even though that is one of the most frequently sold models :O

Then again he is just a GW employee I guess...

If anyone uses BattleScribe with the randomhit data files and wants a jump on 8th ed vamp lists I've compiled all the information I have so far into a new data file.

I plan to do so for the Quartermaster app myself.
Yes kiddies, if you didn't knew, there is an army building app for iPhone and iPad. And it is amazing, although it isn't free (but $5 USD is totally worth it).

Well I contacted GW on why they sent me an email telling my order was shipped but I got no tracking. This was the last reply after a few emails:

Hello again [name witheld],

The e-mail that you received is an automated e-mail that is sent once an order has been picked and packed.  Usually we ship an order once it has been packed, but new releases are a slightly different case.  Due to the massive volume of orders we get for them, we pack and box them throughout the week and then wait to ship them on Friday as per our Advance Orders policy.

Bad GW, you got my hopes up by receiving a shipped order email yesterday. Looks like everyone who preordered on their site will not get their stuff until next week at the earliest.

Are you talking for the kit and the kit itself making it back? Cause they have their entire product line supporting the finecast swap and whats more they are only swapping single armies at a time at a rate of what seems 2 or 3 per year?

Whenever I pre order something I ALWAYS have it sent to my local store- as that assures that it will be in store on the release date for me to pick up :)

EDIT: Also- has anyone noticed that GW have put the new stats for our units on the website? Zombies are back to being s+t 3 :D

My missus went into the local store today (to the amazement and pant-tenting of many of the nerd tendency, seeing a female in their midst xd), and ordered my stuff. She got told it would be in for Friday and I can pick it up then. I was quite surprised I could get it a day early.

@Firestorm XL:

Oh right, I did mean just the LR making back its own cost for the mould but indeed I didn't think about having every single model they sell make back some money for the mould cost for new finecast products, so thanks for the reminder =D

Magic items, from WarSeer:

Guys I had no chance to read through the whole thread but here are the magic items for you:

Skabscrath 37.5 slaves

Bearer gets devastating charge, frenzy and can use death shriek (attaks count as flaming)

If he does not do 1 wound through the WHOLE GAME he dies

Nightshroud 20 slaves

+1 Armour save, models in base contact with the wearer loose all bonuses to strength granted by WEAPONS and get ASL

Screaming Banner 12.5 slaves

Extra dice when testing against fear discard lowest

Black useless periapt 27.5 slaves

may store up to 2 dice from HIS OWN pool both power and dispel

Staff of Damnation 20 slaves
Augment spell power lvl 4, all friendly units within 6 get +1 attack (inc mounts) till next magic phase

Useless Cursed book 17.5 slaves

At the beginning of the magic phase may sacrifice d3 power dice if you do roll a d6 and the specified spell is cast automaticaly at its lowest casting value and may be dispelled normaly

1 miasma
2 Enfeebling foe
3 the withering
4 soulblight
5 doom and darkness
6 curse of the midnight wind

book of arkhan 12.5 slaves

Power lvl 3 bound casts van hells

Rod of flaming death 20 slaves

Magic misile range 18 power lvl 3 d6 str4 hits if unit moves each model gets a str 4 hit

For reference, casting values of the spell the book casts:

1 Miasma - 5
2 Enfeebling Foe - 10
3 The Withering - 13
4 Soulblight - 9
5 Doom and Darkness - 10
6 Curse of the Midnight Wind -10

The book seems pretty solid.

So basicly, a GhoulKing with Skabby, on a Terrorgheist can easily destroy a unit of any sort of Knights within just one shooting phase, before even any close combat attack has been dealt. Or at least cause a panic test.

If they would attack in close combat, then they could wipe out a unit of 20 infantry models with some luck. I mean, 7 attacks on the charge for the GK ( if you give him ASF he'll prolly be able to reroll to hit), 4 attacks of the Terrorgheist, 1D6 Thunderstomp attacks, and before all that 2 Death Shrieks... I like the sound of that...xD

Anyone else excited for zombies to be actually useful now? haha

I am. Better than useful, they look to be the best bunker unit in the book, being cheap and easy to heal. They also become reliable flankers to deny Steadfast if you got a Corpse Cart near by to give them ASF (the Carp rules say for Zombies, it's ASF ability overrides ASL).

Sounds like what I've been waiting for since the change to 7th edition. I have tons of zombies laying around that were just not competitive until now. I'm excited to see how a large bunker of zombies with a very strong vampire within them would do to hold up an enemy unit.

Just so you know, Steadfast will only be canceled out if you have more ranks regardless of it being a flank attack.
Stupid I know.

So whats the rules on the sword, if by the last turn if he has not killed anyone he dies?... Not mid battle?
Also does his stead count?

You throw Zombies in the Flank to negate Steadfast to benefit another one of your own units fighting the same enemy in the front. Zombies in the Flank take less hits, no supporting attack and if the enemy has few ranks, even less attacks. Basic Tactic my friend applicable to most armies. :)

Or you attack from the front with like sixty zombies and flank them with something better like BK. So the odds are your valuable BK won't take much damage whilst doing a lot.

True, but when the Zombies are being used as bunkers, you may which for them to get attacked less unless necessary. ;)
My comment was on using them as bunkers and flankers. :)

So if you have 2 corpse carts next to a unit of GG (within 6”) and you cast invocation and the bubble includes them within its range, wil the GG lose ASL as it cancels with first cart and then gain ASF with the second??
