Undying Scourge
Blood Knight
The Knights originally came from a long-destroyed kingdom that existed to the east of where the Empire now lies in a forgotten land. None know of its existence because all traces of it were obliterated by the knights in their vengeful crusade against their own people. They hunted down and slaughtered everyone in the most bloody, painful ways they could, including women, children and babies, hacking them apart and decorating their once-peaceful villages with their heads and entrails, painting the walls with their blood, then tearing the buildings down and casting them into ruin.
This happened because they were betrayed by the new King while on a campaign and returned to find themselves branded criminals. Making their final stand in their castle, they were again betrayed by their own soldiers, who opened the gates to allow the enemy in. Retreating to the inner keep, Viktor was distraught and his mind shattered when he found his one, true love dead by her own hand. Abandoning his oath to his people and swearing to avenge himself and his love, he died after being hacked apart by the King's troops alongside his knightly brothers in a heroic last stand.
Their order was the most honourable and just group of knights that ever existed, and were probably even more virtuous and noble than the sons of Bretonnia, and their fall from that state is tragic.
Their utter corruption came at the hands of Nagash himself, who took great interest in their damned souls, seeing their brooding hatred and rage over their unjust demise, and made them his ultimate weapon of extermination to take revenge on the Priest Kings. They are quite possibly the very first order of vampiric knights, although their rebirth as vampires came after the birth of the vampires in Lahmia. They have, however, learned from Abhorash's example and follow his teachings to some degree.
Also yes, they are deliberately painted to look cartoonish because I feel that Warhammer is a very cartoonish setting. The models look cartoonish with oddly proportioned bodies, the whole universe is insanely over the top and slightly campy, and is chock-full of bizarre creatures and madmen. Also I made the board out of MDF and insulation foam, the castle is the Warhammer Fortress cut to fit the board, the snow is citadel snow mixed with PVA glue and Modelmates spray-on snow for the buildup on the walls, the ice chunks are bits of slate and cork, and the icicles are from the GW Northern Wastes basing kit.
I painted the GG weapons different colours because, like the knights, they all stem from the different Aspects, as each Aspect has its own household guard of Wights.
