May just have to pay a visit to my local GW to see if I find out more, although I don't exactly play anymore i still love all the background still and the thought of a small campaign based around Mannfred and the VC would be quite cool

Dan_Lee said:I've read the whole Sigmar's Blood book today and I've posted a review on my website if anyone's interested.
I thought it was great and I'll be trying to find an Empire opponent for the new year to try out the campaign with.

Quick question. If I wanted to appropriate the campaign and its scenarios to use other characters or armies, how hard would that be?
If I wanted to use say, my own Vampire characters and my opponents High Elf army, would that be possible?
It was a nice for some of the lore and it explained why he took the princess in the Vampire counts book.
Still the end opf the campaign was terrible though from looking at it in terms of lore.
Holy items burried underground rising up destroying the undead army just as they were about to win... again.
How many times do i have to read the same sort of ending?
Empire Again won the crusade via a win button as expected.

Did you read the story on pages 46-47? The main text does have the Empire win with a "win button" as you say, but then the story explains Volkmars fate.
SPOILER ALERT:
Mannfred kills Volkmar and successfully severs the link between the gods and Sylvania, preventing them from using their faith there. He also summons a wall of bone all along Sylvanias border, turning Sylvania into a vast fortification. Combined with his still active perpetual night spell I'd say that's a pretty solid Mannfred win.
True the items and experience stuff is a bit weak, but its supposed to be a narrative campaign not a competitive rules supplement.

Sylvania was now fully turned into a vampire state?
After all, Vlad was not evil and looked after his subjects, you were only in danger if you went against him

Eh not fully true. Vlad killed many innocents as long as it meant he advanced in power and some of them where butchered in quite cruel ways. Humans for him where food, cattle. You won't feel bad when one dies and a few are ended for sport but it is bad to slaughter all of them because ...well vamps need their food.
When i read the Vampire Wars first book I kept wondering where on earth have people got the image that he was not evil and he looked after his subjects all that much. Sure he was not as bad as a certain mad Carstein that followed but still not a nice man.
Not entirely true, he always sought a peaceful means first but if that did not work then he would.
As he did care for his own he is a hell of allot better than some of the people who have lead the empire over the years and at the time of multiple emperors he did nothing any of the others were not already guilty of themselves.
They need peaople yes but they do not need to rule them, if he only sought a food cource he could hold captives and kill the rest breeding them as needed but he did not.
Also it was through his actions that led to Nagashes downfall and freeed the vampires from his control.
You have to remember as well the Von Draks were evil rulers.
They had taxes no one could pay, let the realm fall into disrepair, bandits were common place and people were killed publically for amusement to no end.
Vlad Lowered taxes, repaired the realm and united it again, maintained the laws and he did not kill without cause, to them he was a saint, he protected them because they were his people and this was his realm, any who were loyal were not harmed, those who were not suffed strange ill fortunes and were eventually replaced or disapeared in strange accidents.
Even in the game mechanics as well as the lore they both could not live without the other.
The world is a bleak place when you have no one to live for.
