May just have to pay a visit to my local GW to see if I find out more, although I don't exactly play anymore i still love all the background still and the thought of a small campaign based around Mannfred and the VC would be quite cool

I have high hopes for this one too but I'll be waiting to see a few reviews before purchasing. They could do so much with it - new characters and stuff related to the campaign could be pure awesome but I doubt it will happen.

New lore there will be, new characters in that lore yes but new playable character rules like there is in the army books...
Thats not going to happen, hell even army supliment books don't always get new characters, Iron Hands being a prime example, A campaign book won't even have a snowballs chance.

Just seen GW website and they are releasing a Mannfred von Carsteins undead horde for £304 (UK) now just worked that out and the only saving that anyone purchasing this would make is the £20 you would save from the battalion box's original saving, however the fact that it is a large army starter/expansion kit for any existing or new VC player the only saving that would be made is possibly that of time from purchasing all the units/items individually making it some respects quite tempting.

Empire bundle pretty much same deal more of a time saver than a money saver, as only cash saving is coming from original saving of battalion box set of £17

I've read the whole Sigmar's Blood book today and I've posted a review on my website if anyone's interested.

I thought it was great and I'll be trying to find an Empire opponent for the new year to try out the campaign with.

Thanks a lot, will give it a full read, skimmed your review fast and looks like it's mainly positive, yet another incentive to pick it up! Cool :D

This book is fantastic! I really like it!

Quick question. If I wanted to appropriate the campaign and its scenarios to use other characters or armies, how hard would that be?

If I wanted to use say, my own Vampire characters and my opponents High Elf army, would that be possible?

I've been thinking about that myself. In terms of the scenarios, it shouldn't take much. Simply swap out units for rough equivalents (e.g. Empire swordsman for High Elf spearmen). The odd victory condition may need altering too but it wouldn't be that difficult.

Making the story match up would take more work. Without giving the plot away though, Mannfred could have a good reason for getting all sorts of armies to attack him - so it's doable.

Well I read it on the weekend as well and I have a somewhat different opinion.

Empire Again won the crusade via a win button as expected.

The New Magical Items are just a few slightly tweeked rule book ones which tell you to check the main rule book for their rules.

There is typo's every few pages and one of the experience abailities as well where characters get a little better as time goes on was that mannfred could get Summon creatures of night which he already has so the ball was dropped there.

Also its worth saying that the armies were fairly uneven in the campaign as well.

It was a nice for some of the lore and it explained why he took the princess in the Vampire counts book.

Still the end opf the campaign was terrible though from looking at it in terms of lore.
Holy items burried underground rising up destroying the undead army just as they were about to win... again.
How many times do i have to read the same sort of ending?

More details on story spoilers!

Did you read the story on pages 46-47? The main text does have the Empire win with a "win button" as you say, but then the story explains Volkmars fate.

SPOILER ALERT:

Mannfred kills Volkmar and successfully severs the link between the gods and Sylvania, preventing them from using their faith there. He also summons a wall of bone all along Sylvanias border, turning Sylvania into a vast fortification. Combined with his still active perpetual night spell I'd say that's a pretty solid Mannfred win.

True the items and experience stuff is a bit weak, but its supposed to be a narrative campaign not a competitive rules supplement.

That's just plain epic, I don't know what else to make of it.

I did read it all, the problem is though the way it ended again with empire winning in a stupid way, annoys the living hell out of me.

I do like that Mannfred finally wins something but parts of it were just stupid, that last battle chief amongst them.
My only hope however is that this is excepted as the new lore and the timeline has now progressed, maybe only a little but anything is better than nothing.

Hey, empire spin is what they are known for, it was funnt how in sword of justice and sword of vengence they devistated a whole provice, capital city gone, the count painted as a mad man and a huge deamon incursion where nearly the whole empire army was destroyed was painted as a crushing victory and a minor battle.

So wait, wait, wait.

Sylvania was now fully turned into a vampire state?

Yes though with people dying out there is not allot of food about.
Considering strong vampires can walk in light anyway it seems a bit of a waste.

I am just hoping they bring Vlad back to combat Mannfred, Vlad as a Count once more and a Empire Character perhaps.
After all, Vlad was not evil and looked after his subjects, you were only in danger if you went against him.

I'm concerned they'll just reset the timeline again too. In 40k the Eye of Chaos campaign (or whatever its called) advanced the timeline, but they ended up pretending it never happened when the next edition came out.

Eh not fully true. Vlad killed many innocents as long as it meant he advanced in power and some of them where butchered in quite cruel ways. Humans for him where food, cattle. You won't feel bad when one dies and a few are ended for sport but it is bad to slaughter all of them because ...well vamps need their food.

When i read the Vampire Wars first book I kept wondering where on earth have people got the image that he was not evil and he looked after his subjects all that much. Sure he was not as bad as a certain mad Carstein that followed but still not a nice man.

Not entirely true, he always sought a peaceful means first but if that did not work then he would.
As he did care for his own he is a hell of allot better than some of the people who have lead the empire over the years and at the time of multiple emperors he did nothing any of the others were not already guilty of themselves.

They need peaople yes but they do not need to rule them, if he only sought a food cource he could hold captives and kill the rest breeding them as needed but he did not.
Also it was through his actions that led to Nagashes downfall and freeed the vampires from his control.

You have to remember as well the Von Draks were evil rulers.
They had taxes no one could pay, let the realm fall into disrepair, bandits were common place and people were killed publically for amusement to no end.
Vlad Lowered taxes, repaired the realm and united it again, maintained the laws and he did not kill without cause, to them he was a saint, he protected them because they were his people and this was his realm, any who were loyal were not harmed, those who were not suffed strange ill fortunes and were eventually replaced or disapeared in strange accidents.
You have to remember as well that it was in this realm that he found his true love which changed him for the better, where as before he sought to gain the title of office through marriage he found a love he could not live without.
None of the other counts has ever had anything close to such an emotion serving only their own interests.
Even in the game mechanics as well as the lore they both could not live without the other.
The world is a bleak place when you have no one to live for.

Konrad killed because he was mad, Mannfred because he wants a world of death, Vlad wished to rule and did not try to do so with cruelty and slaughter but with leadership which saw him betrayed.

He allowed his vampires to torture and toy with mortals as if they where nothing.
Men can be monsters as well but that does not make Vlad a less of a monster.

I don't know how Vlad had anything to do with Nagashes downfall-...However you are wrong. Vlad -WANTED- to rule. He wanted his vampires to rule and he believed because they where immortal they where perfect to such. He was completely blind to the problems it has raised in the past.

Vlad dispatched anyone who did not bow to him quite brutally and he slaughtered the nobles and people in places of power to allow his favored vampires to take over. Peasants and such where not simply butchered as much because -...Well the cow example again.

Even in the game mechanics as well as the lore they both could not live without the other.

Vampires are capable of feelings of love and desire. This has never been disputed. His wife was quite the fucked up sadist x) Again a pair of monster that love each other does not make them good! xP
