Summerfield's painting trench (Grail Chapel)

  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
In the dead of night he rides! This took me way longer than I anticipated, but I am quite happy with the outcome. Now I only have 14 more of these to paint, but the should hopefully be a little quicker to complete.

Looking really good, I'm not completely convinced about the red as in my mind its a bit too solid red.

I do agree about the red. I used khorn red, then blood of the blood god and tried to highlight it using Evil Sunz Scarlet. It pops a little too much (like it is too fresh) and it kinda spoils to image of the rest of it. I am considering to cut of any flesh bits from the other horses to get a pure skeletal look. Or try to darken the flesh considerable. I will experiment on my other horses to try and get a more decaying look to the flesh. Good critic, this I like. :suck:

I changed the paint scheme for the ghouls and instead of the flamboyant pinkish spikes they are now purple. It looks better I think even though it is not as loud and proud. :)

Only 11 yet, and 29 to go. When all is painted I plan to get them up in the ghoul section of completed forces.

Nice necromancer - good work on the orb and the flayed face - that's a simple idea there, but it looks great, good work with that ;] I also love the bloody work on the filler - and especially the guy in the corner - he looks a little like this guy HERE - "it's okay, i'm cool!" xD

Started on the TG. I will do this in very traditional colors, black wings, gray flesh tones etc. But the hairs at the side and the tong will be a main focal point which will have a dark purplish color not unlike the colors my ghouls have on their hair spikes. I plan to pain up another one which will have dark purple wings and white flesh, but that is in the distant future.

I like these ones more. I also normally don't like purple, but here it works great - makes a very classic undead feel, at least to me ;)

Thanks, the purple kinda looks very over washed in these pictures but to the naked eye I think it turned out much more even and deep.

I definitely prefer the fleshy parts of those two knights, fits in alot better in my mind, also looking forward to seeing the terrorghiest, having lots of problems envisioning mine atm :/

I painted up the TG, it is in the completed forced section here. But I am far from happy with it. It is my first big model and I made a lot of critical errors, but it was a great learning experience. To be fair, it is a very boring standard TG, no wow factor or anything.

Here is an update! :)

Started to put together my Wight King on skeletal steed. I have grown to really hate finecast a lot. The horse was a total disaster and I was forced to do some extensive greenstuffing on it.

My three Spirit Hosts. Done with mostly Empire units and some bits. Also got my hands on a halfling and half of a standard bearer which I thought could be nice to have.

40 Zombies are done. I played around a lot with some colors to make some a little older and dryer, while other are freshly awaken. There is also a green one.

This will be my mounted vampire lord on a nightmare. The horse is from a high elf chariot I think. I originaly planed to use it for my mounted necromancer, but I decided to have it with my vampire and I play a lot of mounted vampires in my Black Knight unit. I made a saddle for him.

Good to see another update, very nice spirit host you have there.
On the mounted vamp, like the choice, was considering similar using the lions instead, though I feel sorry for the horse lugging his heavy behind about :P

A note on finecast though, your paying a premium here, phone up customer service about it and get it replaced, their models are not cheap, should be expecting it to at least bloody come out right, had problems with the harli's for my dark eldar and fixed it the hard way, but reading up on the likke later all I've ever heard now is customer service is good for replacing, just a heads up if you have to deal with the failcasts again.

So about that vampire lord, he got some more stuff on him...
Lucky for the Nightmare it is undead and can carry all that.
I drilled a hole through the hindside of the nightmare to attatch a pole which holds the vampires great sword. Used a lot of hooks, chains and skulls. Will fix the sword so the handle looks alright, will also tilt it somewhat so that it looks like it is in motion. Also thinking of doing some sort of flag or banner at the top.

Here is some progress on the vamp lord. Would probably say it is about 70% done, must fix a lot of little details like gemstones and such. Currently working on the horn banner on his back.

I really like your Vargheist color schema! I hope you don't mind but im keen to copy your it. My army colors are blue but i really wanted my Vargheists to have good fluff feel. I want them to look like they have spent decades starving imprisoned underground, the pasty look is perfect, so bloodless and pail!
