THE BLOODLINE LEGACIES PROJECT

  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
-Moved the last (made this far) Special characters over to the army list thread.

-All Core units have now been moved to the Bloodline Legacies Army List thread. Stills needs a bit of editing to get it to look better etc, but at least it is all there, including the new Barrow riders, a Blood Dragon only Core unit.

There seems to be mount-option for the coven throne with the Lahmia vampire lady. Is this intended?

I'm undecided about the Coven Throne yet Thorin. I'm certainly going to use the model in the Lahmia army, but I was considering other uses for it, one making it a Rare option, another as a mount for Neferata.. It's one of those units which I havent really gotten to yet... It will most assuredly be in the list though. :)

-Added Krell, or rather a new version of him to the project. He is now a Lord, which opens up the possibilities of doing more with him, and to take him a bit closer towards the kind of a creature as he is in the Sigmar triology, the kind of killer who "slays a hundred warriors faster than one can count them"...

He also has two mount options, and the idea for these came from the Zombie Slayer book, where he rides an undead wyvern if memory serves, and the Sigmar Triology, where he is described as riding an undead steed at some point.

-all Special and Rare options moved to the army list thread:

Any progress with the Lahmia 'Gallants' in the meantime, or are you playtesting them?

The rules for Krell are great, but I wonder if you plan to make Heinrich Kemmler a hero, as Krell is a lord-choice now.

Hey Thorin

I haven't really done much with the project the last few weeks, I've taken a small break, and I've had other stuff to do, as well as a sick GF to take care of. Still hope to get back on track soon, but since 3 of the 5 bloodlines are now pretty much playable I don't feel the rush to get the rest done, as people are probably not going to be that interested until they start to get a little tired of the new 8.ed book as it is. Also, I need time to actually get to play test things a little myself as well :)

Kemmler will definitely be a Lord option, perhaps even a bit more powerful than he is currently in the 8.ed book. The justification for this is that he is fulfilling a bit of another function in the Bloodline Legacies list, than in the 8.ed VC book.

It won't take long xD
Your project is so much nearer to the fluff than the 'official' list, and there are so many interesting new units to select from...
Devaluating the idea of bloodlines to a mere pool of powers to choose from and making the bloodlines mainly the stuff for background-stories was a bad mistake by GW in my opinion, I hope they will find their way back to the roots with the next army book (around the year 2017?!?).
I'm looking forward to new input from you, and will do my best to support you with feedback and thoughts.
Concerning the interest of people - did you notice that this thread has been read more than a 1,700 times by now? Looks like a lot of interest to me

We'll see how long it takes. In any case, a "home made" alteration like this will never be official, so for the hardcore players something like this will always be of little consequence, so the project is mostly for those who enjoyed the richer background on the bloodlines in earlier editions. :)
I actually do think that the stronger themes will often make it more fun to play against as well, especially as the VC army becomes more tactically diverse overall, with a more functioning Core Section, and not so much dependent on the "over the top" Vampire Lords.

I think GW made mistake in half-assing the bloodlines in the 8.ed book as well, but I expected it to be honest. GW is restricted to a 96 page format for one thing, and they are a business, prioritizing selling new models. They are also on a tight release schedule with the army books, and to implement the Bloodlines in a somewhat "proper" fashion, would have required much more from them as a company in both time and resources, especially as far as the models themselves go. Sadly, I expect this to be the case with the next book as well, which means that we'll start to see more of a permanent phase-out of the bloodlines, leaving only the "veteran" players to miss it when the new book comes around. I'll probably be near my forties by then..

I appreciate all the help I can get Thorin, as always :)

I suspect that I am a large part of those 1700+ hehe, but yes. It has gotten some interest. Many seems to have missed that All unit entries and rules are now in one thread though. At least for now.

you are awesome

I'm almost more flattered by the fact that this was your first post, more than the claims of my awesomeness. :)

Kidding aside though, I'm happy that some people take an interest, as that is part of the motivation for such a big undertaking. Feedback is gold, at least that which falls in the constructive criticism category.

Playing is for fun, isn't it? So I have always taken a great interest in home-made lists, no matter if it was for Warhammer, Warhammer 40k or Lord of the Rings.
To me, powergaming is no fun... what's the point in finding the undefeatable combination of troops and magic equipment? In my opinion a game among friends is for telling a story and creating remarkable moments, which are worth to be remembered later.
I remember a game, when I had 89 percent casualities, and still won the game (at 5 a.m., after having played around 8 or 9 hours)... and another game, when I tried to copy a historical battle plan and was shot to pieces in the shortest time you can imagine (THAT game took substantially less time than 9 hours)...

That is my take on it as well Thorin. Ideally, the army list should be so that you won 50% of the time balance-wise, but this is off course never going to happen, due to too many variables etc. Still, it is the ideal that one has to aspire too to make a good list in the end, and a good list should be "fair". This idea will off course never appeal to the kinds of players that win most of their games due to army composition alone, and are happy to have it that way, but to those of us who enjoy the hobby for what it is, a game of strategy and chance. :)

That said, I don't truly know the big picture of the change to the army that I've implemented so far, since I have only had very limited game testing the last 2-3 months, but the goal has always been to have distinct advantages as well as disadvantages to all the various bloodlines to get them across better in game terms.

Please don't laugh... I saw Neferata, Anastasia the Crimson Bride, the Krudenwald Fiend and units of Grave Guard or Skeletons in this trailer xD

Looking forward to this movie. Start in theaters: June 1st, 2012.

Looking over the project's army list, I realized that the Necrarch abominations missed the point cost, unit size etc. Got that fixed.

Working on the Lahmins now, and hope to post a new unit entry soon, the Lahmian Partisans. The Lahmians will most likely be the next Bloodline to be finished, but I also have to finish their bloodline unique magic items, fix the Coven Throne, make Neferata as well as a hero special character choice.

Had a bit of a break due to it being summer and having a lot of work to do on the house etc, but I shall continue the project as planned. All feedback and help is appreciated as always. :)

Thanks Thorin.

Working on a unit of Lahmian Minions/Partisans (name not final yet) at the moment.
The idea is basically a 5-20 strong unit of human minions (typically duellists, young rakes, aspiring knights, etc), with a Lady's Champion to lead them. They will also have the ability to include a "champion" level Lahmian Vampire.

They will have the Scout and Skirmishers special rules, and I'm considering several option packs for them, to reflect country of origin/background and to provide a bit more variety. This will also help cement the idea that the Lahmians are to be found surrounded by human minions all over the old world.

Dropped the "Gallants" idea that we discussed previously, in favor of this idea.

Only Empire and Bretonnia, or also Kislev, Tilea, Estalia?
I like the idea of an additional vampire champion.

First thoughts on Bretonnia:
The only "light" infantry from Bretonnia would be units of dismounted yeomen/squires. Would Lahmia bother with such low-ranking folk (in the hierarchy of Bretonnia, at least)? As to fluff, I would think they would not act "lower" than with knights errant, at the very least. But that is heavy cavalry...
Something in the direction of a unit of warrior hermits? But that's heavy infantry, again.
A knight, who leads such low folk, would have to remove his armour, otherwise "scouts/skirmishers" wouldn't fit.

Kislev:
Kossars... multi-purpose-infantry... great! With two champions!

Tilea:
Vespero's Vendetta (Regiment of Renown... from older days). PM me if you need something in that direction.

Estalia:
rather difficult. There is little to no fluff available.

What I'm thinking so far, is to have a "common" set that can represent a variety of people from the Old World as a basic kit, then an upgrade for the more "exotic" set of minions that are to be found from varying nations etc.

So far I have:

-"Imperial Rakes", whom I imagine to be lesser nobles, spoiled sons of the burghers whom I imagine being well equipped with pistols and perhaps Heavy armour (Full Plate and great weapon for the champion perhaps)

-"Bretonnian XXX". I was thinking Knights Errant initially, but I think that would be better as a sort of champion option, while the rest were squires. I'm considering giving this group stubborn for as long as there is a Lahmian in the unit. They are all fairly low LD, due to them being food for the lahmians and all.. Probably LD 6. The other idea is to have a unit of Knights Errant, but that would have to be a Cavalry unit, which complicates things a bit. So, option 1 for now.

-"Estalian Diestros": Don't know how familiar you are with theese, but if you have played warhammer rpg, there is some information on them there. Basically, we're talking zorro-type duellists here. I'm thinking of letting them have two hand wapons, and still benefit from a 'Parry' save to represent them using their cloaks to ensnare weapons with etc..

-"Tilean Rogues": Vespero's Vendetta were sort of my inspiration here to be honest. I'm thinking two weapons, Poisoned Attacks. Throwing Weapons. Champion gets sniper special rule.

This is more of an outline of what I have so far, but nothing is final. The idea is to keep it as a special choice, so that Lahmians can potentially bring several of these units to the table, each one possibly containing a "champion" lvl Vampire as well. I think it would represent quite well the diversity and "hidden in human society" aspect of the Lahmians. It is also a good place to incorporate the "Lady's Champion" idea, without making a whole seperate "swain2 type unit entry.

It seems we're thinking a bit alike Thorin. Yes, the more obscure human nations can be represented well enough by the non-upgradable solution for those interested...

Might be quiet here until next weekend unfortunately, as I'll be away for the whole week on some job training stuff.

I had a thought on a common name for these units before upgrades.
Instead of Minions or Partisans how about
(confirmed) Fellowship of the Beloved/ of the Maiden
(humble) Devotee of the Damsel

Just posted my unit idea for the Lahmian Minions in the Special section of the Bloodline Legacies Army list thread.

Thorin:

I did consider other name ideas, but the prolem I found, was that it is very easy to make them a bit too specific, and with no official fluff-reference to build on, it easily becomes more limiting than one thinks. Besides, nearly all warhammer units do have pretty "generic" names, and I didn't want to stray too far from that. Thanks for the suggestions though. :)

Changed the Fell Bats quite a bit. The rules are now more simplified, yet represent them well.

I also gave them a Strigoi only upgrade, to add some more variation to the Strigoi Bloodline army list.
