I too just look at it now and then, but have never seen anyone there. I suppose the massive forum that it's attached to makes it somewhat irrelevantxD

why... I'm on right now :P if you have a look at the history you can see it does get used, but it's coincidence when two people are on at the same time, mostly because it's easier to check posts than sit on the chat waiting for someone else to be on, and because no one is on people leave.

What happens is because no one is ever on, people who do go on don't see anyone ever and so stop going on, so then no one is ever on (its a vicious cycle)

Anyways, ill be keeping the chat open in a tab whenever I browse CN for now on- feel free to pop in and have a chat with me if any of you want.
Im GMT +8 and work 7 hours a day, 5 days a week however, so youll only see me on after work which may be at weird times for ya'all.

Ironically, I sit here wasting time looking at the forums (In real time sometimes, not just slowly) and don't even have the chat myself.

..I don't wanna get rid of any zombies :ghost:

It really saves refreshing the forums every few minutes....

Nahhh, because when I run out of replies to respond to, I either explore new parts of the site/forums, and learn a bit about something OORRRR I go off to paint for a bit and sometimes I even get work done! (Outrageous I know)

Now, if I had people to talk to without end? I would allow myself to get sucked in, and fall into dwaddling and failure. Plus I need to jealously guard my zombies, like I said :konrad:

I think you need a feature showing how many people are actually inside the chat currently. And it has to be shown from the forum index.

Or: integrating the chat into the forum index somehow.

That'll increase activity and overall usability, IMHO.

edit: but to be honest, even at the time when I was still active, it wasn't the most-used feature of the forum.

Off topic: Welcome back Master Vampire, will you be staying for a while?

On topic: the trouble with the first idea is that that has the possibility to reduce the number of people attempting to use chat, as if you can see that no one is in there you are less likely to join. The trouble with the second idea, which sounds much like a shoutbox is that you tend to not get long running conversations going and they resort to more passing comments or repeating because of the limited space to view what has previously been said so traffic might increase but it;s a definite change in quality.

OT: I'm not planning on becoming active. I've been thinking of painting mini's in some weekends when I'm at my parents, though. But these weekends happen irregularly.

I don't think this is necessarily true. As people have been mentioning that they often find an empty chat room, if they wait a bit they can be joined by others who see someone's in the chat room. I get the feeling people tend to wait some time before closing the chat.

True. This is primarily what will happen. Though, isn't banter the generic topic on the chat room? If anything serious is being discussed, it would counter-produce the forum (in effect).

This brings me to the next question: what is the chat room exactly used for? I feel awkward because of this, because I think I was the first to mention a chat room when I was still active as admin. But being relatively objective now (as in: not active), I feel the forum takes care of most topics already. CN has an off topic forum, on topic sections, 40K, user projects and roleplaying. The chat room functions as a faster method to get response on questions regarding these topics. But I'm not sure of this.

An interesting idea is to have a chat for all WHFB related fora. I believe it existed in the past. That 1) increases member base for the chat and 2) opens up possibilities to easily chat with people from other fora. This generates new interest.

OH MY GOD IT'S MV! YOU'RE LIKE... MY HERO!
PLEASE SIGN MY FORHEAD!

I think the plan about putting an indicator as to how many people are in the chat would be a good idea.
