The dead are among us- a tale of conversion and paint

  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
@Mnemloch You're filling your PLOG with nice-looking minis in no time - inspiring enough to make me get back to mine this week.

I love your grave guard in particular, they look awesome ranked up together in that scheme and matching under that banner.

Keep up the good work!

I like your Mannfred. The green nicely works with the reds - especially his weapon - it could use a highlight, though. It would stand out more. It wasn't as apparent on the first pic you have with Mannfred. Still, nice work and impressive speed, as usual ;)

@Leithel The skulls are reddish orange and I would love to share the formula but unfortunately the first wash is one I created messing around with some tubes, (white base, a burnt umber mixed wash), then 2 washes with the Citadel orange wash.

@Borgnine I agree, trying to figure out his weapon for highlight.

@Mad 'At Yea, I wasn't a fan of how "purple" he came out with just the wash. I was hoping for more muted. Have been playing around with some washes on the side to try and get the effect I want to see.

Thanks guys!

The more you paint, the more space you'll have on your desk, that's a rather novel motivation to paint xD Normally I would worry about dust setting on the minis and disturbing the paint later, but you paint so fast, it shouldn't be a problem ;)

These dark tomb guards look terrific! Will you be adding more colors or would the stay more or less like now?

Haha, the desk was completely cleared a couple weeks ago and not pictured is the boxes on the floor needing to be built, or the boxes with primed models in it. I may have a problem lol.

I am probably going to highlight the bandages with 2 tones of brown to make them distinguishable from the bone. Not sure which I want, as I want it light enough to not really detract, but enough to distinguish. Other than that they will remain as they are. I am putting together a TK army (most likely sell it off since I don't like the theme) but I am theming it around a Kantor Blue color that ties all the units together and to their leader, whom I will make Arkhan. I may play a game or two with it and maybe that will save them from the auction bloc, but who knows. Right now just enjoying painting them.

That's an enviable horde by anyone's standards! And you've only been collecting for 3 months?! I have to say, I'm a massive fan of eBay and I built my army up in the same way over the past five years; though I've been hobbying since I was 12, I had a few failed starts for want of time, funds and skill. No matter what gets discontinued, you'll always find what you're looking for online and rarely costing more than its original retail price. My beloved armoured halberdiers were all bought online at a very healthy discount, maybe 30-40% off; the danger for me is it encourages you to buy more!

Exactly @Dragonet

The wife has barred me from anymore purchases until I trim my current holdings... I have a bunch of metal figures I will see about unloading first. Then maybe some of the Black Knights/Black Knight Conversions and Hexwraiths.

Basically been playing some games to see how it goes and weed out which units I don't like the feel of on the table.

Unbeknownst to her, I am buying a Chaos army today... 1/2 the starter set (Chaos 1/2) for $30 from a friend. Figured why not... lol

So I felt that my Blood Knights needed a more iconic Kastellan, someone who just looked like he should be leading a group of vampire knights who are always hunting for bloody battle.

and just b/c I enjoy the lance painting so much. Close up ;)

I'm in the same boat Mnemloch, too many large purchases and just when you think you're finally out, they drag you back in! I'm glad to say I got a massive hand from a mate only yesterday who's selling my rejects for me; unfortunately he's also upgraded my Guard life from plastic Cadians to some beautifully painted metal Valhallans!

Those Blood Knights are a sight for sore eyes; I must finally get mine built and onto the table!

Took a break and painted some SE I had picked up for eBay (gotta fund the addiction).

Finally took my train car out of the box and got some first rough ideas on the Black Coach conversion I want to do.

Cool use for the Nagash's sword! Only I'd put it so that the ghostly spikes that the sword has go with the direction of the coach - it would add some sense of speed. Maybe even shorten the ones facing forwards, so that this effect is strengthened.

Also, I see an old black coach in the background - what plans do you have for it? ;)

Thanks! Those are really good ideas. I put it up in our for sale forums, after no bites I just sold it on eBay. It came in an auction I had picked up, and arrived after I had already done a mental map of this conversion. No need for 2, and not a huge fan of working with the metal mini's so away it went.

Probably tomorrow will post up all the metal hero mini's I have to eBay, well at least a first round.
