The dead are among us- a tale of conversion and paint

  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
@Calmdown The ladies are from the Coven Throne. The wings are Dark Eldar Scourge Bat Wings.

Since I built my CT as a ME I had 3 ladies to play around with.

The third is sitting among empire loot and bodies, I haven't finished her she is sitting on a worktable with a gazillion other 1/2 completed projects lol.

I do need to update some pictures, I have been painting like mad but not much on pictures or getting on here :(

AoS escalation/narrative and personal life taking up too much time.

@Mnemloch I think this might be the biggest update I've ever seen in a PLOG yet. You've sure gotten a crazy amount of minis built & painted up!

I think my favourite has to be your ethereals. Your greeny colour scheme really looks putrid & cool with your basing. The conversion on Nagash has worked out well too, seeing him without that giant hat is pretty nice. The different coloured gems adds a few nice spot colours there too.

Your Morghasts' weapons look great, although I think a final edge highlight could work wonders here. Keep up the gret work!

That really is a very interesting take on Morghasts, I do quite like it. They look incredibly evil with all that red and black.

I like your take on Nagash too. The headswap works very nicely. I'd say it is a bit of a shame that he is not painted in the same colours as the Morghasts, that would have been really cool. But still, great work as is :)

I have made my army where the morghasts are the bodyguards of the mortarchs. so each set of 2 match the paint scheme of their respective mortarch. Eventually I will do a picture of each of the mortarchs armies, and then one with the full legion of death. I think it will come together nicely.

Yea an edge highlight may work here. I feel I may revert the actual spirit bodies on the morghasts back to the green scheme (leaving their skull spirits orange though). Not 100% sure here. In person the suggestion was maybe to take 1 of the 2 oranges and edge highlight the red armor to pull the whole model together. Edge highlight on weapons may work too, thanks for the suggestion!

Hell yeah, nice update!

Good entries all around, but as it was already mentioned, Morghasts really draw the eye - they look as if Khorne taken them over ;) Terrific! Big baddie Nagash is also nice. Red details on Terrorgheist and Grave Guards are also a good thing - really pops out :)

This one looks way more hellish than previous one and that bloody red is really nice on that greenish base ;)

Also, it's a shame that there are no medals or badges here - you should get a one for your painting - not only you paint more than the rest of this forum combined, but you paint some models TWICE! xD

Wow, what a whirlwind 2017 was... needless to say, grad school, buying a house, remodeling some of said house, and new job made it so that I pretty much fell off the map. Couple that with I forgot my password and which email it was tied to. All fixed now, and hopefully some gaming/modeling in my future. Also looks like I need to rehost all the pictures and repost them.

Hope everyone has been doing great things!

So it seems that the photos are all lost... some forever since I eBayed some items through the year. Oh well. Good time to take restock and new pics!

First up, my Blood Knights. These guys were the backbone of my armies in 2016, and I plan on making a Legion of Blood list that will utilize them (even in their nerfed form) in combo with the Blood Castle battalion. That being said, it means I need to make ~10 more BKs at least! lol

The Mortarchs, beloved by Nagash (as much as any I guess)

First up, Arkhan!

Before we get to the dregs of society, the common lowly foot soldiers, let us remember why all our armies gather.

To pay homage to this guy, Nagash. (Converted of course to not have a ridiculously small head with giant hat).

@Mnemloch Most people go for either chaos knights or dragon princes but you've got a nice mix going on there. I think it works well since a lot of knights have their own individual identity.

That Nagash is great too, the hat removal operation has worked nicely - I plan on doing something similar with mine when I get around to him as his hat does look a bit ridiculous in comparison with the size of his head. A helmet/crown definitely works wonders beyond his original attire. The robes painted ethereal is an interesting approach too. :)

Yea, I like the idea of his robes coalescing around him since his corporeal form is pure force of will. The head from the Necrosphinx was just too perfect a size fit for him that it was hard to pass up. Took the crown banding from his old helmet and just greenstuffed the circlet.

I have ton more pics taken, just need to upload them from camera, maybe by end of this weekend I will have everything that is painted uploaded.

Still working on the Black Coach conversion (that project was just in a box until last night). Here is a sneak peak of the WIP.

I don't want to bash anyone's BK, but for me since I play a large amount of them at one time (at least I did), I always wanted them to reflect that they are ever increasing their numbers when they find someone worthy of the kiss. So it makes sense that their kits are intermingled. The ritualistic changing of the colors and the removal of their old symbols is the unification I think.
