The Eternal Court of the Carmine Rose

  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
That Minotaur has the clasic style undead look. Hack holes and add bones. Early companies were hell for doing that. He reminds me of a resculpt of the old grenadier Minotaur.

Classics can be fun. I have a set of citadel undead horses around here somewhere. Kinda small now.

Here's some more classics: The Nightmare Legion

Pretty much finished, I need to add something flying from the banner pole and perhaps a few more highlights on the command group. I really wish I'd left a few more singly based, too, so perhaps another rank later if I can pick up some more of these guys at a reasonable price...

Here are the assembled Raging Heroes She Werewolves on their over-sized 40x60mm bases...

Not sure what to do colour-wise with these? My wolves are all black, or I could pick up the Shadow Grey or warm brown colours which are dotted around the army?

Finally, a couple of mates gave me this little lot to play with...

Pretty crude plastic toys (resin 40x40 bases for scale). The giant skeletons are of similar size to the guy with the scythe I painted previously, but the sculpting and poses are pretty poor. Might have a go at knocking some into usable shape though. And what to do with a pair of dinosaur skeletons???

Nice! The nightmare legion was the first " box" set I bought from citadel/games workshop back when they were about 15.00us. My command is still painted the green and red colors.

The she wolves do look awsome , but your right, bigger than I thought.

GW released those skeletons? I never would have guessed - times change I guess ;) Great work, those green accents add really much to the whole effect :)

Those werewolves, damn they are impressive! I didn't know they are so big! As for the colors - seeing as they have a lot of humanlike detail sculpted, I would try to steer away from that when painting, to make them more bestial. Black would be awesome I think - would make them dark, wild and disturbing - but grey should work too :)

And those dinosaur skeletons! That's a surprise! They would make for nice chariot beasts - or a palanquin carriers.

It's always a pleasure seeing your work, Shadespyre. Love that rose theme.
Those skeletons are bloody glorious!
The she-wolves are incredible! I just may have to grab some for my Kings of War list.

Lovely work these days - the latest skeleton unit is looking great. I like the 'shambling horde' appearance it has with those various minis in it. Cool stuff!

As for the wolves - maybe go for black or dark brown with flesh done in a slightly lighter tone. Black would be quite striking and brown second to that.

Thank you. I used more multi-bases in that unit, especially the 40mm square ones, which helps break up the ranks a little, and though I've made a lot of unit fillers this is the first unit I've really planned around them- obviously this is because the minis are expensive and I wanted to stretch 32 miniatures into a unit of 50. I think it's worked okay, though I would like to add a rank behind the sarcophagus if I can.

Just finished this lady...

Pretty happy with the facial expression. This isn't originally a vampire model but I hope she looks suitably evil. I went for a variation on my colours, I think a red or black dress and cream lace would have been nice too but I get bored of those colours. Also dressing like a classic vampire might be a giveaway if you're going to hang around taverns picking up victims?

Citadel C34 Death Elemental (1985)

Updated to Do List

Vampire Lady on Dragon
Vampire Lady on Winged Nightmare
1 x Mounted characters
3 x Foot Characters
4 x Huge Werewolves (counts as Crypt Horrors I think)
1 x surprise!

Now, my gaming friends have decided they want to play the Sigmar's Blood campaign over the holidays. I get to supply both forces (Vampire and Empire) which is both a bit of a pain and rather nice, because for once all the minis in play will be reasonably well painted!

Problem - the campaign uses a Mortis Engine, which I don't have. I could just sub in another model (Covern Throne or undead pachyderm or whatever) but I could try and throw together a Mortis Engine from spare parts. In a few days! Any ideas welcome (I have the spare bits from my CT build, and a female necromancer...)

WIP Mortis Engine so far...

Ingredients so far:

Coven Throne kit spares
Reaper Miniatures altar
Some metal steps (dunno)
Brass rod
Dark Elf Spears
Stone textured plasticard

I've got two of the ME Banshees to add to this; I think that's pretty much sorted.

I also made a quick chariot sized base

Now, to put the two together! I'm torn between a huge mass of brambles and a huge cloud of spirit-fog. I think the latter is easier, basically a huge mass of cottonwool balls!?

This is what I've thrown together over Christmas...

The cloud is made from cotton wool, sprayed with several coats of varnish and then you can paint it, after a fashion. Bits and bobs of "spirits" from my bits box, plus the tentacles which I've made from left over bits of greenstuff or milliput over the last couple of years. I didn't use the base I made because it's completely concealed under the cloud, so this is just a plastic chariot base. You might recognise the necromancer, I painted her ages ago but she was already magnetised for multiple bases so it was an easy route to go.

I think it'll do. It's not as big as the "proper" model, but I think it'll be big enough next to the Luminark which will be used in the same games. I might be tempted to redo it in future, maybe with a more suitable rider. Also, this model is not that sturdy (everything is glued to cotton wool!) so we'll have to see how it lasts two days of gaming...

Well the model survived the games, mostly because it didn't live beyond turn 2 of its appearances. Cannons and Level 4 Light Wizards are tough on Undead chariots...

We played the Sigmar's Blood campaign - nice concept, poor execution. The interlinked battle story is well done, but the army lists are poor and the games felt very skewed towards the Empire players. The climactic final battle was effectively over at the end of turn 2.

The highlight of the game was when one of the players stooped down to check a line of sight and got an eyeful of the lady necromancer's bottom! Eyebrows were certainly raised...

Distractions over, I have about 1 dozen models left to paint. Unless I decide to make some zombies... I'm calling that a future project, so I can do other things for a while.

Thanks - it didn't work out quite how I planned, but it did work out okay anyway. I think I learned things that might be useful for doing fire, smoke and explosions in the future.

More miniatures...

This one is Reaper's Pathfinder Cleric of Urgathoa, but with her original scythe replaced with the familiar rosy Empire Wizard version. Lost count of how many of those I've used now!

And this one is my Vampiress on Winged Nightmare - quite pleased with this, but it will need a bigger base for stability in games, I knocked it over a dozen times while painting it!

Mostly putting off taking on that Dragon at the moment! ;)

@Shadespyre Impressive basing, it's a shame she needs more stability as she looks great taking off of that base as she is. Maybe you can weight down the underside of her base?

Your Reaper cleric has turned out nicely too - I haven't seen her painted blonde much, it's a great colour scheme you've got there though and, as always, the red roses and vines work really well.

Thank you both. @Farmer7574 Out of around 30 female vamps and necros painted so far (including all the knights) probably 25 have black hair, there's no real "reason" for it except that in art vamps are always black haired or rarely white / silver haired. So it's nice to drop in some variations. I think she's the second blonde, and I already started painting another one ginger! Because why not? :)
