The Grenadier Giant looks great, I ordered one from Mirliton a few of weeks ago. Its a git too stick together but well worth it.

Thanks for the comments - can't wait to see how your giant turns out Chico.

A month since the last update!

Here are a few things I've done, starting with a second unit of Rose Maidens:

This unit incorporates a couple of gravestones and a 20x40 mm base to help it all rank up.

And here is a bonus miniature:

This is another Reaper miniature, purchased along with a Dark Elf sorceress by one of my local gamers. I swapped him for another Reaper Dark Elf which I had lying around unused. I like him as he continues the theme set by the Necromancer and Servant I've already done.

I really like your bases. Rose Maidens are still awesome. Reapers Bat swarms are great, nice model - not like the GW ones. And the skeleton servant is funny, I like him

Thank you all for the kind comments, positive feedback helps me paint and to keep my standards up

@Theerteen - no special technique on the gem, though that is possibly the most effective one I've painted. You can find the method easily on the internet, but basically...
- paint the gem black
- paint a dark shade (in this case Scab Red) in a crescent on the lower right hand side of the gem, always leaving some black showing. For a dark gem like this leave lots of black, for a bright gem leave much less.
- paint consecutively brighter shades (in this case Blood Red and then Blood Red with a little orange added) on top of the base colour, leaving some of the base colour showing. Continue until ending with just a small amount of the brightest shade. I usually just use 3 shades of colour, but you could use more, or blend them or whatever.
- finally, add a highlight white "gleam" on the black part of the gem.

The key to how the gem looks seems to be all in the position and shape of this "gleam", I really just hit lucky with how good this one looks! And obviously you can change where on the gem the colour and gleam are, as long as they are opposite ( I think the gleam is on the side of the gem which light is striking, but I haven't studied the theory closely). Hope that helps!

@Robtion - yes, there will be a Coven Throne, the model was the inspiration for making the whole army female in fact. I expect it will be based very much on the basic kit, so don't expect anything too unusual. I really need to work out how I will paint my ethereals before I start on it...

Most of the units from the book should end up being represented, at the moment I'm not sure of Crypt Horrors or the Mortis Engine, or what exactly I will use for Terrorgheists.

@Robtion - looking forward to seeing your mounted wight queen, as there is a lack of miniatures available for what seems like a very useful addition to an army.

The colours are from my skeleton regiment really, with gold and brighter steel added as befits a queen. The cloak is just Mechrite red with a Baal red wash, but the highlight colour is lightened with Zandri Dust not white. I like to use off-whites, it seems to give a softer more natural look. Most of the work on the shading was done by the sculptor!

@Redarmy - yeah, I still need to work on my highlighting, I seem to stop a couple of shades darker than "proper" painters ;) The lighting on my pics does tend to be a bit harsh, they are usually taken late at night under an anglepoise lamp and with flash.

Here's my next effort - the very first Vampire in my army. I've been putting this off for way too long, because of my ongoing struggle with painting faces, especially female ones. But here we go...

Thanks, the colours are based very much on the CMON colour scheme, which happens to suit my army down to the ground. Her skin is pale but deliberately alive - one of the few things in my undeveloped fluff so far is that the Vampires of the Eternal Court share the secrets of eternal YOUTH, not just eternal life. Who wants to spend eternity as a corpse??? :scared:

Nice work you have there! It's always nice to see a strong and appealing concept done with such consistency and executed well too! They are a little too colourfull for my tastes about the undead, but that's just my opinion ;] concept is strong and looks great!

The vampiress also looks great - I usually like my vampires paler but this one looks really good! I -love- the composition of black, skin colour and this particular shade of red.

Keep up with the good work and good luck with further painting! :)

Thanks everyone, I'm really glad you like my vampire. I'm not sure if she's my favourite model but definitely my best painting so far. Now I have to keep that up on all my other characters!

I've not got very much done this month, bits of progress made on several projects, the furthest along is my black coach:

Where's the coach? It was all built but then I had "an idea" and it's all back in pieces waiting for some bits to arrive. The base itself is an extended 120mm long because I was never happy with how it fitted on a standard chariot base.

But I did a bit of conversion work on the wraith driver too...

Hello! I'm back? Did you miss me??

5 or 6 weeks ago I decided to rip apart my black coach and start again. Now I can show you why. It's taken longer than expected to get around to finishing it (blame a holiday abroad, a couple of other projects and sheer laziness) but here it is...

But what can you peek at through the window?

Which is why the roof comes off...

Yes, this is what held up the project - I discovered this Sleeping Beauty model from Reaper Miniatures. Sometimes, it's like Reaper are making models especially for my project! Yes, she's not intended as a Vampire but she is asleep on a bed surrounded by roses, which is miles more in keeping with my theme than a coffin would be - even a coffin wrapped in rose vines as I envisaged it.

I had to rebuild the Coach with a steel floor so that I could use magnets (of course!) to hold Sleeping Beauty in place while still being removable. And reassemble the body with extra strength so that I could leave the roof unglued.

I hope you think she was worth the wait!?

Who is she? Well, as per the standard Black Coach standard fluff, she is a oomatose Vampire being carried to magic sources to help her rejuvenation. She just isn't a moldering pile of bones or a cloud of noxious gas in the meantime!

Was she injured in battle? Struck down with magic? Just really, really ancient? I guess we'll have to wait until someone writes some more fluff stuff to find out! :clown:

I love your female armored vamp <3 she looks like a proper warrior!

The use of the sleeping beauty miniature is also very clever and lovely. Great stuff!

Thanks for the comment everyone.

@Wight Lord - I've already done an "ordinary" Varghulf, he's a survivor from my old army which I re-used. The grave guard are going to be the previous edition metal ones, with rose shields and another themed banner. I might throw in some unit fillers but I can't convert everything!

@Shareya - I really like the way that Vampire is posed, she looks calm and competent rather than a manic monster. That's why she's the first vamp I painted from a choice of a dozen or more!
