Hey, thanks everyone. I think, Duke, that you would want your garden to be a bit greener than this one though!

A few different Vampire projects knocking around my table, here's one that is WIP:

A couple of classic Zombie Dragons. As you can see I have a method to raise the profile of the old Tom Meier dragon. Options remains as to basing these two as unit fillers or as monsters - are they big enough to be used as Terrorgheists? I think the Grenadier dragon will be getting a taller pile of grave dirt to make him more impressive either way.

Thanks, it's nice of you to say so.

Here are those bats (and their twigs) rebased in keeping with the new style of the army:

It's the same bases with the grass scraped off and the plastic accesories removed, then some broken plastic slabs and gravestones added, then a little extra PVA and sand to tidy them up. Perhaps not how I'd have done them from new, but I thought getting the twigs off the old bases would give a serious risk of damaging them.

I also added the extra plastic branch on the right hand tree, I think it works as a visual tie in with other parts of the army.

I've resisted the urge to add roses, partly to save on work but mainly because I don't think they would add much to the unit.

i love the basing, i guess the leaf are birch seed dried and dyed but can you please explain me how do you get such a smooth colour ?
I threw some leaves in a recipient and added colour, but in the end they got stiicky and messed up badly. plus they look too unreal!

@robtion - I think we have similar tastes to be honest. These are miniatures that I grew up with so they have a special nostalgia to me, so it makes me happy to get them onto a modern wargames table. I think I'm going to push on with the crypt for the Meier dragon and worry about the final base size later (in fact, I think I can make it variable with some trickery ;) ) I think the other one is going straight onto a 50mm monster base (with some height elevation of course).
@Nerevarine - thank you, every comment makes it easier to paint or build the next bit :)
@Emicrania - thanks, I'm so happy with how the basing came out, and it is really simple. As for the magical secrets of the leaves, you are correct that they are birch seeds. My amazing dyeing technique is... to buy them from someone who knows how to do it! Mine are from Antenocitis http://www.antenocitisworkshop.com/decorplus-leaf-litter.html and I have just ordered some brighter ones from Secret Weapon http://www.secretweaponminiatures.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=13&products_id=433 to try out.

Here's the Tom Meier Zombie Dragon, I think this is completed.

I went for green as this is the third colour in my army (after red and black) and I thought black would be a bit boring perhaps.

I'm pleased with how the crypt base came out in the end, it's made mostly from scrap materials and press mouldings. I even had chance to mess around with some different putty mixtures, so the repeated gravestones along the sides are made of different mixtures of Green Stuff, Milliput and Plasticine (based on the idea that plasticine is cheaper than the other two.)

I've put paint on three more Vampiresses, but they make me nervous still. I want to try and finish at least one more this month.

You have been busy. I love it! Colours are great and there is a nice contrast between the dragon and the base. Also like the subtle roses on the crypt, in keeping with your theme.

My only query is how you plan to use it as it seems to be on a chariot base?

Did someone say three vampiresses? I have images of Dracula's brides. Look forward to seeing them.

Can't believe I haven't commented on this plog before. You've got some great stuff here, and a very well executed theme.

The dragon looks great, love the eye in particular. It's a fanatic mini and you really did it justice. And is that Nurgle slime I spot in a few of his wounds?

@Reaper - thanks, glad you like it!
@robtion - you're very kind! The chariot base seems like the smallest I can use for a "counts as" Terrorgheist - yes, I know a TG comes on a bigger base, I will worry about that if I ever use the army competitively. Here's a secret: the crypt lifts off the pavement base so that in theory I can make different size bases for it. I've got an 80x40mm infantry unit filler base in progress.

The vampiresses aren't a trio as such, just the three I have prioritised to give my army a choice of characters. There will be 10 or more of them one day, so many great minis to paint.

@Mad 'At - Thanks! There's way too much good stuff on this forum to keep up with it all. Yes, some Nurgle slime deployed, not 100% sure I like it but it needed something bright to catch the eye I think.

Here's a little side project from my Empire army, where I have set myself the challenge of entering something in the monthly Painting Contest for a whole year...

This is renowned Vampire Hunter Dr Grabstat and his assistant Arnold Lunk... and a little photo story of their adventures!

These guys are both from the Reaper Bones range. The good doctor is slightly converted - I gave his spade a straight handle with some brass rod, cutting away the soft plastic, and added a dagger to his belt. Lunk has a replacement torch, a hammer at his belt, and the large wooden stake is cut down from a (rather wobbly) pitch fork. Just for fun I have used the same basing scheme as the vamps.

The soft Reaper plastic gives decent detail but their is an issue with weapons, I can see myself replacing a lot of bendy swords and spear shafts as I paint them up.

Great concepts and color choices. I have enjoyed looking at this plog. I do have one suggestion if I may. Take it how you will. In looking at your vampire ladies, I'm struck by how "alive" they look. I think they could benefit from a paler flesh tone and more shading to give them some depth in the flesh. Just my opinion as I lean more towards a grey flesh tone base and then highlight up with very pale flesh tone. I think this would stand out amazingly with your dark tones and red. Again, just a suggestion. Very nice work though.

Thanks for looking through my plog! The skin tone is deliberate, I'm going for "aristocratic pale" rather than "undead" - I want my lady vampires to be eternally young and beautiful. Also, it lets me work on painting "real" faces a bit which is a whole new skill for me. Depth is an issue, the Coven Throne vamps aren't as good as my armoured vamp, which is the best face I've painted by a country mile and is proving a nightmare to repeat, which is holding up my whole project at the moment as I have a lot of lovely ladies to paint. I'm starting to think that the sculpt of that mini is the key, not my painting of it!

Wow, that's the old Ral Partha dragon isn't it? I have one too from a long time ago. I really like everything I've seen here and can't wait to see more.

Now I have to go dig thru my old models boxes and see if I can find mine. (Get up, hang head and hopefully not a long journey to find.)

I hope you find it, it's a lovely old model which I'm really pleased to finally get painted.

And here is another one...

That's the Grenadier "Chaos" Dragon, plainly intended as an undead dragon, I don't know why they named it like that. I've continued with the idea of painting zombie dragons in green. The base colour is Orchide Shade, which when I lightened it for highlighting turns out to have quite a strong blue tone to it, hence the turquoise look of the finished dragon.

Wow :| That looks so much better painted. I really like the colours and the bits of red gore really stand out well. Fantastic highlighting and shading on the head in particular. That base is tops, really lifts the model to a whole other level.

The only thing I could possibly think of to make it look any better might be some osl on the red eye if you wanted a glowing look but it is almost perfect as is.

Perhaps you should run these dragons as terrorgheists in a double terrorgheist list so they see some play?

Yeah, I'm pleased with how good the old model looks, thanks. I hadn't really intended the eyes to look glowy, I just lazily painted them red out of long habit (anything evil has red eyes!)

I enjoyed doing those dragons, so I think I might roll on with some more fun things instead of letting difficult Vampiresses depress me. I have a slightly humorous unit filler / character in mind that I hope will raise a smile without looking out of place...

I found mine. I painted it sooo many years ago. Ah memories, I've learned so much about painting minis since those days (about 20 years ago I believe is when I got that model) so now I will have to strip it and repaint. I might post a pic of it as it sits right now. The other one I don't have but remember it, think my brother got it. Now the headache hits from trying to remember back then.
