But there's a hero i can't account for, since someone said hero level Mannfred was out.

In the beginning someone stated as a rumour he would be out but I'm pretty sure someone with the book already told us that he's still in, don't take my word for it though...

Either way, I'm a little disappointed that they didn't put in special characters for the different bloodlines, I really wanted a blood dragon or a necrarch... But still, at least we get Krell and Kemmler back :vampire3:

Hello, back from work but back again in under 7 hours :(

However...

Vlad, Mannfred, Heinrich, Vamp Lord, Necro lord & Strigoi

Mannfred (again), Krell, Konrad, Issabella, Necro, Vamp, Wight, Wraith & Banshee.

Zombies, Skellies, Ghoulies & Wolves

Corpse Cart, Grave Guard, Blacknights, Crypt horrors, Fell bats, Batswarms, Spirit hosts, Hexwraiths, Vargheists.

Varghulf, Bloodknights, Cairn Wraiths, Black Coach, Terrorgheist & Mortis Engine.

And now a couple of the more interesting things...

There is no such thing as Necromancy spells, so no more repeated casting of Nehek by the same caster during 1 magic phase.

Only units within 12" of the general may march, unless they have the vampiric rule. However if something with the vampiric rule joins a unit that is over 12" from the general... they cannot march!

If the general dies then all the units take the usual crumble tests... However if there is another magic user within the army, who knows spells from the lore of vampires, then the crumbling stops!!! SO basically you take one round of tests at the end of the phase in which the genereal dies. The, as long as you have another magic user using vamp spells, the crumbling stops.

And finally 1 last thing... but what to choose from A. Ressurrecting Fallen Warriors or B. Bat Swarms...

SO Bat Swarms may be the new cool thing the kids want! The rule "Cloud of Horror" An enemy unit in base contact with one or more bat swarms has the "Always Strikes Last" special rule! Neat huh? All for the princely sum of the points cost of the Armour of Fortune. I simply can't wait to get my hands on some of the new sculpts... hang on, they're exactly the same as before! EVEN BETTER!!!

Mua ha ha...

Time for bed me thinks. Will be back from work around 10:00 tomorrow morning. Might give a bit more then.

Ok, one last thing before bed...

You'll be pleased to hear that Bat Swarm units size is 2+. SO, potentially, you could have a really massive Swarm of Bats!!! But which shop has a near limitless supply of Bat Swarms... Any GW of course! I know what I'm off to buy tomorrow

Right off to bed. I'm taking my Mortis Engine and my Lore of Vampires magic cards with me!

I think they made them amazing so they can sell overpriced Finecast models. That's just my guess.

About the last thing I expected from the new book was for GW to finally give bat swarms some kind of synergetic or otherwise useful ability. I'm definitely gonna give them some good tries now. Thanks Munkey. :)

They are the only bloodline with named characters, everything else is do it yourself builds and a couple necromancers.....

What about Gashnag,The Red duke, the Fiend of Krudenwald or Neferata herself amongst others? What about Abhorash?

HI Everyone,

Nope no other special characters other than the ones in the list before...

Next juicey bit?

So what units do we think can be made larger than their starting size? Well with no extra upgrades to either Vamps or Necro's, only zombie units can be increased in size(& very easily I might add).

Buy the "Master of the Dead" power for 1 Necromancer Lord or 1 Necromancer (per army, so only 1 in total!) and that 1 model can raise Skeleton units above their starting size.

Buy the "Summon Creatures of the Night" power for a vampire and he can increase the unit size of the following... Dire Wolves, Fell Bats and... BATS SWARMS!

Any other units cannot be raised to a larger size. Did anyone notice Ghouls were missing there? Yup, sorry folks, no raising units of 10 Ghouls into units of 40! A trick I used to use. You can, of course, replace casualties in every kind of unit and restore wounds.

What next? Perhapes a list of all magic items and vampiric powers?

Vampiric powers!
[/renfield-mode]Give us more Master, you promised us![/renfield-mode]

Definitely going for summon creatures seeing what bat swarms can do :perv:

I just so happen to have the page open on a certain mad bugger called Konrad. Let me see now...

Pretty much the same as before. Red Fury, Hatred, The hunger, One Bat Short of a Belfry, The Sword of Waldenhof. All for a slight increase in points, around the price of an old periapt was.

Bat swarms, wolves Zombies and Grave Guard.
So many nice and "true" Carstein Lists come to mind... :)
Happy days :)

Helm? Gone. Hoff? Gone. Blood Drinker? Vlad only, and even then a shadow of its former self (before: cause four wounds? get four wounds back, healing your unit if you're already full. Now: cause four wounds? 50% chance of getting just one wound back, does not heal your unit at all).

There's still some ok items in the list, but nothing like the best items (some would say crutches) of the previous book.

MAGIC ITEMS
- Flag of the Blood Keep (Blood Knights only): 4+ ward vs ranged attacks
- Banner of the Barrows (all wights in unit get +1hit)
- Screaming Banner (enemies test fear on 3D6, discarding lowest)
- Scabscrath (frenzy, flaming attacks, devastating charge, Deathly Shriek (Terrorgheist-like attack), If you don't kill a model in close combat during the game, the wearer is removed as a casualty at the end of the game
- Nightshroud (+1 AS, all [enemy?] models in basecontact get ASL & no bonuses to their strength from magical or mundane weapons - can be combined with other armor)
- Black Periapt (stores 2 dice)
- Staff of Flaming Death (Bound Spell 3+, similar to Flame Cage)
- Book of Arkhan (Bound Spell 3+, casts Vanhel's Dance Macabre, doesn't burn out)
- Cursed Book (sacrifice D3 power dice to get off a random Hex spell of six (Miasma, Withering, Soulblight, Doom and Darkness, some Heavens spell and something else) as a bound with the minimal complexity)
- Staff of Damnation (Bound Spell 4+, all models in 6 inches (inc. mounts) get +1 attack untill next magic phase)

plus a bunch of stuff on the special characters.

I might have missed this elsewhere, but I am wondering if hero level characters can take the black periapt and master of the black arts power?
