The New book

  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
Just read through the book and it's great. Well it IS nerfed but very much in line with the other new books. If they continue this trend we will be fine.

Also got Isabella and she is IMO the most beautiful female model GW has made to date. For those also going for the model look closely at her chin. No not a chin fetish!
I've seen all the models had the most issues with bubbles and such on there.

Hex wraiths...eh not too sure about them. They do their run through damage based on number of models so I'd field them at least in a unit of ten but that will cost. They are good but need to be used in synergy. On their own they are too fragile IMO

Some great new toys and pleasantly surprised by our magic items which I thought were a lot worse. I haven't been this happy with a new release for a long time.

Initially, I heard Corpse Cart got better and was excited that it is a chariot now. Then I found out that the movement hasn't changed.

Save movement... chariot.... can't march...

Any suggestions? Otherwise we're going to have some difficulty running a CORPSE CART. Maybe we have to use Danse Macbre in order to keep up with infantry marching. :(

Love the recover wounds on a 6 rule, trust Phil Kelly to throw in a characterful rule like that... xD
Yeah, I'm glad he listened to me ;) Unfortunately it's a weak bone we're thrown now that we can't heal characters with magic. Hello Tomb Kings.

How about using the Lore Attribute for it? Cast IoN on a friendly unit or Gaze of Nagash on the enemy and *puff* my hero's feeling all better already. If my vampires can suck a few back with their hunger in the CC phase, I'm free to heal my wraiths, necros or wight kings.

I believe this is really great as it frees up time to do something else in the magic phase too. I think I'll usually take someone with the Lore of Death as well, as healing just got a lot easier.

He meant that hexwraiths do similar damage in a similar way, whilst being far, far more controllable than actual fanatics. I THINK so anyway...

Ah gotcha. Thanks.

Yup this is what I meant. Haven't made it thru the entire book yet but still like what I have seen. The only thing I wonder about so far is that spirit hosts are swarms now, hmmm?

Well overall where as I think we have lost allot of character for how to lead and customize the characters in your army we have gained it back in units and what they can do even without the ability to run neigh on unkillable deathstars.

Very happy with the Bat swarms atm, it apears they are the new black but Hex Wraiths are a certain must take in any army now.

Hi guys, just signed up - been into Undead since 4th ed but this is my first try at them recently.

With regards to the magic, it seems like now newly raised units give no VPs. Is that your guys' take as well?

I'm going to build a Wight/Necromancer build with no vamps or ghouls, led by Kemmler and Krell. Looking forward to participating in these forums more :)

Welcome Timothias. Hope you enjoy this forum as much as I do. Don't quote me on this but I believe you are right from what I've read, no VP's for raised units. Enjoy

Quote me on it: raised units do not give away Victory Points under any circumstances (p60, col. 2, 'Raise Dead', middle of the last paragraph).

In the old 7th edition book they used to give away 50 points.
In the new 8th edition one they give away none.

Wait what?
This is awesome!! I'm gonna heve to get some more zombies after all.

Dusting off those 60 Zombies and those 8 Bat swarm bases...
It may sound odd but it is the first time in about 9 years that I feel that the Vampire Army is actually starting to make sense/feel right. Little to none "useless" things in the book, synergy between units and a decent variety to make strong thematic lists...
Well that didnt take them long XD.

Von Carstein list with GG, skellies, zombies, bats, Wolves, Vargheists and coach...oh the sexiness

Hey guys, play alot of both undead armies, dont have the new VC book yet (been in nehekara for a while now) and I have a quick question for you VC loving guys.

On the TK forum there is a never ending mangina fest about how terrible the tomb kigns are yada yada.

With the release of your book it has not gotten any better, to say the least its positivly the best time to buy mangasil stock because there is going to be alot of it sold on that forum.

SO I put this question to you: DO you think the new VC book blows the TKs out of the water? Are they fairly competetive (against each other)?

Depends on what scale you're measuring.

In terms of overall competitive effectiveness? I don't think so. Tomb Kings does have some hard builds, after all, more then I'm really seeing for vamps now. Of course, I'm not a good judge of things just from a read through.

But in terms of the army book overall? In terms of all the options having some point to them, and mostly able to do what they're supposed to do, and mostly being at least somewhat reasonably priced for their contribution? And not having weaknesses exactly where their strengths are supposed to be?

Yeah, the vamp counts book has a lot fewer counterintuitive or counterproductive rules. It doesn't have anything like, say Apophas, where you look at him and wonder what the designer throught he was even supposed to do in the first place, let alone why he thought that was a reasonable points cost for him. There's nothing like the Necrotect special character, whos fluff and abilities are all about taking a construct heavy list, but whos special rules run counter to that and actually work better if you field him with less constructs then usual. Nothing like the 'It came from below' deep strike thing that's supposed to be an advantage but generally is just a drawback that you wish you didn't have to use. And while I do think ghouls are a bit overpriced in the new vamps book, they're nothing like as bad as ushabti in that regard.

So basically, while I think the two books are relatively evenly matched in terms of competitive external balance, possibly even slightly lower for vamp counts, particularly due to the varied TK core options, in terms of internal balance the vamp counts book does indeed blow the tomb kings book out of the water. At least, that's my initial assessment. As I said earlier, I'm not the best at judging such things from reading alone.

I've tried to play with the current tomb kings book and I found it to be quite frustrating. Like the book was fighting me every step of the way, or like the designer was afraid I might have too much fun if they didn't keep putting obstacles in my way. The vamp counts book has weaknesses, sure - but they're weaknesses I anticipated when I signed up, and the units seem generally good at what they want to do. I feel like the book's working with me, rather then against me, if that makes any sense.

Malisteen a bud of mine who also plays TK completely agrees with you. He also says it works counterintuitive.

This weekend I will be playing a few battles against and with him in a team-up. Will definitely be interesting to see what happens.

So far the only thing I have come acrossed(in my game yesterday) is that only the general within 12" allows march moves, vampires don't anymore. Other then that I am quite happy with the book but don't understand the 10 pts for ghouls other then they, GW, wants us to use more zombies and skelies.

Only about a model in the army to improve bone above the initial size, but the shame is not so bad Unfortunately, they have a Necromancer so more just write down a new deal to change it now IMMA again. However , we will only destroy the fun, when you own a copy of your dirty gloves.
