Thanks for the kind words guys, I'm glad the ghouls turned out so well! Fingers crossed for the rest of the army :D

A small update, and a question, here is my attempt to turn a dragon prince into a blood knight using my bits box... does this look vampire-y enough? Hopefully the paint job will help but initial thoughts anyone?

Wow, this is really nice! I usually don't like Dragon Princes as BKs, but this one is promising - bonus points for not using the elven head ;) I think that the lance and shield really makes it better. As for the head - it's something different, but definitely not bad. Original Bram Stoker's Dracula had thick moustache, and imperials turned vampires probably don't lose their facial hair ^^' And I always imagined Jerek von Carstein from Vampire Wars trilogy with great beard, so it should be fine - and as I said - this is really promising and I'm eager how it'll look painted, as I think it will enchance it greatly.

The only think I don't really like is the helmet - it looks very dull compared to the rest of the model. Maybe you'll be able to add some ornamentation, some bat wings or whatnot from DP or GG sets? But that's a minor thing - this guy still looks great.

You could greenstuff spike(s)/any other design on the helmet. You could even give it a glow effect, if you really wanted it to stand out!

It's amazing, by the way. :)

Thanks for the feedback all :) I agree that the helmet needs some work. I have some spare GG heads so will see what I can cut from them to finish it off.

I'm pretty happy with how the head looks - didn't want an elf head as vampires were human, not elves! That's why i thought Empire heads work work the best... I've got a few more to do the other 4 as well. Hopefully they'll all work out well too.

I've started painting a corpse cart but after that I'm going to get this guy painted, still not sure whether to go blue to match my army or red as that's the more traditional colour

Lookin' good mate!

I really like the blue Ghouls, they look very good. Really brings out the feeling of frozen skin...

Keep it up!

Been a while since my last update - I've added some horns to my blood knight (no photo yet sorry) and started work on the rest of the unit. But my main update for today is my finished Corpse Cart. Love this model but it was a bit of a pain to put together, and I obviously did something wrong as I had to build up the base with rocks for the zombies feet to touch the floor!

Not quite sure what happened to photos, but there seems to be some glare. Maybe due to the lamp I'm using... anyway here they are:

I've also painted up a Banshee, not necessairly something that I'll include that often in my finished army but I picked up this model for 99p on eBay and it gave me something to practice an ethereal effect on. What do you think? I'm not sure if it's a bit green, when the resy of my army is more blue? Any hints on how to get a good blue ethereal effect using GW paints would be most welcome!

Currently working on my Blood Knights, and some Grave Guard, so hope to get some of them finished by end of January. My awesome wife also bought my the Coven Throne/Mortis Engine kit for Christmas so need to decide how to build that! Think I might use it as a reward for finishing the Skeletons when I get around to them :)

Good job with the cart ;) I just love those verdigris accents here and there - they really reinforce the blue theme of the army

Regarding the banshee - I like her very much, she surely looks etheral and has some kind of "marine" feel to her. But I understand your concern about her color. Maybe highlighting her with white and using some light Guilliman Blue and then maybe adding some more of it into the recesses would work? I don't really have much experience with GW glazes, but if they work as glaze should work it'll be good. Also - in my opinion some green hue should stay - let her be blue, but also a little green - that would differentiate her as a ethereal amongst other units - but well, I like green etherals so maybe I'm a little biased ^^'

Good luck with other things and especially with the coven throne/mortis engine! ;)

@Borgnine - Thanks :) glad you like it! With the Banshee I've already used Guilliman Blue once but will try another layer, or maybe a white highlight followed by another glaze. Want to get my ethereal effect right before I tackle the Hexies or the Mortis Engine!

For the time being here is a WIP shot of my Blood Knights; I still need to finish GSing some gaps and I'm waiting for a banner which I've ordered from a bitz site (from the Chaos Warrior set) but overall I'm pretty happy with how these have turned out.

I wanted to go for Empire heads as by my thinking these vampires were once Empire knights, and the only other option I could think of were Ghoul heads but they look a bit too feral for the result I was looking for.

Sorry about the quality of the photo - I seem to keep getting glare from the lamp which didn't used to happen! Not sure what I'm doing differently but will try sort it out next time.

Now I need to decide whether to paint them in a traditional red/black scheme - or go for something more blue to keep them more in line with the rest of the army.

Wow, I'd never think that I'd so much like Dragon Princes conversion! Awesome! I'm waiting to see them painted.

Also - I vote for the blue. I think consistency would look good and also I'm eager to see something unordinary like blue Blood Knights.

And some questions - I assume that helmed heads are imperial. But those without helmets - from what sets are those?

Good luck with further work!

Good job with the dragon prince conversion, they look very vampiry, which is my biggest complaint about those conversions usually, that they don't look vampiry enough. Well done, can't wait to see them with paint!

Thanks both. I was a bit concerned they might look too much lives elves, so glad they turned out well!

@Borgnine - The heads are (from the left) Empire Greatsword with horns from Dragon Prince set, High Elf Shadow Warrior champion, Empire general from the Griffon set, Empire Greatsword with wings from a GG head, and the last one is again from the Empire Greatsword set.

Hopefully get started on painting them over the next couple of weeks.

Great work on the CC, I know how much of a pain they can be to paint all the bodies well.

Nick choice as well on the heads of the Blood Knights, not too keen on the dragon prince models but its a fresh take on the helmets and faces and in my eyes adds allot more chracter to the models.

Thanks for the positive feedback - always encouraging to know that my painting's not that bad! Some of the stuff on these forums is just amazing :)

iAnyway, It's been a slow month so far, between work and being ill I haven't got a great deal done but have managed to make a start on my Blood Knights. Here is my progress on the first one - pretty much just the base to do now I think. This is also my first attempt at painting a clean white colour - which I found very tricky... so all comments and advice much appreciated!

I really love the colour combination! Dark blue with steel and black looks really cool and hard. Fits your winter theme perfectly, and while I was not sure about the white horse at first, I can imagine it looks appropriate and cool when in a unit. Sorry that I have no tips for painting white, I'd like to steal me some ideas if you get suggestions here ;)

Wow! Really chilly and elite looking ;] He looks very good and bonus points for something new in the Blood Knights color department  I'm not sure about the horse, I'd personally like a black one more, but I guess this helps adding some flavour into the scheme ;)

EDIT: Oh, and I must say that you indeed managed to make blue dragon princes that are not dragon princes :)

Thanks all, glad you like the colour scheme (with the exception of the horse!) I wanted black armour but thought the blue highlights would help make them look colder.

For the horse, I did paint it black originally but felt that while the model did look suitably dark it lacked contrast... then I remembered Death's horse Binky (in the Discworld books) who is white so went with that :) I see what you mean about it looking a bit unusual though, but hoping when the unit is finished it will look cool.

If it doesn't I may have to go back and try them all black but hoping it won't come to that.

I've started on the second one now, but it's actually quite time consuming doing all the edges blue!!

Hey Kutslo a really nice blood knight you have there! I really really like the colouring and especially the face looks superb!Looking forward to seeing more ;)

Wow, it's been a fair while since I updated this! That's the problem when real life gets in the way... well since my last post I've managed a grand total of.... TWO Blood Knights, giving me a unit of 3 so far!

The edge highlighting on these is proving to be a real pain so glad I've not got many left to do :)

Also, just to show that I am still trying here's my WIP on the standard bearer and a few Grave Guard.
