Good to see some undead from you! Great oldschool look, like always :) That skullhead is an interesting miniature and I like how menacing the robed one looks

Been a while, but it's Deadcember once again - the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

Back a while ago, I got a couple of triceratops toys in a package from Shadespyre. With just a bit of surgery, I think I've turned one of them in to a decent skeletal owlbear.

pixlr.jpg

Onto Deadcember itself... I started with some reinforcements/summon-fodder for Maurice Delamorte. I found 8 more oldschool skeletons without skulls -- but that was remedied by my dwindling stash of skulls from Secret Weapon -- which look great on these old plastics!

IMG_20181130_204506.jpg

The total (so far... unless more of the old plastics fall into my possession.)

IMG_20181130_204506.jpg

My small artillery battery, oldschool models from Citadel and Grenadier.

IMG_20181204_215821.jpg

And lastly (for now) some non-human skeletons and one of my favorite skeletal heroes.

@ZeroTwentythree Nice to see you back. Definitely paint more of those bog corpses - really nice work - their faces are freaky! I like those old school skellies too, nice seeing them painted up in black.

Beautiful work you've been doing lately, keep at it!

Thanks!

Painted a few more for Deadcember. One more dead thing I'd like to paint by the end of the 'cember.

I was travelling for work this week. Got into San Antonio airport around midnight, everything was closed & dark, turned the corner and war greeted by a Curtiss Jenny just hanging around.

Had a couple hours before my flight home, so got a chance to visit the Alamo for the first time.

Painted I painted some wheels for the undead. Crewed with Screamer because he had a look that seemed like he would most enjoy it. My last goal for Deadcember is to paint the remaining champions from the set (Reaper, Hellblade, and Longhorn.) Not sure I'll paint Morbius the liche, as I have no use for him and have had a hell of a time stripping the paint off that mini.

Thank you!

Not done yet. Stayed up to stupid o'clock Saturday night drunkenly painting these last two. At least now I have the satisfaction of having the full set of minis from the Skeleton War Machines box painted now that I've completed Morbius (on the right.)

I still have a bunch of bog corpses to paint, but needed five more right away for (hopefully) doing some gaming in the near future. They're so easy to paint I should just sit down and finish the rest. 35 more unpainted. Have a total of 50.

@ZeroTwentythree Nice war machines and hats off to you for getting all those done in December - I think you got more done in that month than I did for the year!

I use the same minis for zombies in my VC army, it's true that they're nice and easy to paint - get them done!

I have been absent... yet arise again! Or so it seems. Wow. I missed two years of undead. Unfortunately my undead painting has been reserved for the month of Deadcember the past two years. It's sort of stupid and something I want to correct for 2021. At any rate, here's a bit of catching up....

First off, I did some gaming. But between my limited availability (the dead of night) and our current pandemic, I's been solo gaming using (mostly) Sellswords & Spellslingers "The Necromancers Tower" scenario gave me a change to use some of the skeletons on the battlefield... ZeroTwentythree: Death of a Necromancer

I had a fun run of a campaign -- although sometimes done wrong. I'm working on my own small narrative campaign, featuring the undead as the antagonist. Or protagonist, depending on your point of view!

So on to the pics... what have I been painting the past two years? Wait... make it three years. I apparently didn't finish 2018's posts...

Like this:

IMG_20181224_103324.jpg

which lead to the almost wrap-up for 2018...

IMG_20181229_084635.jpg

....but then finished these on New Year's Eve...

IMG_20181230_195628_448.jpg

...and a few more in the following months of 2019...

IMG_20190202_134633_449.jpg

IMG_20190401_221947.jpg

Then I pulled out all of the "undeadish" (which are sort of my substitute for zombies) for a test of my new table & lights: ZeroTwentythree: Undeadish Glamour Shot (testing new lighting)

In 2019 I sot of slacked off. I did some big figure, but didn't manage to work on the rank & file. I mostly painted skeletal monsters from the most recent (at that time) Reaper Bones KS. Like these...

IMG_20191225_193513.jpg

But the thing about that dragon is that I left the magnetized 20mmx20mm space for the gravestone so I could swap it out for one of the best undead figures I've got...

Wow, some of this stuff is beyond vintage and enters historical territory.

Anyway, undead Lemmy is officially my "Model of the Year". xD

Hey! I got a few notifications from the forum recently and finally getting around to coming back for a visit & update. Work & (un)life have been busy, not much gaming lately but a bit of painting since the last update. So I'll start with those pics.

I did manage to finish the skeletal cavalry for the mercenary necromancer, Maurice Delemorte (aka Mo' Death) back in Deadcember 2020... right at the last day of the month/year!

IMG_20201231_170242_924.jpg

I also finished one last skeleton a few days after the new year. He lagged behind, no doubt, due to that slower movement rate of (skeletal) dwarfs....

PXL_20210103_042833317.jpg

A Reaper Bones figure from one of their Kickstarters. Not sure how much I actually like the figure, because most of the equipment as well as the beard are pretty well intact after the flesh is all gone. Maybe he was a recent casualty and the bugs at teh flesh but the equipment is in good condition (note the lack of my usual rust painting)? Whatever is going on, I think it's a nice sculpt and a shame not to paint.

Next up, I had been looking at the Northstar metal skeletons as a good addition to some of my oldschool skellies and finally bought a pack. Painted the first two and took a comparison. They are the two in the middle, the others are old figures from Citadel, Marauder, and Grenadier. I painted some more, but don't seem to have published pics on my site. I should

PXL_20210202_033459615.jpg

Followed up by a few more....

sk4376897846398.jpg

Somewhere along the lines I painted a plastic skeleton kitbash...

sk12412414.jpg

And somewhere along the lines I got this idea for two priests/avators/whatever to set up as opponents for a Life & Death themed RPG or campaign....

The first half of 2021 has been mostly occupied by painting retro-40k figures - Filthy Eldar Pirates, mostly. But also some very outside the 40k canon meat-hating robots. So my mind has wandered into future undead... I'd like to get a second liche from those last two pics to paint and base in a manner that matches my sci-fi figures. Who's to say he didn't survive for millennia and raise an army of Astro Zombies... Probably requires a second Undead Lemmy too. ;) OK, so still in the conceptual stages of planning.

However, I have come up with yet another undead side-project idea for fantasy gaming. Instead of WFB's Vampire Coast, I'm thinking of something more indigenous and have bought some bits to put together a test batch of figures....

1621202879494.jpg

1621203035365.jpg

1621202913535.jpg

I've loved some of the Oldhammer "New World" WFB projects I've seen, based on really old scenarios & campaigns.... Amazons vs. Slann vs. Norse, etc. But since I've reworked the Old World for my own purposes, I started thinking about how I might do my own take on the Old World meets the New World. So... this is what I've got planned for the second half of 2021.... should I survive work and family stuff and be able to sit down and paint.

2021 has been a bit slow. I have only now got around to painting my first project for the New World undead idea above. But it's Deadcember, so maybe that's how it was meant to be. Not my best painting, but it's OK-ish. If I can find the patience to assemble the remaining five skeletons on the sprue I will paint them and the big bad guy for Deadcember and plan to develop the project further.

Other recent undead painting includes some Reaper Bones wraiths with most of the bendy weapons replaced.

ZBIV7h4OOm4YxY5bv7mutFaDefy9k9KfT10QHytVcysDA=s800.jpg

A little off topic, but related and undead are some Astro-Zombies for a slowly developing plan to play some sci-fi skirmishes.

Lastly, I have been participating in the Old World Army Challenge the last few years. The fifth challenge is set to start in January 2022 and I will be painting undead this time around. You can see plans and some photos in my Introduction Post on the OWAC site. It is tradition to present the organizer with a painted figure, preferrably somehow related to the army you are painting, aka the Overlord Offering. His favorite color is pink. This is my contribution. :)

I have failed to maintain updates as I thought I would. I've been working on what has turned into an unconventional undead detachment for the 2022 Old World Army Challenge. Not sure how much sense it will make without the commentary, nor how much sense it makes WITH the commentary. But that's available at the OWAC site: The Old World Army Challenge . January through March photo dump below:

That's one unique and colorful looking army, I love it!
From the lively bases to the Rainbow Unicorn and Flamingo mounts...just exquisite. 😁
Also nice looking blends all around, and bonus points for the Donovan reference. 😉
