okay i need some help i keep loosing to Tombkings, not by a bomb load so i just need something to tip the scales in my direction, the main problem is his units of skelles, he has a unit or two of 50 skelles with a tomb king in each making them WS 6 meaning im hitting on 5s, and then he has 2 catapults and a CoS, alon with 2 level 5s one TK lore an hte other darkness, his main tactic is to:
cast doom and darkness lowering my LD y two so when he hits me with his catapults there is more chance i will run because i am at -3 or 4 ( i cant remember how much D+D lowers you LD by, and lower my S+T of ogres to a measly 3... making my men as bad as elves and with lower I, so any tactics to help me either, kill the catapults, kill the casket or plow through the skelles (this game with a unit of mournfags x4, a unit of 8 iron guts and a butcher, 3 gorgers and a firebelly i basically killed 80% of it and i charged on the 2nd turn and the games lasted 4 turns. so any tips,
(note this game i took 4 maneaters with the poison and sniper rules and each has a brace of pistols i take an avrage of 2-3 wounds per turn on the hyro,, hira,,, highest level caster and he just regains them all back in the magic phase?)

so can you point me in the right direction???
any "constructive" criticism will be happily accepted

Hey there
I don't know much about the new Ogres yet but I know the ONLY way TK's can get wounds back on their characters is by using the Spear of Antharak and even then, only the wielder can heal himself and it's by causing wounds in combat.
Also, he has two level 5's? I know the special character Arkhan The Black is level 5 because of an item but I don't believe they can have a second one. If he has a Heirotitan, they buff a caster's level by D3 whenever they cast a spell within 12" of it. Maybe that's what is boosting their level?
Something doesn't sound right.

whoopsie i meant two level 4s  my mistake, and there augment spells also heals nearby unit(s) by d6+1 models thank to there lore attribute.

The attribute heals units through augments yes, but it says in their army book that characters cannot be healed. Only the Spear/Blade of Antharak can do so and it's only for the wielder and only when they cause wounds in CC.

I think that should be D3+1 models (or wounds). Maybe there is some item which modifies this though. I'm not sure.

Ogres have WS 3 if I am not mistaking, so why are you hitting on 5+?
Ws 3 vs. Ws 6 is still a 4+ to hit... That's a pretty nice edge right there.

As long as you get into CC quickly (round 2..), you shouldn't be to vulnerable to a -3 to -4 LD test as a dispel scroll can protect you in one round, and if you keep your units close to your general/BSB as well, you really shouldn't be panicking that often.

Do you have the new "flintstone" cannon model? Target his catapults first, then use Grapeshot to target any large skeleton units that you don't charge immediatly for some reason.

Yethees have the Ambush rule don't they? Nice for taking out war machines and such...

i used gorgers to ambush them last round but the problem is there on;y str 5 so they need 6s to wound the catapults and vs the CoS he cant wound it! so need for either my iron guts to get there or my ironblaster. (its toughness ten) and i am planning to use the ironblaster, and how am i meant to get some power back in the magic phase because he has two level 4s and a casket meaning 2d6+d3 PD and two channels meaning he nearly always has like 5-6 dice more than me. i normally take a slaughtermaster with level 4 and an ironfist in 1500 games but that means i will be doing vary little apart from increasing strength, toughness and giving them regen.

When you attack a warmachine in CC, you use the stats of the crew. The Gorgers should gobble up those foul, undead things....whoa, what am I saying...?

(ahem)

Could you perhaps let us know what's in his list? If he's bringing 2 kings and 2 level 4's I wonder how he's fitting them all in.

it was a 2k army and he had(has)
38 spear-men with a tombking that has a 3+ and Armour and a 2+ ward to fire attacks, and a necrotect.

another of the same thing, but no necrotect but a level 4 caster with lore of darkness

two screaming skull catapults with enemy heads,

a unit of... wither 28 or 38 bowmen with his highest level mage, and a necrotect
and a casket of souls

oh and two unit of 4 chariots, ((they were easy to kill 4 mournfags and a unit of 4 lead belchers killed one each)he failed his charges on my LB twice)
i think that's it more might come to me later.

Unless he was using a tomb prince, he had to many points in his lord choices. The combined point total of all of them is 590 points, and that's without upgrades. In a 2k list, he's only allowed 500 points max.

Also, I added up everything in his list, and it comes out to 1997 points...that's with no special items for any character, no upgrades for any unit, and only a unit of 28 bowmen.

I was telling my friend who plays tomb kings about a similar list, and we couldn't find an efficient way of making it work in games smaller then 2.5k.

hmm i know he had a banner and he used calculator... hmmm it might have been a prince, i will look now...

note: i looked and he defiantly said his WS is 6 therefore it must have been a tomb king.

I play tomb kings and I see no way to pull a list like this off. I could just be overlooking something. there is no item that augments it to d6+1. The banner of the undying legion heals d6+2 but nothing increases the general res total. He has to be doing something wrong.

it sounds like there are some problems with your opponents point total, but with that being said it sounds like his blocks with the Kings/Princes in them don't have champions, so my advice to you is use a buff ogre to issue a challenge, if he accepts then tilt the odds in your favor by taking a magic item that compensates for the TK's power (tenderizer maybe) , if he REFUSES the challenge (most people are afraid of going toe to toe with an ogre you still benefit because his hero is going to the back of the line.

The dude's bad math aside, I played a stout TK army recently and managed to beat the guy playing it for the first time in ten years. Terrorgheist, man. Scream his pretty little sphinxes and heirotitan into the dirt. That and a Horde of 60 Ghouls getting a Danse charge on his big scary chariot unit without the Tomb King in it. After those four units went down, my all-Caster lord/hero choices wrapped him up and sent him home. To summarize: out magic him, Terrorgheist screaming makes sphinxes croak, and a big ol' block of Ghouls worked for me. Supplement warmachine hunting for your guy's list and have fun.
