Ulrik Von Lichenstien's Horde

  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
Well it's been a while since I posted anything but got the paints out last night and started again so nearly finished my ghoul unit. Have a look and comments welcome. There will be an even spread of purple green and blue ghouls in the finished unit and only one filler. Had to borrow the other one from the Skeletons for photo purposes and tournament play.

Well with the exception of basing the blue ghouls that's the unit finished. Will eventually paint a ghast or a ghoul king but for core purposes that's me done for now. 50 zombies still to paint but think I'm going to attempt my first vampire next. Wish me luck ;-)

All comments welcome:

So I've got the fever for painting back again and have even been to a couple of tournaments now, although still to field a fully painted army. Currently working on another 14 skeletons the command group of which you can see below and then going to make a start to some characters.

Below is the latest progress and an overview of my army to date:

Skellies are looking awesome. Those renedra gravestones are great for the price. And I can't wait to see your Casket done up, I'm still working on mine between school work.

Everyone is making their own casket of souls and I think I really want one! haha I love your ghouls they are colorful and pop from the rest of the army :) I do my spirits basically the same way its; effective and looks cool. My only concern is you "spirit hosts" I mean one on each base is kinda fluffing it out a little too much maybe?

The skellie unit looks really solid.
I have that same casket, hehe. It's a great model.
Your ghosts all look great although I'd consider adding something to the spirit host bases.

Great work! :-)

Thinking flog the spirit hosts and get just paint the new ones I bought for making the casket as the old ones do look a little dated.

Does anyone have tips for painting a Wight kings blade, been trying out on old models to try and get a magical look to it but can't seem to figure out a good colour scheme.

@Zacharias Ah I can't for the life of me remember where I recently saw an answer to a similar question, but someone recommended going for something like:

Basecoat Incubi Darkness / Highlight Kabalite Green / Highlight Sybarite Green / Highlight White / (then maybe Glaze Waywatcher Green?)

Anyway, sounds like a pretty promising method to magic-looking blades.

Got laid up with a foot injury for 4 days and managed to get 5 of my dire wolves completed, told you I'm a slow painter.....

My only disappointment is the flesh colour came out very close to the colour I've used for bone through the army, so the bones don't really stand out. Tried giving them a slight touch up with bleached bone but don't want to go over the top.

@Zacharias The wolves look pretty cool but I think you should revisit your exposed wound areas. I've not tried it yet but I've heard that Tamiya Clear Red mixed with a little Nuln Oil makes for extremely good-looking blood effect. It'll make your wolves look a little more fresh n juicy.

@Adam_Barrow Have you ever used the Citadel Blood for the Blood God paint? If so, how does it compare to the Tamiya method?

I red a guide on www.taleofpainters.com the other week where the guy recommends loading up your brush with the Tamiya red and Nuln oil mix and blowing the mix onto areas of your minis for a splattered effect. Great advice and looks awesome!
