Oh no! Animated! I was hoping that they'd use actual actors :( Well, same with Gears, I'll watch it but I'm not going to expect something magnificent. As a rule, I generally regard Video Game (or in this case tabletop wargaming) movies as just being really really bad. Hitman was alright, but nothing special. Grrr, is it possible for Hollywood to do anything right?

Pietr, with a bit of cgi work and a good budget, a live action could look really good as a 40k movie.
Edit: Wait wait.. "all that stands in their way, are the mighty space marines"
As an imperial guard player, I resent that.

I believe they scrapped this, didn't they? GW decided it was going to cost too much money and, whilst it would be cool, it wouldn't make enough (if any) profit. Yes, it would be bought/watched by almost every Space Marine player. But that's not an awful lot of people when it comes to how many they need to watch a movie.

That trailer revealed nothing new, except maybe 'and the greatest of them all are the Ultramarines', looks like hollywood must have quoted GW HQ there.

This a TEASER, remember. ;)

It's supposed to "tease" the audience, many teaser trailers are normally ranging from 30-60 seconds and simply throw in the movie title, introduce the actors, and any other small non-plot revealing material.

If they make a movie, it should really be about the Horus Heresy. That has the most depth and story to it from anything in 40k that I know of. Considering it's the foundation of a lot of the game!

Besides, I want to hear "FOR THE DARK GODS!" in the trailer... just to see some people freak...

I'm with Swiss Dictator on this one. I'd love to see the rise, and fall, of Horus. Even if they did a trilogy, the first two being about him, then the last being from the "Good" point of view. Uh, thinking about it though, it *might* be too big to do on screen. What are they going to do for the UM anyways? Half a dozen Nids, so about three hundred UM drop and wipe them out in about 20 seconds...???xD

I'm hoping that this is good, I know that it is next to impossible to actually get the rights to anything GW related and hopefully if this is good we might start seeing some more GW related movies, maybe even some of the old world, The Dark lands of Silvania perhaps. I think we should take it for what it really represents, opportunity. Thinking caps on everyone, lets get a few screen plays churning.:zombie:

Where does this come from? This movie is being actively worked on as we speak, and it is so far along that I think it'll be released regardless - as evidenced by the trailer. Too late to turn back now! :D

I think the plan is to release a generic title about the Ultramarines (Games-Workshop's money-cow), and see how much interest it generates. If it works out, more might follow! Yay!

@ Vek: I dunno.... it came from somewhere, perhaps I dreamt about a forum and dreamt up a whole movie trailer... in which case I should be hired by GW and put into some sort of astropathic choir, hooked up to some machine, and fed imagination-cheese. Mmm.....cheese....

But I really think there was souns basis for what I said when I said it. xD(Damn being possessed by Tzeentch, it!)

Mheeee!!!!Frackin' SPACE MARI-I-INES!!!

Every time I see something related to this film I simultaneously get a salute from the Slaanesh Marine in my trousers and the feeling of being 12 years old, before such pangs started bothering me. I really hope it's worth the wait. I have high standards so it had better be top notch, or 12-year-old-Oph will cry and 26-year-old-Oph will get more cynical. Abnett, Stamp, Hurt, Pertwee, how can it possibly be bad? I bought 1984 on DVD the other week, I think I'll watch it later to remind myself how great JH is.

Sorry, where? This is a British film. And therefore marvellous by default. For now.

I think Gree is right about the cancelled movie, Bloodquest, based on the comic strip from about 10 years ago. The film was a while back too.

At the moment it looks a bit.....cheesy, especially to someone not involved in warhammer. It would be great to see the Heresy, but yes I agree it will most probably be Nids which will have people crying "ripoff" everywhere, well all those that have seen Starship Troopers.......

A bit cheesy?.... I would have used a less polite word also beginning with 'c'. This is going to be a massive flop... and I think it will destroy what credibility Space Marines have left.

fixed that for you

Meh, I never liked Ultramarines. I'm a Chaos player. Once I finish this landraider I'm done with my CSM and I'm working on my Daemons. I also have Vostroyans waiting after that.

Chaos and Necrons would be good things to have. Nids, meh... they're so brainless... and mindless in *appearances* if not fact. It makes a very uninteresting antagonist. Having Chaos, Necrons, Dark Eldar, or heck even Orks would at least allow something to break up all the "FOR THE EMP-ERROR" and provide some substance to the enemy rather than "Oh crap, gottakillgottakill-diediedie". Having scenes where the antagonist are centered and developed is rather important.

What do I know though? I just have a history degree where I had to study at least two sides to any event... ever.

Hope there will be some orks in da muvie, what giv' da smurfs a proppa fight...I really hate those blue 'umies....Waaaagh!

I think GW made a very conscious effort in the last Tyranid book to depict them as entirely the opposite of 'mindless bugs', but as an unfathomably vast intelligence, which I find much more menacing. I don't know how they'll depict them in the film (Not a dead certainty of course but definitely the best guess, the Captain in the teaser definitely has the look of a guy who has seen it before but knows he'll never be able to truly understand it) but I'm sure they'll take the current vision into account, which is to say alien cunning, combining the comprehension of highly advanced minds with the animal cunning of predators to create something far more lethal than either.

Obviously there are two high standards of Gribbly Alien from the 80s & 90s below which no modern film can be up to scratch, & I am very hopeful about contemporary CGI.

I flat out refuse to be pessimistic about the film based on what little I have seen, namely the concept art, which is excellent, and one Marine looking pensive, which he does. I am looking forward to this. I'm sure you understand I don't need to sign a disclaimer saying that my opinion may be subject to change in the future, but I do hope it will be good. There is no question in my mind that it has the potential to be good. As yet I can say no more.
