Im a bit unsure if I am mixing new rules with old rules (again). Reading in the BRB its the controlling player who removes the models, but I seem to remember it was supposed to be the opponent who choses? Or was that 7th?

So if I have both zombies and BK's in the same fight, i can chose it to be zombies that gets removed?

In a multiple combat, like that, all units crumble the same amount. Avoid getting your good units in the same combat as our crappy units! They can just focus on the zombies, and your knights will poof!

No. In multiple close combats, both your units crumble by the amount of CR you've lost with.. So never ever ever ever ever ram anything in the flank of something fighting zombies unless you're dead certain you will win the combat..

EDIT:

NINJA'ED ;)

I would love for it to work that way. Charging in Blood Knights in the side of a unit fighting zombies and then allocate all the extra wounds taken from CR to just the zombies. Its really stupid actually, it implies that our units should be able to handle enemy units by themselves... which they clearly cant unless its a bus...

Well zombies are a tarpit, its ok they cant handle themselves but the fact that our tarpit cant actually hold something up till a tougher units gets there kinda removes a tactical tool that most other armies can use to great effect, since even our toughest deathbus will risk getting eaten up by the zombs bleeding insane cr... Oh well, its the price we pay for unbreakable I guess.

Ouch... Is that an faq?

No don't think it actually has been FAQ'ed, but the unstable rule states: p 78

"...Unstable units that lose a combat suffer one extra wound for every point by which they lost the combat, with no saves of any kind permitted against these wounds..."

I don't think it needs to be more clear than that.. I actually haven't seen someone argue anything else, which is odd considering how insane it would be to be able to ram a hammer unit into the side of a unit tarpitted by zeds..

How well does your zombies usually do? I have lost 100 zombies over 2 phases, so it dosnt seem as insane as you make it out to be to me. Not anymore than being tarpitted by slaves and flank charged by hpa a
or another hard unit. You also have to get your m4 zombies into something worthwhile to begin with.

Still im not arguing that it dosnt work like that, it seems to be the way everyone else play it, im just saying that it wouldnt be as op as you make it out to be considering how fast our core dies to anything with good hitting power.

Well the fact that our zombies can be raised back at 2d6 + wizard level does counter in a bit, and that we're unbreakable..! But yes they do die fast as hell :) But I know they wont flee as long as a single models stands after crumble, that certainty is worth a lot to me.. Though steadfast is thrown around like candy and is often better than the unbreakable/unstable combo..

Maybe insane was a bad choice of words, but I would love being able to, as a VC player, ram anything into a fight my core is in, that would be huge :) I bet others would love it too :)

Yah, I only recently started playing 8th again having not played much in this eddition at all, so we actually played it the wrong way. I charged a unit of 25 ironbreakers with a hero and a runeguy (None of them killy) with my 38 ghouls. Not a good target with the IB's 3+ AS I know, but on the other hand they dont have allot of str to hit my guys with and I managed to combo charge hitting his flank with my 5 blood knights so I thought I would be alright. We didnt get to play the fight to the end, but when we stopped I had lost all my ghouls and only had 2 knights left and he had his heroes still standing of that unit. If we had played it the right way, my blood knights would have died to crumble in his combat phase and 650 points worth of VC would have vapoured away to a decent, but not great unit. What I am trying to say is, that to make our tarpits worth anything we need to get a few IoN through, and relying on getting magic through is a bad tactic in my book... Anyways, its the only time I have actually had that situation in my last 10 or so games so it dosnt seem like a big deal and I can play around it easy enoug, it just take away a tactical tool thats all :)

Wow, I've been playing this all wrong. I always thought you could take the casualties from whichever unit you needed to. So if I have 3 units I loose 3x the casualties? that majorly sucks!

Not that you usually lose units when you have multiples ones involved.

Used to be the way u play. 5th ed and 6th ed if i remember correctly

Ya I watched a Tomb King army charge 4 units into a beefed up lizard man death star and loose combat by 12 :O .... Then poof he had no more army  .

CR really hits us hard in this edition.. I would have thought that if a unit takes 5 wounds then it can suffer up to 5 wounds worth from CR not 5 plus 12 more because the zombies cant fight their way out of a wet paper bag. Oh well that's the rules and we have to adapt with it. Just try to bring units that can hold their own or if you do a multi-charge make sure you crush your opponent in that fight or your doooomed..
