Emicrania,
You seemed so tortured by on hand being responsible with money (good thing) and holding GW to a certain ideal (noble of you) and then on the other loving Warhammer and wanting to enjoy the cool stuff they put out like Nagash and the upcoming Morartchs. I have a suggestion that might work.
First, buy only the models from GW that you can't easily use another company's or really got to have. I am sure you are already doing this, but I guess mentally get yourself in the mindset that you are buying zombies and skeletons from mantic (or whom ever) and only occasionally buying nagash , terrorgiest etc. So, since the models are cheaper from the other company you are saving enough that the occasional expensive model isn't hitting you as hard.
Second, if you and your friends play at a FLGS, approach the owner as a group, and offer to buy your stuff from him if he can give you guys a bulk discount that at least meets the other online discounts (20% I think right?). And then apply that discount to GW.
So, you'd be getting new mantic and other companies at same price as online. You get a similar deal on GW. Your local game store gets taken care of with the profit margin you've left them. Which means you can feel good for doing your part keeping your club house in business. And as a whole your saving extra on the GW.
Then you can enjoy the occasional GW cool thing with the rest of us, looking at your warhammer expenses as a whole. Take it another step, and track your time spent playing and painting vs money spent and try to get your cost per hour low. That makes it even easier to enjoy when you compare warhammer's cost/time ratio to other hobbies. It's actually low if you play on a regular basis.
Good luck man, hope that was helpful. Your a good player from the sounds of that last battle you played and I hope we can help you have fun with Nagash and the new toys instead of it causing you so much stress.
Oh, and you can always convert your own. There is that. Though the model is so baaaaad assssssss that it deserves its own retro action show grind house style.
