Bummer -- went to go to my local store to pick up my preordered cards, but there was some sort of mix up with their new GW rep and they got 0 cards instead of what they ordered. A weird side note is that GW told them the max they could get would be 3 sets of the cards despite being a fairly big store. I'm starting to think the spell card eBayers are just GW employees. :skull:

Bought me a box of black knights to make myself feel better. :vampire3:

Yeah, my shop had 5 sets of the books, 5 Nagash models, 3 cards and 2 of the novels. One of the guys was saying "And you know what the silly thing is? HQ will turn around and have a go at us when we don't make target this week. Well, we could have easily made it if you'd given us the stock!"

@Banat My favorite GW employee, the guy that convinced a poor 22 year old student start warhammer (of all things) was fired because of not reaching his "target". After they fired him the store lost most of their regular customers..

Similarly the Oslo GW store only had 7 of all the new releases.

Over 10 pages of reading and I'm finally caught up! :o

Overall though, everything I have seen still makes me very happy. Lots of rumours floating around as well, but reading between the lines my hunch is that the 9th edition will consolidate some of the rulebooks back again. I think this campaign is almost playtesting, and if as such in the 9th we could end up with an Undead book, Armies of Chaos, possibly even an Elven book (though this would be harder).

I'm not overly too bothered about some of the new special characters / units, only Nagash xD I am very interested to read the fluff though, need to get hold of the books ASAP.

Don't get my hopes up for a combined book.

I don't get my copy of this one for another 2 days anyway as I ordered the limited edition one. :-P
Makes me wonder though with the character increase could we see the red duke and walach return to the army book?
Some much awesome for my blood dragons right there.

So the book says that it changes warhammer, like edition 8.5. So what I get from this: A) VC and TK no longer suffer from slain general. B) Undead Legions is a new army that can be fielded in regular matches. C) Forbidden Lore can now be used for Undeath. D)Our characters (at least Vlad and Mannfred) have been updated.

Some questions regarding new rules: 1) if you summon a necromancer, which lore(s) does he know? If you get to decide, do you roll for the spell? 2)Is Undead Legions a Force of Destruction or is it unaligned for purposes of alliances?

Well I do believe it is still described as an expansion. But it seems they do want it to be more than that, 8.5 is an apt description, though I still think a lot will play with the regular rules.

A) yes that is correct.
B) it can be used in any game of warhammer yes. But I still believe you will have to convince people it is not just an expansion. Just getting excited by the fact that Nagash is back baby, should do the trick for most :)
C) Every wizard can use lore of undeath, so using forbidden lore to get it would be a waste of points.
D) If you chose to field an undead legion army they are yes. You can still field a regular VC army.

1) Not stated specifically as to what I can see, but you follow the rules of the summoned unit, so you would have to chose a lore and roll for spells, just like you would normally. I can't see any other way to do it.
2) has been answered.

I'm interested to see how army books will be designed and released in the near future. I'm not so sure on the entire consolidation thing though, since, barring supplement books, it'd be less product for GW to sell. My hesitation might be based on the fact that consolidation worries me since I love beastmen and would hate to see them relegated to a small portion of the Chaos book like they used to be as well as other less popular armies getting the bone like that.

However, I think optional consolidated books like the End Times ones is a good idea. I'm really waiting for the supplement books they release for 40k to find their way into fantasy. That'd be a cool way to give us the different bloodlines again plus it makes me drool thinking the major skaven clans could eventually get their own supplement books.

Just been reading through the Mortarchs rules again, although they have a high amount of wounds being T5 is quite poor really. Especially when you consider Manfred has the best armour save of the bunch (4+) and nobody seemed to think giving any of them a ward save was a good idea. Personally I feel Vlad is the best option other than Nagash.

GW are always doing that with their special characters, its annoys me that Vilitch in the chaos book is a lord choice just short of 400pts, and his only save is his chaos armour, he's my favourite chaos character but i rarely use him for this reason

The "no more crumble" rule really depends on how/when your meta decides you are playing, as the fluff reason for it is that as Nagash has complete dominion over the undead, you no longer need General's/Necromancer's/Hierophant's to act as stabilising focii for the magic that keeps the undead together. So if you're playing during the End Times then yes, no more crumble. However if your meta is playing a pre-end times game then there would still be crumble (for example, Mannfred's first campaign, or sigmar's blood, or Vlad's campaign etc etc).

Only Krell and vlad are T5, the rest are T6 and have a minimum of 8 wounds and can regen by killing and with spells, neferata is -1 to hit too. But yes at the very least a better armour save would've been nice.

My mistake didn't have the book to hand when I was typing. But my main issue is no wards and Neferata and Arkhan essentially wearing light armour seems a bit off.

The way I figured it is they have so many freaking wounds, they couldn't justify putting better armour on them AS WELL. Especially when, as said, they can regen during combat.

LoV spells will also restore wounds thanks to the lore ability.

Ok, so I have a full count of the Mortarchs. They are:

- Mannfred (still active, returning to Sylvania w/ Nagash and his Black Pyramid)

- Arkhan (killed in battle against Settra, but I can't imagine Nagash will leave him that way)

- Nefarata (still active, returning to Sylvania w/ Nagash and his Black Pyramid)

- Krell (still active, returning to Sylvania w/ Nagash and his Black Pyramid)

- Vlad (still active, fighting against chaos in the far north, serves Nagash in the hopes of restoring Isabella)

- Luther Harkon (not sure, but afaik still active and returning to Sylvania w/ Nagash and his Black Pyramid)

- Dieter Helsnicht (now a wraith-like disembodied gatekeeper of Nehekhara's land of the dead)

- Walach Harkon (now dead, killed by Vlad after betraying Nagash by slaying Karl Franz during a battle with Crom)

- The Nameless (a 'once-great enchanter' that had been lurking beneath the grey mountains since a recent defeat shattered its mind and stole its memories, still active, afaik is heading North to support Vlad but hasn't reached him yet, serves Nagash in the hopes of restoring his memories)

Note that I haven't read the whole book cover to cover, I'm not completely clear on Luthor's current status, or the current position of the Nameless. There is at least one opening, since as far as I can tell Walach no longer claims a place among the Nine, and may be more, as I'm not sure whether Helsnicht currently counts, as he's no longer among the world of the living, and Arkhan is technically dead at the end of the book, but again I cannot imagine he will remain so, as the Lich Priests fail to complete the ritual that would banish his spirit forever, and even if they had Nagash has already displayed the ability to call souls back even from true death.

Some prospects are also accounted for. Zaccharias attempted to test his powers against Nagash when he first hears the call, and is destroyed for his vanity. It's the only mention of Zaccharias in the entire book, which is quite frustrating, IMO he deserved better. Dietrich von Dohl in Sylvania attempts to bargain with Nagash in exchange for his service, and meets a similar fate.

There are potentially multiple possible identities for the Nameless. I would like for it to be W'Soran or Melchoir, since IMO Nagash's return is rather shamefully lacking in participation from the one bloodline to supposedly stay mostly loyal to him over the centuries, but imo it is almost assuredly Heinrich Kemmler. Before Nagash's ressurection Kemmler attempts to betray Arkhan and steal Nagash's staff of power for himself, with the intent of offering it and his loyalty to the Chaos Gods. Arkhan defeats Kemmler in a magical duel, but the book does not state outright that the Lichmaster is slain. This takes place at the Brettonian monestary of La Maisontaal, which is in / near to the Frey Mountains. As such, this matches with the Nameless lurking in the Grey Mountains following a 'recent defeat'.

If the Nameless isn't Kemmler (and again, I view that as unlikely), then if the Lichmaster survives he's likely thrown his lot in with chaos, and may appear serving Archaon in the future.

I do hope we will get more models & rules for the remaining Mortarchs in future end times books, as well as a suitable replacement for Walach (I'm hoping a Necrarch this time), but for the moment we'll have to make do with the five we've got.

I thought the Nameless could be Constant Drachenfels, it seemed odd that the nameless was refered to as an enchanter specifically and his base of operations and where his soul is currently floating about is in the Grey Mountains.

I had thought drachenfels was rtconned out of existance, but drachenfels as nameless with kemmler working for archaon would be considerably cooler than kemmler as nameless. Still less likely, though, imo, but we can hope. The prospect of both drachenfels and nagash being playable at the same time might be a bit much for my heart to take.

Less retcon more forgotten about. Castle Drachenfels is mentioned a few times in various books, according to the wiki the heraldry of the empire and empire army book mention it, and i'm certain the vampire counts army book makes passing reference to it. If drachenfels was retconned out i would have thought his castle would be gone too.
