I'll probably be getting one of each set. In all honestly the psychological impact alone of putting those two hulking figures alongside say Nagash, or tbh just as imposing against your Mortarch general in support would possibly be enough to throw your opponent a little. Or keep them with your main battle lines reducing that crumble. The spirit swarms have to be the best out of ANY of the swarm sets. They make the bats look positively pathetic.

There does appear to be a very distinctive new style GW are running with and it will be interesting to see how it flows through into the new releases for the other races/factions.

I'm digging the Morghasts, but they are quite expensive. I already spent about 500$ CAD in that release, so we'll see next week if I feel like ordering a box of them or not.

I like the Spirit a lot more than expected though. And the price, for once I could say those are a bargain! Really cheap and worth it, considering how they are used in the game. But I won't buy any though, I'm overflowing with Spirit Host already, with lots of leftover to make more base.

15% off plus working in the hobby shop employee discount :)

Spent $270 for nagash model + limited edition books and then 237 for 3 pack of mortarchs.... Totally worth it
That sounds like you paid full price. I think the Limited Edition books were $160 and Nagash was $105. and then the mortarchs are $79 individually and the set of 3 is $237 as listed on GW (even in a bundle, no discount). I don't see where the discount is... You paid full price my friend...

No no I did for those (preorder) but when I bought my batallions and TG and stuff (before the 15% store wide) I paid after tax about 10% less than the price tag

EDIT: I paid full for that because my friend who works at the store where I am told me no limited editions to the store (I dunno why) so yeah I paid full price for nagash stuff but my original 4000 points of VC I paid less

I got sorta lucky with my the box of Blood Dragons I picked up off the shelf today. I finally crumbled and ended up buying them. I had contemplated getting the chinese knock offs (£25) but would have had to wait ages (I'M IMPATIENT) plus the actual image of the imitations doesn't look like perfect imitations, they look just less... well anyway... So turns out in the box they had put the same two sides for one of the horses. So I have four knights and two left sides of the same horse. So they've ordered another box in for me and I'm effectively getting nine Blood Knights for the price of 5. I could be cheeky and make a cast of the piece when it arrives and then am able to make the first horse that was missing, so 10 for 5.

However, there is another issue with the box, on top of it's absurd price. You only get two lances. So you can ONLY make 5 Knights with full command. You can't make just five add on knights say if you want to bump your unit up to 10. The guy at the store wasn't impressed, even before we found out the horse half scandal he was practically already calling mail order to complain about "warped lances, we need some 'replacements',".

Kind of lucky by being unlucky.

The blood dragon box is shameful, yes. Not just the price, but everything about it. I'm not a fan of any easy GW alternatives (empire, chaos, or high elf knights), either. If I had any desire to add a unit, I'd need to go third party. And not Mantic, either, as I really dislike their cavalry. There was some 3rd party vampire knights something that looked pretty good from a couple years ago, but I can't remember what they were called, and they wren't really any cheaper than the GW ones, but at least they looked good & weren't made out of a garbage material.

I had a similar issue when I first bought my blood knights. On of the heads was cut in half or molded improperly, but they only sent me one additional model, not a whole set (lucky you). Then when I got the replacement model, it had no torso... They refused to replace that one because "I only needed the head." I still have basically another knight unassembled because I can't find a good torso to fit on it.

Gamezone Mournful Knights. That's what I was thinking of. And they're actually somewhat cheaper than GW blood knights even after considering shipping, though quite pricey.

But yeah, they look great (at least in online pics), and are metal, not finecast, and can be purchased either individually or in a box set with command, so you can get the unit size you want. If I were doing blood knights, I'd get those.

Hell, if you're looking for a mounted blender lord, they seem a good option as well.

I would love to get some because they look gorgeous, although they are in set poses admittedly. But I don't think my GW would view taking another game system's products on their shop tables very favourably.

I guess it's possible, would be amazing. AMAZING. But I think it's unlikely. Also one of the halves of one of the other horses has been horrifically cast, so its not so much 9 for 5 as 8 for 5... sigh.

@Pirate Robot Ninja of Death No crumble when our general dies is almost too much. The rest I feel TK deserved already. Construct list look extremely tempting now.. Necro knights with a 3+ 4+? Yes please. Aren't Ushabti constructs though? So they would still only get one wound?

As for VC I am happy we get shooting, and ws/hatred buffs are just fantastic. We can now do all cav armies!! And blood knights can be healed by 2-4 wounds with LoUD!!!

Again if anyone have any conversions, or ideas for warsphinxes and necro knights do tell me.

I would like something less egyptian for those models.

It used to be that combining Lore of Vampires with TK meant that you could heal 1+wizard level wounds onto ushabti and snakes, while Lore of Nehekhara could add d3+1 per casting to vampires and terrorgheists/zombie dragons. Undead Legions fixes this to make the restrictions applicable to large targets / vampires / constructs standard across both lores (and Lore of Undeath too).

Which...is fair enough. Honestly that was the thing I used to most love abusing with the various ally rules (Triumph and Treachery, scrolls of binding, etc.). Fair enough that it's not allowed in the more "mainstream" army, though.

Which it looks like UL will be. My very no-nonsense tournament-focused gaming group has decided to allow UL armies, so long as they comply with the standard 25/25 lord hero allotments. I'm very excited by this.

Do not buy finecast. Especially not sight unseen. But mostly just never.

Definitely not sight unseen, but I'm a huge fan of finecast these days. It's fragile and the models will distort in the heat sometimes, but it's also a dream to work with for conversions (especially compared to metal) and the detail is indeed fantastic. It's no forgeworld, but it's better than metal IMHO.
