Finally finished Neferata!

I could have done without the zillions of flashbacks but that's a minor quibble really as that is just down to my personal preference for a more linear story telling style. Mind you the flash back's are usually quite interesting, often because they've often got physical conflict in them.

It was a fairly good read although I found every Master Vampire more interesting than Neferata herself.

Ushoran and W'soran were especially amazing, they seemed to highlite the faults that come with vampirism were as Neferata's and Abhorash's are a bit more subtle.

Anywhos even if Lahmians are still my least favourite of the bloodlines, I like them a lot more than I did.
Although I still dislike Neferata herself, I wanted someone to just grab her by the shoulders and shake some sense into her, perhaps while screaming "Your aren't a Queen anymore you idiot! You lost your kingdom and you shouldn't ever be allowed another!"

One thing about it that I liked is that Neferata was a lot more powerful than she had been originally. All in all, not as bad a copy of Akasha as she used to be

Neferata was and always will be Queen. She simply can't be anything less! And to be fair she pulled it off quite well in the end.

Also I am not going to spoil the Soran book for you but god damn it XDDD That vamp does not like anyone. At best he dislikes someone the least amount. And god is he evil O_O Quite the sadist.

Edit: Also the book has tons and tons of flashbacks and I think it will be the same for all books. It's done to describe what each and every vamp thought and why they act the way they do.

I imagine so, W'soran came off as reaalllyyy messed up in the first book with all his minions terrified off him xD I can't wait, I've ordered it but it won't be here for ages.

Pfft Nefereta is a gypsy more than a Queen.

I want an Abhorash book, he was the person who interested me most in the Nefereta book.

Edit: That is to say interested me the most but with the least amount of actual time. W'soran and Ushoran were more interesting but the former is getting a book and the second got more "screen time".

What is interesting because he is in the end the most boring character. I find most of his fans to be men who just get thew hole badass honor bound warrior vibe and think that's neat. < not a insult! Just how I feel about it.

Also Soran is still pretty much scaring everyone around him in his own book. But so far so good!

I thought he came off as very human in a flawed sort of way. A monster who dislikes what he was and basically was too weak of will to do anything but follow.
I found that interesting.
Also Nefereta knocked him across the room, it was lulz worthy.

Also no offense taken since I couldn't care less about the honour warrior thing

Can't wait to read the W'soran one though, he's my favy.

I can't believe it! I think the book actually explains with the Libre necris ( or something, whatever it was called) has some ''lore mistakes'' in it xD

I assumed it's because Mannfred was talking out of his ass

Or he just wasn't quite as good a scholar as he thinks :clown:

So master of death is worth picking up then? Was going to get it just to have the trilogy (when Blood Dragon comes out next year) but thought it might be quite dull from a BD perspective. Hell Neferata was quite surprising in how many master Vamps feature. Nice to know BL are at least being respectful to us.

Do not read the book if you believe Soran to be the master of everything.

I know this sounds weird but! I love Neferata and I also loved (most) of her weaknesses that she displayed and how they did bite her in the ass and bla bla.
Soran is much the same. He has some nasty weaknesses he has to fight through out the book ( not physical or mag-..ah you will see!).

But I am starting to like mr Blood Dragon more that he defended a crappy little town against Neferata, captured her but never handed her over because it was still his duty to protect the Queen. He was fine with containing her for a bit but that was it. Such a honor bound thing :(

And you are pretty much right. It is stated bluntly that the liber nec-..yada yada. Was from the start written from very biased viewpoints xD

Writing Vamp's as all powerful is utterly boring so that's good! (I found Neferata to be too physically powerful for my liking but her personality faults did sort of make up for it)

Is there any writing about where the von Carsteins came from? Since Vash doesn't seem to be mentioned anymore.

So GW have invalidated their fluff in the Liber Necris. I suppose the Liber Necris was getting quite old and clashed a lot with the other stuff, but it had a lot of material on the vamps, the kind of amount you just won't see being produced by today's BL in a single tome. Vashanesh has been cut out...as have many of the other master vamps. What happened to Maatameses, Al-ghol, Harkathe and Harkon? What happened to the Bhuta and the jade-blooded? Some of this new fluff is better, but it's far less extensive, and invalidating the old stuff is not necessarily a good thing in regards to helping the lore develop.

Even Soran is physically -very- strong. All the first/second generation vampires are very, very scary when it comes to what they can do with physical strength alone.

Vash is written out of the lore almost fully. He had a bit of screentime in a Nagash book before being killed. I think we might get hints at where Carsteins came from in the last book. At the moment Soran stuff is focused on the crown of Nagash and how all of the Bloodlines turned up the way they are now.

Oh and you even see a Nippon kungfu lahmian in the story xD She is neat.

How did you get Master of Death so early :( I wants it!

In the Neferata novel she practically takes the piss out of W'soran's physical attributes.

Like where she says something like "my daughters where fast and strong...and the withered vampire was neither". (That won't even be close to quote but its the same meaning, during one of the backy-whoosh-flashes)

But he has mad dark side force lightning powers so it's ok.

Actually that does come into play in the book. The speed of a Lahmian is dangerous to the point that Soran can't keep up and he struggles to fling spells at them. But for that he has some other nastyh tricks up his sleeve.

Edit: But Soran is still more then able to pick up a Strigoi vampire and smash him into a wall. But he really prefers not to!

They have not so much as cut it out.
This is one take on it and its a novel, not a background book.
You have to remember all the old army books, background books, Liber Necris, Nights Dark Masters and many other predate and outnumber.
Just because the most recent novel is a little different does not change that, if it came down to a GW lore book saying as much I would have to take it into account, unhappily as it harms progress and invalidates many other background stories and clashes with other back grounds in armies as well but It would have to be accepted for a time until they changed it again.

Just at the end of the day, this is a authors take on things as it stands and the next one may change it even more, I just hope if they decide to toe the line of rewiting and ruining all pre established lore they at least keep and all the characters and just try improve on the base rather than a complete rewrite.
I don't want to have to learn a whole new background for them to change it again in 10 years time. :swear:

And I am just going to add it here too. I poked and the authors where told by GW to write out Vash.

Utterly written out, I'm afraid. Vlad Von Carstein is officially a mystery man, whose origin is shrouded in secrecy as per GW.

Edit: You like old lore and prefer to follow it? Fine.
Don't claim that because you like the old lore more it is more viable due to being old. Like said in the other thread most games and fantasy/sci-fi settings get their lore adjusted/changed/improved. And yeah I can admit not everyone (myself included) will always like the changes.

So was looking through my bookcases for the Red Duke last night and found I already own the first Ulrika book.

Half way through it, quite enjoy it and I really like the main vampires excepting the Boss of Nuln.

Some of the humans are interesting too, the Templar seems fairly awesome although Ser Bloodswaine sucks, I'm really enjoying seeing the effects it has on a human was is fed from often.

Correction.
I like lore, not so much the novels that change with the drop of a hat or the authors mood.
The amount of mistakes I have seen in novels beggers belief, thats not even taking into account things that just don't make any sense.

At the end of the day though this is not going to be something we will ever agree on, I follow the lore very closely, you tend to be more in line with the newer novels.
Having played through the old campaigns and lore I can't just sake it off because as I would say... "You weren't there man, You weren't there!". (Been waiting for an excuse to use that line for a while now.)

They are good, you just have to keep you eye out for the Gotrek and Felix cross overs as well, so much going on there, she is becoming a really good character.

Yeh, they need to rotate their feeding partners more frequently or they become all stalkerish. :P

Whilst I too preferred a lot of the older stuff, I'm starting to really like the newer to.

A curiousity though, isn't the new "lore" what is written in the novels? Since I was under the impression that GW were basically telling the writers to go in the direction they're now going.

I had thought the novels and lore was one, especially with things like the Time of Legends or in 40K Horus Hersey.

Is this not the case?

It does seem awesome :D

The only thing I really dislike is the mixing of bloodlines explanation that Ulrika got, the whole blood mixing thing just seemed stupid to me.

What on earth are you on about? I have posted and said this so many times already.
GW ( to who all things warhammer belong to) told the Authors to write out vash and wanted the new lore. You dislike said lore and claim it's wrong and just bad authors writing bad books. Even though I keep slapping you with the simple fact it was GW's desire. It just can't get any more official then that.

Is this not the case?

Yes it is. How do I know? Because I went and bluntly asked if it was the will of GW or not. This does not mean they wont change it again over the years of course but that does not change what we have/got now.

Thought so but was getting confuzled.

If the second vampy time of legends is better than the first then it's not a change I'll be sad about.

My copy got dispatched today I think.

Edit: No the 19th :(

I quite liked the second book and I am starting to believe we are getting Nagash back soon. They did hype him even in that book quite a bit.

Check out Mannfred's latest story in the latest GW VC army book. He - and all of the Carsteins working for him - are trying to bring back the dwarves - and at the end of the story, he proceeds to Khemri, sacrifice in his control, after defeating the dwarves and elves. They haven't got an "I win!" button this time! :vampire3:

Furthermore, GW no longer sells the Nagash model. They stopped selling the clown recently. It's not even available on their online store any more. This suggests that Nagash might be getting a new model...he could be returning! :vampire3:
