No new black knights; that's a blow. Of course they are easy to convert from other races, but the problem is that the cavalry units of the other races suck as well. Empire didn't get new knights, HE didn't get new knights, and now it seems as though VC don't get any new knights either. Well, of course we get those blood knights that sounds like a real nice looking unit, but I still don't like them in gaming terms.

Okay, I got carried away. As pointed out, it's far from certain that we've seen all the new models yet. Still, it does make sense: new blood knights, über unit, fantastic models, pricey I guess. GW probably want to sell loads of these, and thus they don't redo the black knights so that they'll lessen the attention the blood knights get.

Ah well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see. At the moment I just look forward to seeing more of the new models - they really sound ace. I just hope my expectations aren't too high after the incredible mounted vampire we saw earlier.

So, no skirmishers for VC... *faints*

Yeah, this is really something we must learn to cope with. As for me, I already have some nice ideas for dioramatic (whatever...) units in mind.

I can't see why we need two lots of, what sounds like, elite cavalry and I still can't believe we're potentially losing our skirmishers.

I thought he said there WERE new black knights (they have now become a rare slot)

Not entirely correct.

I was a little disapointed to see the Black Knights the same models, I didn't find out if they were due a redo, sorry.

So he didn't see any new BK models. The knights that were rare, are allegedly the new Blood Knights.

Well as Black Knights I have converted Empire knights that I'm quite happy with, so no big deal. It's always cool with new models, but as mentioned, perhaps GW don't want to take anything away from the new and shiny thrall knights? They are in the process of experimenting with release policy apparently (showing off newVC, DE and Chaos models years before release), so I wouldn't rule out new Black Knights in the future, even when they have turned their attention to other army books.

Today VC can have absolutely lethal cavalry armies, and I hope that nothing will change for the worse in that department. I hope VC gets to keep all it's dimensions.

No new zombies is a bit of a shock, i'd have liked to see better scaled ones. I still have my 40 converted ones to keep me going. New skellies are just what we need, even though it does mean that the TK ones will still be massive.

No new coach, BK, wraiths and fell and swarm bats are a bit of a bugger. The bats are genuinely dire. BK are passable now. I longed for a redesign of wraiths - i dislike the grim reaper look.

Haven't heard anything on the 'bone cart' lately. Maybe it's been dropped for the re-vamped (ahahaa!) coach?

I found this while browsing Blood Keep's Rumours page. The sticky thread was old but an interesting read; it was close to the release of Ogre Kingdoms (can you imagine how old! 3 years ago!) in 2004. I found an interesting Q&A which happened to be pretty accurate! Check this out:

Kiljaeden: Hello Mr. Thorpe, first off I want to say that I love your work.

Gav Thorpe: Thank you very much.

K: I got a quick question, I'm a moderator on the Blood Keep, the largest vampire count site on the net and I have some friends over on Druchii.net and they were telling me how awesome it was collaberating with you guys on writing the revisions for the dark elf army, is there any plans to do that in the future with other large racial forums?

GT: It is definatly something we are thinking about.

K: I think its a great idea allowing the fans a little imput into what they would like to see in their army.

GT: We do to, it was great working with the people on Druchii, and while we really want to avoid doing any more revisions, for future releases we would really like to get the players imput.

K: Do you have people that browse the varius forums to get a feel for what the players wants and needs are?

GT: When someone is writing a new update or a new book, we definatly try and find out what the players would like to see. Part of that is checking out the various sites yes. I would definatly like to take a look at Vampire Counts in the future.

K: I was thinking that there would probably be another large campaign in 2007 that would herald Nagashs Return, thus providing the perfect setting for a new army book.

GT: 2007? (thinks for a bit) maybe a little bit later than 2007.

K: Ah ok then. Well thanks for your time Mr Thorpe.

GT: Np at all it was very nice to meet you.

We shook hands and I went off feeling pretty good. So it looks like the earliest possible date for any kind of major Vampire Count revisions is 2008. Hopefully we will see some more minor updates before then however.

I was thinking that too, under the name 'Bone Cart'. To me, it was always a bit weird to ride around with a Coach and a valuable, "dead" Vampire in it... I mean, why ride around with it when such a precious thing is in it... One cannonshot and poof!

Clearly, GW are in a "quick and easy " army release mode. Almost no new models, major changes in the rules, and that's about it.

Frankly, I am under the impression the modellist and the game design teams are not working that much with each other, so that rules and models have their respective timelines...

Interesting post Monsieur Guillaume, I guess we'll have to wait longer?

The answer to that is simple - the best place to harvest souls is the battlefield.

About 6 months.

Indeed. The interesting bit is that it was speculated by Gav that VC would be released earliest in 2008. And what happens?

This could mean GW is working well, as he stated 'VC at earliest', or he honestly didn't know the order of armies that "should" come out during the 3 year period (2004-2007), and after that. Either way, his prediction was true!

Another interesting bit is that they proved that they must have looked at CN and BK for some 'wants' in the new army book. :)

Yeah, well we had the enigmatic MrTee in the Blood Keep who claimed to be working for GW and he started us up with development suggestions on Lahmia. He was in the 'keep-the-bloodlines camp' and ultimately one of them who lost the internal struggle.

VC was bound to be out before High Elves, according to some sources, but the HE model range team was faster and had their stuff completed before us, so that's the way it went.

This is not true, the HE development began almost a year before the VC one.

Hi Folks,

Don't know whether this has been said before, but was talking to the store manager in my local and he says that on the "shelf space allocator" there must be room for 7 plastic VC boxes.

Ah, I always thought it sounded strange, I stand corrected, thanks.

Zuckuss

Is this full size boxes or the smaller ones.

Totting up at present, we have:
Skeletons
Zombies
Black Coach
Zaccharias
BD on winged nightmare

Add to this, as poaaible new boxed
Wolves
BK

And as possible half sized:
Grave Guard
Ghouls
Swarms
Wraiths

as a minimum, and we are there or there about without much change.

Those were the plastic boxes, so regiments/models made out of plastic.

Ones which he talked about:

Skeletons - should be getting redone (its been covered elsewhere and he said the same thing)
Zombies - although not a total redo (bodies and heads the same) new sprues which will have extra bits on
Grave Guard - already been talked about
Dire Wolves - Done in regiment boxes not blisters
Black Knights - wouldnt give me a definite, but if they are redoing the skeletons can't see why not.

This leaves two new units to get the "plastic fantastic" treatment (his words). He wasnt 100% sure which ones though, just that he had to plan for the space for 2 more boxes.

Well I wanted S8 6 attacks Terror causing werewolves of doom for 20 points each but that does not seemed to have materialised!

I've looked on CN and BK but I can't find the posts though of where people requested that they wanted to see Ghouls no longer be skirmishers, weaker zombies, and the bloodlines to disappear??!

This doesn't surprise me... High Elves only got a new Dragon, new Lord in a box and the Lion Chariot. The rest of it are all old. The Mage in box version is probably new, but the model was out some time ago.

They only needed a rules revision. Seems like that "saved" some time for GW.

There hasn't been any. But GW can't do all what the fan fora wish. :D Well, I did actually hope for cheaper Zombies... Besides, Bloodlines won't disappear, only in-game. The only other army that has it in a more elaborate way is Chaos, and they're rumoured to be next too (some vague idea says they'll remove the favoured of those Gods too).

Now it's just one big aristocratic family being Vampires, and some feint outsiders roaming a bit around.

Count Guillaume said:
Judging from the the plastic Mannfred von Carstein, perhaps all Special Characters too in some sort?

Not plastic. They make early versions of models in resin, so that's why it looks plastic.
