And what other army can have a unit that charges 18", has a 2+ armour save, a 4+ ward against shooting and Regeneration, plus 5 attacks each at S7 on the charge?

I'm just assuming that you're on about the blood knights with the above piece of text. Anyway, you're exaggerating them a bit as they "only" charge 14'' and "only" have 3 S7 attacks each on the charge, the other 2 attacks come from the nightmare steeds at S4.

Now, I'm not out to rain on your blood knight parade, for sure. I love them as well but they do have their downfalls to be aware of. :(

As for why I chose the vampire counts over the tomb kings... let's just say wights. Walking wights, mounted wights, leader wights.

Well part of it was I could have some flexibility in theme... so I could do undead Empire (and make use of the extra Empire I had).

Part of it was because I had bought army books before finally finding a group to play with, I had Empire, Orcs, and VC.

Also, the figure range to a degree. The Black Coach is a great model, I really love it. The Blood Dragon vampires were really cool too.

Conversion possibilities (tying into my first point) could be cool, and cheap. My Black Knights are kinda like Empire Knights/Keshiks.

The more evil tone is very appealing, as I can justify being very aggressive and spiteful. Plus it fits my misanthropy.

I also hadn't been exposed much to TK, I do like their background material and how they good be a regimented undead. Plus they share one thing I love about VC: Skeletons. However, VC wins out as they have more then just skeletons... (granted TK have Ushapti and the Scorpion... plus and awesome catapult)... and have ethereal unis, zombies, ghouls, and (a favorite of mine) wights.

I'm finding I do like the Sylvanian theme more. Though I really loved the Blood Dragons... but I don't like the blood knights.

It's the 6th edition book that got me hooked, though I'm finally beginning to be happy with the new book.

Simple Hammer House of Horror! Vampires are just the greatest evil creation ever. (Zombies also fairly close, and if you loved Jason and the Argonauts as a kid, then Skeleton Warriors rock, though Ghouls have a nice special horror to them).

The VC just has more gothic horror to it. I’d love GW to shoe horn in a Werewolf or 2, but hey-ho, can’t have everything.

TK’s good fluff, but they are dull to play with and against. Ultimate army for castling up.

It almost doesn’t matter what the VC fluff is, because you have all the real world fiction on Vampires, Ghouls, Zombies and Necromancy. So much inspiration out there from film, books and well any medium you want to name. Much less out there on Mummies.

Give me Christopher’s Dracula battling Peter Cushing’s Van Helsing (and throw in some Hammer Horror vamps with cleavage you can ski down), everyday of week over Christopher Lee or Boris Karloff as the Mummy

The short answer: Because they are vampires.

I've always just been fascinated with vampires, so the counts where the only real choice when I picked up warhammer fantasy.

I did consider Tomb Kings, as i did every other WFB Army. For me, having little idea about Fantasy (rules and indepth background) i will honestly say that looks were my first attraction to VC, I'm not that keen on the somewhat Egyptian "feel" of TK.
The VC's remind me of a medieval European type of force and the Classic horror theme works into that feeling aswell i think.

I like both, given the chance I will collect both, but there is only so much room for my undead army collection.

Well, I really want to do tomb kings, but somehow I want to wait to see how their new book will look before I start them. As an archaeologist and osteoarchaeologist (skeleton specialist) the kings have a very speical appeal to me.
But for now I will start a fighty VC army, since it gives me more flexibility, and by using my knowledge of archaeological finds of extremely well preserved mummies, like those from the Andes, who have been preserved by the climate, I can make use of my 20 later roman metal minis and from a wight unit from the time of Sigmar.

Hello fellow undeads, this is my first post!

I am about to start VC, and I wanted to join some group to discuss and learn a bit more, and maybe get some new ideas. I am happy to finally join the "Theatre des Vampires" ;) .

The vampires are just very characterful, powerful yet pathetic figures, perfect for an amazingly personalized army.

What I want to do is a Vampire Clan army, based on a semi-egyptian look, to create a blood-driking aristocracy force....

and yes, I haven't found the models yet.

Doc

I recommend you do everything you can to get ahold of all Lahmian and Necarch Vampire blisters. Then paint them a form of yellowish-beige-brown. They could very easily be made to appear as a Nagash-era Vampire Count army.

I like alot of the vamp models and there's more options for converting using models from other forces, also I like the ability to theme by what stuff you give the vampires. But what really got me into it are some of the models like the blood knights especially.

They were my first army. I'm 21 years old now, when I was like 12 or 13 my mother told me: "Choose the army you like most", I chose 5th edition "Undead" by that time, when they split into two different armies, I chose "Vampire Counts", because I love Vampires, raising undead troops, the evil looks, the background, everything. I love fielding hordes of Skeletons, it's just fascinating, and bringing them back to "life". I've been collecting during many years, but I've really started playing in 7th edition. So, for me... Vampires all the way, my favourite army and the one I chose from the very beginning. Now I have a second army, Daemons of Chaos, I also love them, but that hasn't got anything to do with this thread.
In conclusion: I chose them because they're my favourite and will remain my favourite because there's no cooler army!!!

Yeah ditto vekarin, mines like "Get some decent stuff like new clothes."
She is the stereotipical woman, but she's my mummy who I will always wuv for bringing me into this world (if only I was in the old world though).

Hahah.
Hahahah!

Vekarin is starting to slip. The Perverted One will be much pleased with this, oh yes. :vampire2:

Sorry for the OT, heheh. ;)

Nudity is only perverted if you make it so

when I started my mom told me "don't choose any butt-ugly guys" so I chose Orcs and Goblins
what got me into the vampire counts were actually the Fell bats them and the Ghoul king background

I've read far too many Vampire novels, --real-- novels, not the Blake Emopire and the Cullen boys of Love and glittery wonder. Blech.

I picked Vampires actually third. Sad for me. I wanted to start a Warhammer army back in 05, and I was talking to the local retail owner about Vampires. He convinced me not to, and I want with Dwarves and Ogres. I still have Ogres, but Vampires kept calling to me. Once I bought my first box of skellies (Still 30 more to paint. =/ ) I was hooked. Never looked back.

TK's also appeal to me, they're near Majestic looking on the Tabletop, if painted correctly. Rank and file undead warriors from a forgotten Era that want nothing more to gain revenge on those that woke them, and then sleep once more. It's a wonderful driving force, and one I'm looking at building into, though mine isn't going to be Traditional TK's. Hehe.

And Zombies. I'm a Necrarch-y kinda guy. :D

For me this is a simple question to answer: I already have a TK army.

My TK are a chariot based force (with 16 chariots in it at 2000 points). and my vamps are going to be something rather different.

I used to own Tomb Kings.. And loved the army.. The only problems I had was keeping my army above the halfway point as far as numbers... its just tough to get the raises off in the current local enviroment of 10+ casting dice with 6+ dispel.

Yeah, Tomb Kings fluff-wise are no where near as cool as Vampires, even down to the Warhammer world in general (i almost just spelled it Varhammer....0_0 im becoming one)

It's like, in all honesty, who would really fight the Tomb Kings...ever.....Yeah I mean anyone in the warhammer world can fight anyone else, but seriously its like to imagine an entire army fighting them means some Empire general decided to do something REALLY stupid.

They almost feel like Cathay to me (I'd love to see a Nippon or Cathay army or- OOH CHAOS DWARVES!@?!) but thats how I see it.
