I have been with GW from the very end of WHF 5th to today - and have played but a handful of games of WHF 8th in all those years. So I speak from a mostly theoretical point of view.
Having said that, I am in the minority group of liking 8th edition most of what has come so far. Some things I would change with houserules - easy enough, since I play with close friends, if at all.
6th edition had the amount of content going for it: multiple campaigns, constant WD support, all armies getting proper books (except for DoW and CD), officially supported varaint lists... it was a great time to be a WHF player.
As for TOW? We can but wait and see. If it is great: cool, something new with actual support and whatnot, count me in! If it disappoints... no loss really. I have all rules and army
