Perhaps. But when loving miniatures, were it not better to collect Flames of War or smthing like that than?
I like the combination of skill (learning how and where to aim, how to angle your tank in relation to the enemy, where on each map to go or to sit or not to sit), tactics and teamwork in World of Tanks. Flames of War would give me the strategy and tankyness but not the fun of personally driving my tank around someones flank, shooting them in the back of the turret where the ammo is stored on that particular tank and then ramming some other guy, all in a few seconds with big booming explosions and the rumbling of tank engines blasting out my speakers.
Besides, my itch to assemble and paint model tanks is easily scratched with
40k, especially as I prefer the larger scale and even the design of
40k tanks over flames of war. (Though there are a few historical tanks that are close to my heart that I will eventually get in model form, world of tanks has even strengthened my love for them and helped me discover ones I didn't know about)
Here are some of my favourites- if anyone is interested, see if you can name them all!
As to what Deathless Dreamer said- I read everything that is posted in here. Some users I pay more attention to what they post in here yes (such as Zephy and Shareya) but I am always curious about what is going on in everyones lives- I would even help if possible. It is true I don't often post things in reply to what people say, but that is usually because I don't have anything particularly useful or interesting to say other than condolences or congratulations of some form. People on this forum are generally caring (though there is a bit of a cynical/pessimistic streak that flares up every now and then). Don't take a lack of specific replies to things to be people not caring- you can't know for sure how many people have read something, cared, but just didn't have anything specific to say at the time.
Now, back to the topic of the thread itself-
In recent news, I have gotten my resume together and started applying for jobs. Been pretty broke lately (which is a real shame, I really wanted to buy that new GW Munitorum bag as the bag I usually use to carry stuff has a busted strap that pops out of its socket if it bears any weight, so I have been wearing my backpack on my right shoulder using the left strap which is awkward) so the money from a new job would be really great.
Now, I could probably get my old job at the grocery store back pretty easily, or get a new job at the local supermarkets (my experience, qualifications and references in that area are pretty good now) but I really want to experience some different working environments rather than rinse and repeat the same old job. So I am going to explore some other potential employers first.... if no-one bites, I may even apply for something really serious, like a forklift drivers job (I have heard they have been looking for people to drive forklifts up at barrow island or something, which would pay really well) but I would prefer something that is a bit less pressure (I am not used to big serious jobs like that!).... at least until I get my driver's license and am able to move around more freely.
Apart from the job hunting, the only real changes lately have been moving back in with my parents (which I have mentioned before) and a bigger focus on my hobbies (wasn't really able to pursue my hobby properly while I was moved out as I didn't have the space). I have also slipped up a little bit on my new no drinking rule, but found that if I just have a little bit and make sure it is a few hours before I take my night medication I don't seem to get any nausea this time, so it should be okay so long as I don't get all dependent on vodka again.
On final note, I watched a fantastic documentary today that reminded me why I used to have a very community minded, help everyone and be good philosophy. It even reinforced that old mindset of mine with sound scientific evidence and theory. I have been more selfish and cynical lately due to being fed up with people but now I have sort of remembered why that is a bad thing. The logical, rational way to do things is actually to be what could be called "Morally Good". Being kind, generous, thinking about the needs of others, all of these things are actually good for you, not just in some metaphysical or spiritual way, but in physical, emotional and chemical ways that are demonstrated by science. Being good for goods own sake is a philosophy I believe in strongly once again, which is great, because it has always been a part of who I am, which I feel has been sorely missing in the last year or two.
The biggest problem in the modern day world isn't capitalism or pollution or violence or bullying or computer addiction or whatever it is people rant on about- those are all just a symptom of a single underlying problem that plagues humanity- the ever growing emphasis on putting the individuals wants above the needs of the community, and the ever growing separation of individuals. Note that by separation of individuals, I am not talking about technology or modern life putting distance between people- I am talking more about the separation of individuals into distinct units who are entirely out for themselves and competing with every other individual for everything, when they should all be part of the community, working together to try and provide for and better the entire community.
Now I generally get figurative rocks thrown at me for this on CN, but I figure Jesus Christ, no matter what your stance on his origins or divinity, had a good point when he said to Love everyone, including your enemy. Every time someone consciously decides they are going to at least try to strive for that goal, to have compassion for everyone, the world gets a little bit better.
.... wow, apologies for the walls of text guys! I promise the next time I post in here it should be a lot more fun and a lot less text. I might post a picture of me wearing a silly hat or something.
