So just idea I wanted to throw out there, what if in a 2500-3000 point game you have 5 wight kings on the front rank of a bus of black knights,
They'd have banner of burrows, on of the white kings would have banner of swiftness as the bsb. So movement would be ethereal and 9 inches. They'd have 2+ save on great toughness. Very expensive though. The unit would be just shy of 1000 points. Would any of you try this for fun?

3K Wight King Bus:

WK SS, Barding, Shield, Lance
WK SS, Barding, Shield, Lance

RARE - 410 pts

Okay I know this list is ludacrious but gawddamnit is it funny :D
The idea is to have the two buses ride side by side with the VL's(yeah plural :D ) in the KotBK and the WK's in the Black Knight Bus. The VL has lore of beasts so that he can bubble spam Pann's Impenetrable Pelt, Wyssan's Wildform and Savage Beast of Horros.

I really do want to try something like this. Even if you fail to cast beast spells on them they are insanely tough. The front rank anyway. Plus loads of killing blow. I think this unit could take on chaos warrior horde. That's saying something, seeing how there would be no blender vampire to lean on.

Regardless of how offensively beefy a Wight wall can be, you're still not going to want to run them into a Horde of Chaos Warriors or anything that hits that hard and that fast. You will lose guys before you swing. That said, the Wight wall might have some potential, but I think we need to look at opportunity cost - what had to stay home in order to accommodate it? Was it worth it?

This. You can bring two vampire heroes (maybe three!) with Red Fury and half decent gear for the same price. Sure, they have lower toughness and fewer wounds, but they have better weapon skill, strength, and initiative. They're just as likely to die, but they'll do a ton of damage first and that's what counts.

I'm going to keep defending the wight wall. Even though blender lord and buss is much more worth the points spent. I just like the idea. Like their movement is fantastic, and with ethereal movement. You could score a flank charge almost as well as fast caverly. And I think there is potential with different magic item combos, night shroud on one WK and a flank to WoC horde, they wouldnt get many attacks back, with 20 strength 6 killing blow hit on 3+ attacks is nothing to frown at. Again I know it's not cost effective as other strategies. But I bet no ones going to expect a unit like this.

Hey, let's be honest: this unit isn't for tournament play, and that's quite alright. It sounds like a unit that's fun to play, and that's really all that counts.

For me, though, the fun lies with running as many vampires in my army as I can fit. :vampire3:

Drop the 6 KotBK and get a few more points to fit in 2 TG's. For an idea like this to work, you need target saturation. Give them enemy more fast moving, dangerous threats to force him/her to make tough decisions (and so that you have more options in case the bus gets bogged down).

Ah, yes, forgive me, I was distracted by work.

Consider taking a second unit of black knights. They will be greater in number, easier to raise, have the ability to take the flame banner and make the list even more unique. 6 KotBK can be ground down fairly easily.

If you run this, I think you have to keep 'em as cheap as possible. One of them with a Great Weapon only sets you back 90 points, which is a heck of a deal for a S6, 3-Wound, T5 model.

I like Sen's idea(no I'm not flirting :D ) about running the VL's in a Black Knight bus instead... But I might just be a sentimental Bretonnian player.

@ Johnny: Bah! Real knights don't soil their boots walking side by side with the peasant rabble! (As a Bret player you should know this Johnobi). Although your idea might be more optimized :)

Can't say I'm a fan of the mounted Wight wall - unlike Brets, you have to adhere to normal ranks (so you need 2 more Wight Kings to cover the front than you would for a Lance), it's harder to get the Beast spells that make this strategy awesome, and it's quite a bit more points spent on Heroes (114ppm as opposed to 90ppm on foot).

I like this idea as it allows you to field character support for your Black Knights in the form of a Wight King, without losing there Ethereal Special Movement. I don't think I would go with that many Wight kings, but One or Two in a small unit would give you a Very Mobile Cav unit that could exploit the terrain to your advantage.

Sun king, I promise to try this out soon, just for you. Stat line wise it's basically 5 crypt horrors with a smaller front, 50% more movement and a 2+ armor save. Yeah yeah it's 2-3,times the price. I do realize this.

Unless you're playing on a table setup like a 40k scenario, I don't see the ethereal movement being THAT big of a deal. It's not like flying where u can go over people.

I'd rather have crazy amounts of CHs, but as everyone stated, and I agree... It would be hella fun to give it a whirl :)
