Hello all. I am new to these forums. I currently play Tomb Kings and you can find me on the khemeri forums over there at same name.

I been tossing around a idea for Vampire Counts, as I wanted to play one of the undead armies, and I am realizing that Tomb Kings while I love the Egyptian theme is not really the play style I wanted. Where as Vampire Counts are designed to bring characters into close combat, and do so very well.

Here is my idea and I needed some help and to figure out ideas of what would work as different Vampire Units, using Wood Elf bits and parts. If this idea seems familiar it comes from WD 309 October 2005.

Here is the list of what I figured would work. With drilling, green stuff, and using vampire bits, and even the skeleton parts from the Tomb King infantry.

Let me know about any feedback on this. Will be a slower project for me, as I want to make the conversions look spectacular. I will even post updates as it starts to come along.

Once I get a general idea of where to go with the army. I will try to design the army around it. As I see I can't go wrong with some boxes of zombies, dryads, and glade guard to begin with. As I will need lots of zombies anyways.

I hope I get a lot of responses to help me fill out the gaps.

Characters: Well these would be different Wood elf character models or just from the plastic kits, made to stand out more, especially during the painting.

Core:

Ghouls: Dryads

Zombies: Glade guard, with zombie kit bash

Skeletons: Glade guard, with skeleton kit bash, and possibly dark elf or high elf shields. I got a lot of unused spears though.

Dire Wolves: I really could not think of anything here. Just use the vampire wolves. Figured woods have wolves anyways.

Special:

Bat Swarm: The little sprites of the glade guard and dryad bits, might work. Probably just forget these.

Black Knights: Glade Riders. I think these will work best, and then with the dark elf or high elf shields. Would take some remolding though as they have bows.

Corpse Cart: I am drawing a blank on this. Might just replace the models with wood elf parts. The unit seems very interesting to use.

Crypt Horrors: Wood Elf treekin for these

Fell Bats: The wood elf war eagles with some modding would work well I think.

Grave Guard: This one I was thinking eternal guard, and switch around weapons for how the unit was equipped. They are the most heavily armored wood elf infantry I am seeing.

Hexwraiths: Back to Glade riders or Wind riders.

Spirit Hosts: Got a few ideas on this. Dryads, and or glade guard, to look disembodied.

Varghiest: Drawing a blank hear.

Rare:

Black Coach: No idea.

Blood Knights: The wood elf calvary again. Would want to make look more armored though.

Carin Wraith: I am sure one of the wood elf characters make a great one.

Mortis Engine: Nothing in the wood elf line would make sense. So would need wood elf bits on it.

Terrorghist: This one I thought about the treekin the big one. Then I was why not the green dragon, just don't use the character models. Then make them banshees or something.

Vargulf: No idea.

@Sume: Welcome. I like your idea, wood elves being my second favourite army after VC  Dryad bits combine well with zombie and ghoul bits too as I have done some of these. If you are open to non GW models then Mantic make some great looking and affordable zombies and ghouls which combine well with GW bits and pieces.

Good luck, I look forward to seeing you undead horde grow ;)

Vargheists: Warhawk riders or the old war eagles since they are larger.

'Ghulf: Great Stag. Use some dryad branches to embellish the horns to make the model bigger. Mount it on a rock formation made from cork. The current great eagle is an option although I'd modify it so it
doesn't look so airborne.

Coach: WE used to have chariots back in 4th or 5th. You could use a tiranoc chariot for this by making it more wood elfy.

Wovles: If you want to spend a ton of cash, bitz order Orion's hounds.

A couple things here. First, I love the idea. Second, once you get your answers here, definitely start a paint log in the The Dead Shall Walk board! I'd love to see your army take shape. Third, check out Johnny-Crass's rundown of the VC book in the Teachings Of Abhorash board. It's a great guide for new players.

Welcome to the forum and I look forward to your work!

Welcome to our cold darkened crypt Sume! It can be significant change from the burning sands of Khemri, but from your army ideas I would say you are handling it more than well ;) Looking forward to see your work(btw. don't hesitate to post some shots of your TK as well :) )

And some of my suggestions:

Dire wolves: I would suggest using Fenrisian wolves from WH40k, they are really nice models

Spirit host: Check here what Mad 'At did: https://www.vampirecounts.net/Thread-The-Undead-Legion-of-Countess-Ludmila-von-Carstein?page=4

Thank you guys. I am still at the planning stage here. I did get a chance to look at the run down of the book forum post. I take it there are several themes this army can do. Magic heavy, with mix of lores, character death star heavy, zombie horde, a banshee leadership bomb, and monster mash. These are things that just came to mind looking through that.

I don't have the actual book handy with me. I was borrowing it from a friend. The theme I did want to go with was a more infantry with vampire support, and one or two necromancers in the back, providing vampire magics. While using most likely lore of metal, My meta gaming area you see a lot of heavy armor armies, dwarves, bretianions, empire knights with cannon support, and warriors of chaos.

So far my thoughts of a army is a ghoul horde, 40ish block of gravegard, a hammer of black knights, one or two terroghists. With some spirit hosts, bats, and hexwraiths. Not sure on the hexwraiths though. I really like the idea, and want to make sure I got enough trash drops. I figured zombie bunker or two in the back for a pair of necromancers, and vampire support for each of my three units I really want to get into CC. I also like the idea of the cairn wraith, and banshee leadership bomb. I am sure these ideas are best put in the army discussion. I am just trying to get some ideas of a direction, then write some army lists up for review. My plan is to buy into this, and then add more later.

Reaper, you are right about those spirit hosts, they almost look exactly like the ones in the old White Dwarf I was looking through that brought this idea to my mind again. I like the wood elf line, for the most part, but not the actual army book. So I figured as I do want to play undead, and I really got to like the models to paint. Why not combine the wood elf miniatures with a vampire theme.

I am not sure about the rules of posting pictures of different armies here. This is my painting log over at the khemeri forums. If you look at the first pictures you can tell I was relearning to paint. As I did not paint for nearly 7 years. This will probably give you guys more a direction of what I plan to do with these models.

These are really nice models you have there

About posting pics of other minis - we want to see everything! :D Seriously, just start PLOG in Dead shall walk section and put there everything you paint. Or some people prefer to start several PLOGs, one for each army. It is up to you what you choose.

Btw. You can take a look at 60.000pts undead PLOG in Dead shall walk - strigoi85 is currently working on LED lighted Sphinxes for Tomb kings army. I just thought it might interest you ;)

I think I seen the sphinx's on the khemeri forums. Ya I was not sure about the other army thing. As I am also a member of Bolter and Chainsword and they are strict about it. I also have most of a 1950 Sisters of Battle army, that is in stages of being painted. My local meta doesn't like the double force chart for 2000 points, after I proxed 4 exorcist tanks. As I own two. Those I need to get some pictures off. As if you like my Tomb Kings, my sisters are looking even better.

Hi! Very cool idea, you have with this army here.

check out the 'preyton' from forgeworld, this would make a good woodelf varghulf. its basically a corrupted stag, with wings.
I bought it to use as an AT, but It's too small for that, and will now be a varghulf in my army., the size is about the same, scalewise. and it comes with 50 mm base.
then you have the smaller greatstag to use as MI instead.

Hi guys. I am hoping to be able to start this project here in the next month or so. I will post some pictures as they come along.
