So I looked around for a bit and could find a thread about this.

I was wondering if you guys have themed your army or will build your army around a specific theme when the new book comes out. I started playing VC when the Army of Sylvania was available during Storm of Chaos. I based it largely on an article (Olde Wierde or something like that) in WD on the Sylvanian army during Vlad's reign and pieces of fluff here and there. The WD article had a lot of drawings of the old Sylvanian state army. Colours (black, red and purple), banners, unit names, scratched away Sigmar-symbols and such. It was a good read.

So my skeletons all have Empire shields, my zombies are mixed with state troops and militia, wight greatswords as Drakenhof Guard and lots of wolves and bats. Also, I can't use ghouls since the great land of Sylvania became ghoul-free when Manfred hunted most of them down and sold them to the Skaven. It's not based on a specific time line, it's just the Army of Sylvania how I imagine it.

Eventually I want to get a Sylvanian Empire army from the times of the von Draks. Which means mostly militia, ragtag soldiers and no gunpowder or engineers.

Mine is an autumn themed wood elf force centered around a Wardancer Troupe joining the Wild Hunt. I'm still working on the fluff (during English classes :D ), so I can't be any more specific than that. :(

Cheers, Wolfie

This is going to sound pretty dumb but I don't have a set theme, I simply have a pooled force I have which I created themed lists from. For example, if I want a necromantic horde I go heavy on core infantry and this is not something which is going to change over time. Its just new models means new potential themes for my lists.

I think that will by my plan too, Voltaire.

I'm intending to have two main characters (generals) who I'll use depending on how I'm feeling.

The first will be a Vampire. I have a character history worked out. I want him to be an anonymous figure in Warhammer history. He started as a beggar in a village in the Border Princes, became an artist and is now a vampire. He is a solitary figure. He had no vampire mentor, so all he knows about the condition is what he has learned himself. He has dominated an isolated stretch of land in the Border Princes and spends his time in his castle, creating dark works of art... and probably doing things like sitting on gargoyles, brooding in the rain.

He is a "neutral" figure - someone who will protect the nervous peasants who live under his distant rule no matter the cost to himself - yet at the same time, he is someone who will think nothing of raising their dead families to fight for him.

To that end (similar to you, Alskiyevskij) I want a Sylvanian-type army made up of militia and peasants. Kind of an undead "garrison" army - he doesn't go out conquering, but instead sits in his own territory.

My second theme will be - Lovecraft! Fluffwise it will be led by a normal human (i.e. necromancer). This will be much more of a "mad scientist" kind of army. Lots of constructs and test subjects! I have plans for flesh golems instead of ghouls, and lots of zombies.

And since its Lovecraftian, I will have to work in tentacles, of course.

All of my newer armies have themes. My high Elves are Caledor themed (thus all the Dragon Princes and the Dragon) while I am leaning more towards a bestial Strigoi themed VC list.
I mentioned it in the MSU thread, but I am going for lots of ghouls, bats and strigoi-ish characters, with my hammers coming in the form of a pair of Varghulfs. I was also trying to come up with some ideas for more feral looking KotBK. Came up cold though, so if anybody has any thoughts I'm open to suggestion.

Cheers,

G

My Army theme is somewhat of a mix of Blood Dragon and Strigoi because my vampire is an outcast, but still retains parts of his former existance as a mortal.

I love themed armies, though not in the way most people theme theirs.

I used to have an all goblin army based on the postal service - though it now has orcs in it since the new book - the United Greenskin Postal Service. (Units like UPS Boyz (all in brown shorts), Da Mailboxes (black orcs in dark blue armor with the white eagle on them), Web Mail (spider riders), Gobbo Express (wolf riders), Philatelists (stamp collectors - night goblins with stamps for shields), Snail mail (night goblins with sea shells for shields and spear tips), Air Mail (spear chuckas), and Undeliverable the Giant. Pics here.

My new VC army is the Grateful Undead. Dancing Skeletons in top hats & tails. Big units of tie-dyed deadheads (zombies), possibly holding up lighters. Roadies (ghouls). Groupies (banshee w/ wraiths). Dancing Teddy bears (dire wolves). And the characters will be musicians (with the general being Jerry Garcia, of course). WIP pics in my painting blog and here.

My ogres (The Fireeaters Tribe) never got as good of a theme - they just all have the same tatoos. Pics of them are here

I havnt really themed any of my fantasy armies I just like going into alot of detail with my characters backgrounds. I designed A Orc Warboss afew months back "Ugrot Umie eata" using lots of ogre parts to make him really fat. He even had a empire soldiers leg hanging out his mouth.

Perhaps I needn't say this, but I'm basing my VC army on Halloween:mrgreen: Lotsa Pumpkin-headed Zombies, Trick-or-Treating Zombie Kids, Witches with broomsticks... Only just started it though, so I still have a lot to think of and to convert and paint.

Think Resident Evil 1-3(not the silly RE4 game or the movies). Then add a mature Tim Burton-esque theme to it. So if you think Nightmare before Christmas and such you´re way way off, think more like Sweeney Todd and you got a better idea.
Then! Add a Predator-like Vampire. Wont be an exact copy beacause I want him to look like he belong in the WH world but he will be clearly visible as my favourite movie(and game) alien!

Just need to finish my Varghulf. Then under the hunters moon the warhammer world shall experience the hunt!... or something like that.

I was thinking about starting a high elf army with the release of the new book and all, i was going to make them Blood Elves like in Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne.. i think it would look quite cool,

My army is themed around a Tomb Kings based Lahmian.

This is one of my skelies, my army will look like a tomb king army untill I get my vampire mini, and other vampireish things

I've written a background story, but here's a quick resume.

The general of my army is a former Tilean noblewoman, Baroness Angelica von Carstein. She was sired by Konrad (sounds daft here, but looks way better in the story) and is now planning to invade Tilea.

The theme of my troops is an armoured, religious force. We killed of an army of crusaders and raised them, so everything has a gorgeous medieval look with black tabards and white crosses. The commander of the crusaders is now one of my Thralls as well.

So well.. Gunpowder, rapiers, gypsies, crusaders, night gobbo death cultists and zombies who rape each other. All served with a Dracula-cape. That's my army.

Skeletons = Men-at-arms with skeletal hands and heads, with helmets.
Knights = Knights of the Realm with skeletal parts.

Ah My VCs are more simple then everything else here.
Just a blood dragon army. Mainly its a dead Empire Force, as I used a lot of current Empire soldiers to mix with my zombies, and the Empire Knights to make by Black Knights. My Nercos are Empire Wizards gone bad, as well as my thralls (great swords unit champion).
The colour scheme is that of the Empire Region of Talabheim. So half red half white uniforms on some of my zombies. The rest are mindless poor people. Not much of a difference between the poor and the dead really...

goblin theme vampire force, with a (currently before the new book changes stuff) blood dragon gobbo, skeleton gobbos, zombie gobbos, snotling batswarms, wolf rider black knights, night gobbo grave guard, and snotling banshees. hopefully it won't change too much with the new book...

Hello,
My own army theme is that of Sylvania, with heraldry of Red, Black, and Purple, the Banner of Drakenhof flys high in my regiment of Grave Guard and with the release of 7th Edition Vampire Counts, my army will reflect its origin even more so through its appearance on the tabletop.

Howdy!
My army is a undeadarmy from the region of Hochland, with a blood dragon as the general. Im trying to write some fluff about it, but its a slow painfull process. But it involves a questing knight turned into a vampire who instead of drinking his own peoples blood ventures into the empire, both to "feed" and to find and kill the vampire that made him into one. Its a long story. :P

The pictures is on my painting log.

Whu? That was my idea!

Fro rly?

Mine are Empire rarther than your bretts. But i took the ideas from all the religious fools there are today. And thought that if its bad now, in a world based on a medival period is must be awful. Im gonna use undead warrior priests for my Wights which should be fun.

I think I want to make some kind of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Liche King army.
Lots of Necromancers converted to floating liches, magic heavy vampire used as liche king, lots of ethereal units, skeletons and zombies. And maybe use some Arthaslike dreadknight as a varghulf...?

im setting my army around an assassins theme so using clokes etc when i can (d.e assassins for lords, skaven nightrunners for zombies converted ofcourse etc) using special rules like killing blow and poisond attacks etc thier will have to be alot of straying of the assassin idea to make a good army but ill do my best

I know that it's a bit of a stretch fluff wise but I like the way the Chaos Horde army looks. I am drawn to the Blood Dragon style, both combat and heavy armor so I am going to try to convert what I can. I am a ways off from getting my book but that's the way my gut is leaning.

Lots of compelling ideas in this thread.
