Hi!

I'm new to this site so apologies in advance, but I require some help with my AoS army and I'd gladly appreciate it. xD

As said in the title, I am finding it impossible to decide between the Vampire Lord on ZD and the Ghoul King on TG. I've had very little aid from most sites that I've visited, so I was hoping someone here may be able to provide some insight.

The two are mainly described as being either combat(ZD) and support(TG), but frankly I don't know which I will need more of in my army. At the moment, I have a very mixed force because all the models were bought before AoS actually came out. I feel like the Terrorgheist would be useful in both combat and support due to the command ability of my Ghoul King that I have on foot, allowing a +1 to hit and wound. On the other hand, I generally play against high bravery armies, meaning the death shriek loses its power quickly.

The Dragon is also appealing as I like having the extra attacks and a 3+ save with a shield, but I believe the breath weapon to be inferior to the shriek. The Blood Boil spell is certainly going to be more effective than the Grave Call too.

As for the regeneration of wounds, I'm unsure which is more effective: the Chalice and the Hunger or the Bound by Necromancy abilities. The TG is definitely better almost than the ZD is, so I'd rather summon that, however I currently have no powerful wizards.

Any and all help would be great!

Depends on the synergy with the rest of your army GK makes flesh eaters really good. If you have lots of them then bring him.

Thanks for the replies!

My army is as follows:

1x Vamp Lord/Konrad von Carstein
3x Vargheists

1x Necromancer

20x Zombies
1x Corpse Cart

1x Wight King with Baleful Tomb Blade
40x Skeletons

1x Ghoul King
20x Crypt Ghouls

2x Cairn Wraith
1x Tomb Banshee
5x Hexwraiths

As I said, it's very mixed, but I do like the connections between the Flesh-Eater Courts since they connect so well in my opinion thanks to the GK's command ability and spell. Hopefully this can help you help me! xD

@Konbad von Tarstain While i personally haven't got neither a ZD nor a TG with your current setup your hard hitting units are ghouls and vargheists, both of which are glass cannons.

the ZD command ability can be used on any death unit. thus your whole army can benefit from it, and the ZD is a better fighter and more durable. It would be better to engage the enemy with the ZD then support him with vargheists (since they can fly and have 12 movement).

the TG on the other hand has a sick spell to buff your ghouls and a command ability to run and charge with them. Which means you'll be healing your ghouls and getting them in combat much earlier. His shriek is also good and if you plan or manage to get your hands on a skull catapult and /or a casket of souls this would be much better since both of those units debuff the enemy's bravery.

So In my opinion :
if you want an all rounder unit which hits hard, survives more and can buff anyone go for ZD. (with your current setup i suggest this)
if you plan of focusing on flesh eaters and/or a shrieking army with more banshees and possibly the units i mentioned to debuff the enemy's bravery then TG is the way to go.

EDIT: i just noticed the casket of souls doesn't debuff the bravery only the catapult does that. but it deals more dmg to low bravery units.

I plan to build and use one of them later this week, so from what you're saying it will likely be the ZD, especially if a combo with the Vargheists could kill a Stardrake, however I'd like to know if a Flesh-Eater army would be the way to go instead. I'm considering either buying more Crypt Ghouls (and Horrors or Vargulf possibly!) or a unit like Grave Guard. Could I have lots of success with the Flesh-Eaters, or do I go down a different path based on my current army? (I'm sceptical about that shriek since I tend to come up against high bravery units)

Sorry for pestering you and thanks again for your help!

@Konbad von Tarstain anytime =] we're here to help.

It all depends on what you're facing and your play style really. ghouls tend to hit hard and run but the die fast too. with crypt horrors protecting them and a varghulf they might do way better. If you face a lot of shooting armies i suggest you get units with armour and those banners to resurrect warriors. if you face armies with a lot of rend and dmg like ogres i suggest you try ethereals to ignore their rend and 4+ save on every unit. I haven't used much flesh eaters myself but i guess they would be great against slow units and units in large numbers since a unit of 20 can have 20x3 attacks with 2 dmg on 6s.

Great! Thank you very much :)

The Abhorrant on Tgheist can cast the spell on HIMSELF, making him a 4+/5+ who also heals D3 every phase, which is straight cray. The scream is cute. Promote use of terrain since you can get sinister terrain and lower bravery. But the scream is just a nice touch before swooping in and devouring anything and everything with his freaking gaping fanged maw of complete death. His command ability is frusterating if you dont use summoning though.

Zombie Dragon has the same maw but without the gaping rule. honestly they are very similar so take what you like. Note that the lord on dragon has less maw attacks, but instead has the chalice, the blood boil spell and the powerful command ability. Hes more generic if you just want to use a mixed army. I would want to use whatever is cheapest in the new point system.

Flesh Eater Court gets a lot of love from GW at the moment so I would go with the T-bat as it has great synergy with many of the new rules that comes out. But as others have said, it is a close tie between the two. If you don't go for Flesheater synergy then the Zombie Dragon is the better, IMO, as it has best stand-alone abilities.
