Ah, my mistake; I had intended statistically, rather than size wise. I like the idea of having the tentacles separate, though it does - in my mind - rule out using the Kraken as a mount. Not necessarily a bad thing.

I have an idea, the siren could be the unit champion

Souls of the Damned
These sailors where damned to sail the sees for ever, there bodies have rotted away and fallen to the deep, now only there souls remain carrying a ghoustly image of the weapons they used to carry.

I'm thinking; skirmishing, handguns (2x multiple shot) but bullets can't kill and enemy but ignore armour for each would they could have caused the enemy lose a point of Ld for so long, and th ethereal rule od course.

Having the tentacles seperate from the body would be...interesting. Not sure how it'd look though-a body and tentacles moving throguh the ground, it'd be like some strange burrowing kraken.-if the tentacles were to come straight out the ground.
The main problem i see wit hthe kraken and sea serpent is the fact they swim...and battles take place on land. While i acknowlegde the fact it would be possible for such creatures to crawl out of water, I dont think they'd be able to move very fast-or do anything very useful.
Its a cool idea to have these big monsters, but unless the battles take place at sea I don't think they're gonig to look quite right.

I don't like these. Too much like Wraiths.

Sorry for the double post, but then again I do mod this forum, so I can do what I like  (with DoNs permission. I don't want to speak about the last time I disobeyd him... :silent: )

Anyway, I think we are just about finished discussing what units to include. Time for a summary.

Kraken- big squidy thing, possibly with seperate tenacles (do be develpoed later)

Sea Serpant- big snakey thing.

Ghost Ship- maybe flying and/or Ethereal (again to be discussed in more depth later

Siren- ghosly lady that lures young lads to their doom.

I think this is enough Rare choices for the minute. Four seems to be the standard for most armies.

I think 5 is fine for now, a spare incase one falls though in deveolpment if you like...

The siren could be made a character if nesseccary without too much difficulty imo.

We do need another lord level special character, according to the list... maybe have either the Siren or the Queen Bess fill that roll? Though I dread to think what a lord level special character cannon would be capable of...

Well I like the idea of the eternal ghost ship as a mount for a hero perhaps a Davey Jones character...:wow2: but I also like the undead kraken too and the cannon is a must.

I'm still not totally sold on the idea of a ghost ship - to be historically accurate, the smallest ship I've found (with actual dimensions in the Wikipedia article) is the Brig, which is still roughly equivalent to thirty 20mm bases in length, assuming that a zombie is the scale of five feet tall and would cover two bases if lying down. That's a mighty terrain piece, and not particularly feasible, in my mind, as an actual unit in most games. That's not taking into account Wikipedia's claim that each would mount between 10 and 18 cannons.

Now, I'm not saying I don't like the idea - the image is awesome, and I certainly would like to see it used in special scenarios or as part of a smaller scale army (Warmaster is the tiny version of Warhammer, right?). I just don't feel it would be done justice by slapping it in to this particular army.

We can make the ship smaller, yes, and then it becomes (in my mind, at least) little more than a rare version of a Wreck with ghostly movement. It doesn't really fit with the image of a flying ethereal pirate ship; at least, not to me.

Anywho, I've voiced my opinion. As I'm outnumbered on this point, I need not waste everyone's time by continuing to argue against it. It's not like I have to use it in my Zombie Pirates army, after all.

How i feel about all the rare choices
Its just all very sea themed isn't it-if you dont liek the sea then your stuffed! I like the zombies, rather than the other randoms in the list! :zombie1:

The problem is we can only do so many things with Zombies...

Its not like you can't model Zombies onto the Ghost Ship, and the Bess will be crewed by them.

Also, it has to be sea themed. Its Zombie PIRATES. Yargh

yep i understand that. Its just to me most of the current rare choices would only make sense if the battle took place at sea-giant ships, sea serpents and Kraken; all are much more 'at home' in the sea. Its like thinking of a fish out of water or making an eagle fight in the ocean...its just not natural.

...not natural
...and zombies are toally natural aren't they-someone tell me what the hell i'm going on about! :zombie1:

Ok, to be fair then Uga Bug - what would you suggest as rares then?

I have just thought of this - but perhaps we could make the Kraken and Serpent zombie versions? Then they fit the sea and the zombie theme xd

Also, I might be with Keldane on the ship. You're not going to do it justice unless you do it full size..........which would be OP....

Yeah, there was something similar to the Zombie creatures in the original list called the rotting leviathan. Maybe if we continue this idea.

As I have said before, octopuses can move around on land. These undeadified sea creatures can simply drag themselves ashore. Being a pirate army, all battles will be fought close to shore anyway.
Also, we could also imagine that as the zombie pirates advance, so does the tide itself, turning the ground into a coastal swamp. (hence the adding of water features and stuff)
On a final note, look at devos cthulu VC army. It has tentically stuff pulling boats and it looks fine, he simply did water effects.

Undead versions of the Kraken and sea serpent you say...suddenly i'm more interested :)

I just wanted to clarify whether we was having undead versions or not

From reading back throguh the posts it seems its never been adressed whether these monsters were undead or not...I assumed they were not, but now that Sanai has mentioned it i think it'd be a great idea.

And on the 8th day, LoR said "Let there be undead monsters. Let them drag their bloated and rotten corpes ashore with their many tentacles. Let them ravage the armies of the living land lubbers."

And LoR looked down upon his creations and saw they were good.

Anyway, I think the monsters should be undead. I would assume that the spell doesnt just animate sailors, so it would work on Krakens that die off the Vampire Coats as well.
