the book and spirit are probably attached to their arm bits
The book is mostly separate. There is a slot for it to attach to the forearm, but that can be filled easily enough.

Both the staff and the wielded version of the sword have the left hand as part of the sculpt.

I have to wonder why Nagash has a copy of the Liber Mortis when it's an abridged version of the Nine Books.

Is any of this new stuff going to be tournament official? I can't see the ETC allowing any of these rules or characters into their tournaments. Nor do I see them being used by all the other TO's around the world.

Since the vast majority of tournaments have points limits of 2500 or less, it may be moot aside from the lore of Undeath (since the cheapest character is 650 points so far as we know). I doubt any of the characters will be allowed at tournaments regardless. The army of undeath and lore of undeath are a different matter, and I cannot see anything super broken in either at the moment, although the thought of wood elves or high elves raising undead troops seems a bit extreme.

Well that is why they've raised the Lord and hero allowance to max 50%.. So it will be doable even in a 2400 game. For now I think most turneys will play it off as an expansion, but maybe when all the books come out they will have to. And what ever carries over to the 9th they'll have to allow.

Has anyone ever sieged the "Skaven HQ"? Skavenblight I believe it's called? From what I can remember it sounded impossible to attack for multiple reasons. Or to successfully attack.

EDIT: I guess it used to be a human/dwarf settlement, so there should be plenty of angry souls there..

Skavenblight is in the middle of a swamp, so no.

Ah, so that would explain the rumored rules for underground fighting.

It also puts a possible interesting context to the Skaven invasion of Tilea and Estalia. Skavenblight is beneath Tilea. With forces invading Skavenblight in search of the Fellblade, it wouldn't make a lot of sense for the Skaven to decide to start an offensive while their capital is vulnerable. If Skavenblight were to be destroyed and a large number forced above ground and cut off from the tunnel system, I could see that breaking out into large scale fighting against the Tileans.

Is it weird that I'm way more saddened by the possible destruction of Skavenblight than I am concerning Kislev and the rest of the northern Empire that's to be razed?

Skavenblight is in a swamp in north eastern telia, not under telia. the underway does spread through telia though.

ooh pretty...

if the tournament uses the "expansion" rules, then yes.

Skavenblight is old Kavzar, which was inhabited by men (above ground) and dwarfs (below ground). Based on their secrecy and agoraphobia, I'd say it's safe to assume the majority of skaven activity (and 100% of home-dwelling) at Skavenblight occurs underground.

True, i always imagined the first level below ground to be the busiest though, with markets and such.

That, I'd say, would depend on how deep most of the main tunnels are -- tunnels in the Underempire would be similar to waterways in most civilizations with commerce centralizing around it.

This is just guesswork, but I feel like depth underground would go hand-in-hand with a skaven's rank and station in skaven society. It's either in one of Thanquol's appearances in the Gotrek & Felix books or in his own books, but at one point Thanquol is punished by being put into a large chamber where the roof had been decorated by the dwarfs with gems to simulate the night sky and its effect is torturous to the skaven psyche. This leads me to the thought that those with power (and items of importance) would be as far down from those terrible open spaces above as possible and kinda twists the lead from behind approach into lead from below when concerning their civilization.

True, but then we are dealing with weight, tunnel collapse, the fact that the tower is an analog for piza :P

Wallach being mentioned, only to just be written out is so far the only thing that's bugged me about the End Times. Given that the Blood Dragons, those of Blood Keep particularly, look for worthy foes to best, I would think helping to go toe to toe against Archaeon's horde would be right up his alley.

With regard to Mannfred seeking the Fellblade, that raises some interesting speculation. Is it just so that he can ensure nobody can vanquish Nagash, or is it perhaps a contingency plan for himself once Nagash has dealt with the chaos horde?

Black host, army of sternieste and host of the silver pinnacle boxed sets! Looking forward to how they vary the themes.of the army. Clearly mannys army (sternieste) will be vc focused but i wonder how arkhans and neffys armies Will be differentiated.

Where has this come from? I can't find any information on it.
And where does that leave the blood knights, crying in blood keep? :(

While true, when the Bell tolled the whole city was swallowed by the march and mountains around it and is entirely underground. The thing that always stuns me is the populations of Skaven settlements, for example the Skaven hold of Under Altdorf out numbers the population of the Empires greatest city and its not even a major settlement. Fell Blade is going to end up in Valtan's hands at some point so he can duel will it with the Hammer of Sigmar...

obviously each led by a mortarch.

obviously each led by a mortarch.

I wonder though... each army contains around 40 models and is 100quid. At those prices will they include the actual mortarch generals?.

Apparently one of the evy metal team was in at my.local store. they've spent the last eighteen months painting the models and he said "you haven't seen anything yet... wait till you see what's still to.come out"...

@Mioum : Hmm I see, that is a little annoying imo. I would have preferred the character to have rules and the mount he/she is on to have rules as well so that it works like other mounted characters in Warhammer. That could have easily been done because you just put in the profile that the character is mounted on ____ creature, no big deal. Seems like they took a shortcut.

Well, many believe that this is a preview of how character on big mount will work in 9th edition. A single combined profile is definitely interesting.

Does that mean Krell is mounted now? He has been changed to a mortarch. Or do you just mean for the new releases?

No, Krell and Vlad are indeed Mortarch (those are Nagash 9 generals), but aren't mounted on anything I believe. Only the 3 from the kit got the new mount, the other two seems to have brand new profile/rules (we haven't seen them yet), but no mount.

Where has this come from? I can't find any information on it.

Those set are featured in next week White Dwarf. You can see the pics and content here ; http://grotorderly.blogspot.de/2014/08/white-dwarf-31-wycieki-leaks.html

I looked at the price, and each set saves you about 10% if you were to buy them separately if I remember, so it's nice for that :) The box with 3 Mortarch kit however doesn't save you any money :(

I honestly I can't wait. I think we are in for one hell of a release schedule. The best hype GW has given, to me, in the last 6 years. why? because it actually made me buy something from them.

I don't think I'll be getting any of the army releases. They don't seem particularly coherent, something I was worrying about slogging TK and VC together, but also in terms of units. Plus none of them are really suitable as extensions to what I have already. 2x TK Battalians would be much more appropriate for undeath raising.

My main bulk troops will be from mantic. I will probably expand my tomb guard, but i will have mantic revenants sit in for them if need be. I may buy a mortarch kit, but Nagash is enough spent for now.

@Mioum some of the pictures in the link are unavailable. Does anyone know what comes after Manny&friends? It should say "NEXT WEK: ..." somewhere

Sorry, I looked at them yesterday and they were all there I believe, or I didn't pay attention to the few not showing. I don't remember what it was for the 'next week" anyway. What I know is that the Spirit Host kit have yet to be released. Since the Spirit are not this week with Nagash or the next with the Mortarch, the third week will also be about the VC/campaign.
