Christ almighty. Never knew that sort of thing went on at tournaments!
I would like it if they released the war scrolls in physical form, I'm not to keen on only having them digital. I'm aware I could print them off just lazy I guess.

Its not that its lazy, everyone loves the feel of a good quality book, I've had a pdf version of some rules/games/army books before but its just not right. But then I did sell 200 of my fantasy books, buy a kindle then regret it and rebuy a ton more books.

I'm both a massive computer/tablet/phone nerd and a lover of good old fashioned books.

Yeah, I might wait a while, but I'll be going to Staples/kinkos to get them printed nicely and bound I'm sure. If at all. Not sure how many players there will be around my FLGS after everything has settled.

Shockingly, in person most opinions I've heard are rather positive for AoS, in stark contrast with what I've seen online. But it's kind of that whole Vocal Minority thing, I'm sure the people on forums are a bit more invested in the game than not.

You can keep whining and whining or you can enjoy it. You can be bitter and consumed by cynicism, or you can enjoy AoS. You don't have to keep whining about it.

Also the only reason these forums are filled with people whinging about AoS is because the vast majority of them are disgruntled power gamers.

Also, please stop going on about how I was condemning AoS. Yes, I was condemning it, then I read the rules. I got carried away in the whole online negativity on most of the forums, but when I read the rules for myself, my opinion changed.

Scourge, You're very nearly off the edge of respectful comments and discussion. I advise you watch yourself, because flaming people is not going to change people's opinions of the game, only you.

tumblr_inline_nlo8weJdXt1sh0m4g.webp

I reserve my respectful comments for those deserving of it. I wasn't flaming him, I was making a snide, half-serious, sarcastic remark, there's a difference, if anything he was flaming me.

At the end of the day, AoS will probably be a success. I personally hope it is. If you don't like it, fine, the old editions of Warhammer are there waiting for you, just buy the rulebooks off the internet or something, but the whining is getting a bit tiresome.

I was replying more to your earlier comments, but I couldn't be bothered going to the previous page.

My earlier comments, about how the gimmicky rules sounded bad to me, yeah apologies for having an opinion. Other than that good luck finding comments about me being negative.

Good job making the thread about you again, I'll pop you on ignore.

I don't think it's silly. It's different, and you could change the rules to suit your view (I've seen nothing about difficult terrain yet, but I haven't looked at the Terrain WarScroll) of how it should work. But personally I feel like as long as everyone is playing with the same rules, it shouldn't be too bad. It might be bad, I'll have to see some armies like Wood Elves which are known for their shooting, maybe that makes it very bad.

But if you look at it like this, a dedicated shooting army or uint get's their attack once every full round, and dedicated melee get their attacks once per player turn. So Melee is winning out vs Shooting units when they finally close the gap, and more than likely doing severe damage to them despite the fact that they may still be able to shoot.

Besides have you seen Lord of The Rings? Clearly Legolos attacks with his bow even in melee, if that's not proof in favor of this, I don't know what could be.

Also for the Melee situation, I am a little unclear here in your example. You had two units of Liberators (One of which was one man) and they had a Lord and the Monster thing in combat? And somehow they were close to each other or something? But when you do combat, as far as I've read, you go back and forth between players rolling per unit fielded. So he would never get to attack with both the Lord and the Monster at once. But if you're just confused that the Monster gets to attack at all, I mean, as long as it was within 3" of something when it got selected to attack, I don't see the confusion.

Simple paint images may help clear this up, if it's not too much trouble?

Legolas uses his bow in two ways in CC, a) using the actual bow as a weapon to hit with, catching people in the string etc and b) firing at point blank range. Sisters of Avelorn as I said have a firing at point blank range special rule so no problem there. Using your bow as a melee weapon, if there are archers that have bows with a melee profile, again, no problem there. But actually firing a bow, during the shooting phase, whilst the unit is engaged is engaged in close combat? That seems lacking in common sense.

THAT is my "silly" issue. Missile units being able to fire out of combat or at the unit that they're locked in combat with, in the shooting phase, whilst being locked in combat.

As for my close combat quandry:
messy combat age of sigmar.webp

So the previous combat phase had seen L1 charge at the K-rath. The surviving L1 was where he was because that was the full charge range used up.

During his charge phase the Klord had come into combat, then L2 were in range after moving to charge into him in my subsequent phase.

So. Both Krath and Klord were in combat with L1. L2 were in combat with Klord.

Since it was my turn I opted to complete the L2 combat first. So my L2s hit, and I think take a wound or two off the Klord, nothing significant.

Now... here's where it gets messy. He gets to make his responding attacks after my L2s attack.

The Klord is in combat with BOTH L2 and L1. Since the Krath is also in combat with L1, he is under the impression that his Krath can make its 3" pile in to get into combat with the remaining L1. He can then opt to direct all the Krath's attacks against the L1, and then his Klords attacks against L2.

IMO he should only have been able to make his responding attacks with his Klord, THEN it would be my turn to resolve the final L1s attacks, THEN his Krath would get to respond and pile in.

Either way, it is unclear to me, and whichever way is the correct way, is still messy and not clear cut.

The whole case is mostly based on laziness to be thinking and creative. 8 editions long, men! GW rules were never that good, and nobody does not understand still? That's ridiculous. They made great minis (and not only), if you like them you'll be doing rules you need for fielding them by yourself or with your friends if you need to. It's a fantasy world, it's cries for your imagination (especially considering all those tons of paint schemes and conversion variants). If you are a true hobbyist, you will put all your energy and efforts to make it look how you feel it should. Not to go somewhere else, it's not a game in the first place, and never was. It's a world with great plastic and metal warriors, waiting for you to shape them according to your desires and vision. Always remember, what all the fantasy was made for - to escape the reality and get a rest for your soul. Dixi.
Yeah, it's an interesting rule set, and definitely for players who are looking to field like, 5-6 years worth of collecting models on a single table. My favorite (Of course personally) is 'Nids vs anything, because I have literally been collecting Tyranids for over 10 years, and... well I have 10 years worth of 'Nids. Although I have never fielded any sort of Apox game, since I have no place to in my home, and my friends live no where near me :ghost:
Exactly, you got the point. Waves and waves of tyranids with huge harridans and bio-titans against all might of the Imperium with his massed ranks of the Imperial Guard, squads of space marines and lots of vehicles. It's what 40k is all about! What one could wish more?

Sounds to me like he was trying to bend the rules. I like that missile units can shoot in combat, like Menkeroth said it would not be impossible to fire a musket or a bow while in melee. But since ranged units are so weak in combat compared to dedicated melee units they will die really fast, which balances the whole thing out quite nicely I think.

One thing I do find rather silly though from what I have read is that characters seem very vulnerable. There's no way to protect them other than putting them in or behind cover, you can't put them in a unit and there's no "Look Out Sir" alternative available for the vast majority of hero-type units.

Aye, but magic can do the trick and protect them, from what I see there's a lot of models who know shielding spells of different sorts. To some extent it's good and makes your best characters really stand out, but on the other hand it's really not that easy to protect them, which must make you think harder on the tactics part.

Most hero units have had their wounds upped significantly, and magic has been quite heavily nerfed in some ways (i.e. the damage potential of individual spells), although boosted in other ways (no magic pool dice means you ALWAYS have 2 dice to cast a spell and how many spells you can cast is based on how many wizards you take).

Concerning our characters, do people think they gave all of them new war scrolls just so we can use them until VC get updated?
Because I'd love to know how Konrad can feasibly have made it into the new world.

It's so that you can keep using your old models and keep having fun with them basically, and also so that they can keep selling them. xD

However I can imagine Konrad being alive again. Since Nagash is now the sole god of death, having usurped or devoured all the other death gods like Morr and the Nehekharan death god whose name I forget; he can bring anyone he wants back to life to serve him, be it as a skeletal warrior, a vampire or as a ghost. Nagash is the supreme power over all dead things now and nothing can deny his will, not even the rebellious vampires.

I'm going to pop in and say this now.
And not just to Undying Scourge.

Everyone is starting to get very personal and disrespectful of each others hobby and the way they like to play it.
I fully expect to see every taking part in meaningful discussions and continuing to make this forum a fun place to be where people can speak freely without taking shots at one another, snide or otherwise.
Next time this happens I'm going to hand "everyone" involved (in a seriously negative roll) warnings and I HATE doing that because I don't like heavy handed modding.

Now Please continue to express your own views but remember not to take things personally if others don't agree with you or you will have a bad time on the internet.

Now everyone back to you evil and fiendish plottings. ;)

I do not think he did. Other thoroughly murdered dudes also got battlescroll updates. I think these are more about making sure existing armies are playable, at least for the time being, at least to whatever extent anything in AoS can be considered playable, rather than indications of who or what is actually alive and kicking in the new setting.

Everybody died. Nagash is the lord of death. He's actually promoted himself, he is now the God of all deaths, in control of ALL underworlds, not just the Nehekharan afterlife, but Morr's domain is now his as well, and the various other ones. Not difficult for him to ressurrect Konrad.

Something I hadn't realised is that this is not set directly AFTER the End Times. The End Times happened so long ago that even Chaos has forgotten about the Old World. Millenia have passed, at least five thousand years or something.

But yes it could also be about making sure current armies are playable.

Personally I can't wait for some model updates... a Vampire Lord character in the same vein as the Khorne Lord from the starter box? That would be incredible. I wonder if there's room for conversion... A slavering dire wolf instead of the flesh hound... a grizzled trophy or balefire brazier or swirling spirits instead of the brass khorne symbol.

Aye, and what is also important is that we can also recreate the battles of the world-that-once-was, so yes, it's logical, because they really want all the model ranges to be intact and it's great.
Yeah all the eight realms actually had a long period of peace before chaos crept in. Might buy the novel and hope that sheds more light on things.
If you do, it'd be great to hear what is written. People already say there're lots of fluff, stories, scenarios and the like.

In the past couple years, I've come to value this very forum, Carpe Noctem, over most other WHFB forums on the web.
It has been an invaluable ressource for gaming, a fair ground for civilized discussions and gentleman-style disagreements, where every side always felt valued and respected.

What I had to read the last couple minutes (I'm at work, so can only browse on occasion) sadens me profoundly. People insulting each other and throwing the mud at each other.
People getting shout at because they asked a sincere question ?
Is that the way now ?
This has long evolved past a serious discussion.

Folks, some of us will like AoS and will choose to stick with it after some test runs.
Some of us like old-fashined WHFB.
Some of us will engage in both.
There's no need to go at each others throats over a GAME.

And telling people they're not sociable because they like to play a tournament or more or less competitve game every now and then, or enjoy to write up lists and army builds for their game is ... not sociable in the least.
I've probably enjoyed every angle there is to classic WHFB, including the competitive scene (which I don't like that much) and its complete opposite, the beer & bretzel moshfest evening with drunk buddies.
MY resumé ? There's a time and a place for all kinds of game. And so it is as well for AoS, WHFB, or any other game.

Yeah that's basically what I said. Nagash has had many thousands of years to conquer the other realms of death, and now he's set his sights on the other Mortal Realms and, eventually, the essence of the Chaos Gods.

Nagash is megalomania incarnate, he sees himself as the prime being, the only being, worthy of power. Nothing is enough for him. He either rules everything or he tries to rule everything. He will never stop.
