  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
as usual i doubt existing players of these factions need more of any of these units, but they're pretty solid options for anyone looking to start one of these factions from scratch, price depending.

Seraphon is potentially the best one.
Lots of new units and there are players that did not take those at the time

Pretty impressive. As usual for FEC models, I wish the delusions were worked into it more, though I'm not sure how. Maybe instead of a snarling monster face they could put some weird solumn dignified or lofty sneering expression on it? But really that's a minor complaint as this guy looks fantastic.

Also looks like something that would be perfectly represented by the upcoming plastic bret hero on pegasus model for old world if you were doing a 'FEC-as-they-see-themselves' concept army.

Yeah that model is gorgeous. I cannot wait for the full release of new FEC stuff! I hope the timing is not too far off so that I can use all the new Old World bretonnians as conversions. I find it highly likely that FEC will be my full on project for 2024.

Other things that this article gets me hyped about is how many times the use the name the Summerking (also known as... Ushoran!). Which to me seems as an indication that he will finally make a model for him!

What if it isn’t Ushoran but Abhorash who has after mending up in the mortal realms lost his mind hence why they all think they’re chivalrous knights? I am of course joking but GW do occasionally go for the crazy option. Lovely model though as everyone has said, I just prefer my vampires armoured and exercising a bit more self restraint!

It's nice but as I've said many times before I am so sick of hero models. Most armies are now 60% heroes yet you can only field 5. Can't wait for the rank and file.

Good news, then, as new ghoul infantry have leaked:

These had leaked well before the October preview, which is why I was so sure we'd see an official reveal for them then. As is they pretty much have to be in the November preview, especially with the feast day tease and now this key guy.

Really hope this isn't a full rework of the current ghouls and just a new unit.

I actually quite like the leaked ghouls, and I hope they're just new ghouls and NOT a separate unit. We'll see though. Looks like the new sprue has options for either hand weapons or a halberd, which could eather mean basic ghouls with options or elite ghouls who have a choice of proper weapons while regular ghouls are stuck with their claws & bone clubs.

I mean, the FEC line is so limited that I do think there's room for even new infantry heroes. For example, I wouldn't mind a court mage style ghoul courtier, and I don't mind the recent campaign harbinger. I would prefer if these more specific type heroes replace some of the more generic heroes we've had so far rather than being in addition to them, though. If we have a ghoul messenger/herald and get a ghoul court wizard/vizier then do we still want or need just a generic ghoul hero courtier with no particular flavor to it at all? If I had my way, they would re-name the unit champs of ghouls, horrors, and flayers to be 'courtiers', tell you that your converted and/or just differently painted guys are unit champs instead of heroes now, and replace all of those with new heroes that have more detailed roles and lore and actual bespoke models.

What I don't want to see is another Abhorrant Ghoul King / Abhorrant Archregent situation where there's really no difference in aesthetic or lore between them, ones just 'the same but a little more powerful' or whatever. That's garbage, imo. Similar to the courtiers, if I had my way 'abhorrant archregent' would be removed altogether and the model would just be 'Abhorrant Ghoul King on Foot', with rules closer to what the Archregent's rules currently are, and use the space that frees up for more stuff like this new gorewarden who potentially has an actually distinct battlefield role and some interesting and unique lore behind him.

I think FEC is a given, so I'm crossing my fingers for tomb kings. What I want more than anything else for them is new plastic skeleton infantry and horses. The 8e plastic tomb guard (including the necropolis knights and warsphynx crew) imo hold up well enough. As do the chasis for the chariots, and a lot of the metal/resin stuff. But the skeleton infantry, skeleton cavalry, chariot riders, and chariot steeds are just too old. Just two sprues, probably the same as went into the brettonian knights on foot, could revitalize all of those units at once, and with them the entire army range, since that's all the core/battleline options.

Almost certainly not going to happen. I'm 90% sure they're going to expect people to buy the wonkily proportioned old skeletons. But that 10% left over will keep holding out as long as it can.

Ushoran/Summer King (?) seems to have leaked. I'm not going to post the potato-cam spoiler here since we're just a few hours away from the proper reveal anyway, but if you know where to look and don't want to stay up late you can find it for yourself. IMO Looks cool, but I kind of wish I hadn't been spoiled on a cool model by such a low quality image, so I recommend waiting if you can.

I'm annoyed with him. He looks ok, but it looks like he has an open wound on his forehead.

also, I'm sick of the dark souls esque fur cape thing they have done with death releases. He should be wearing tattered human skin stitched together, and the shoulder pad should be an ogre skull.

Yeah, they're awesome, I really hope that the rules for the dellusions will be really thematic and inspired

Lots of great reveals. A bunch of rank and file, Ushoran has returned as a Mortarch. Everything I want on paper. They look great. I have no complaints. And you know what it made me realize? I don't want it. I just look at the price tag and shudder. It seems even more expensive a hobby then it used to be. I have a Soulblight Army and a Nighthaunt Army I really like and play most frequently. I don't think I want to spend the money on a tertiary army I'll rarely play. I think instead I'm actually going to box up my Flesh Eaters. Such a strange revelation to have.

Fair enough. This is a darned expensive hobby to be collecting multiple armies for. Even if money were no issue, the painting time involved, or even just the storage space necessary to put it all away, makes sticking to a limited number of factions a good call.

There was a time when the Death offerings in AoS were limited enough that you could reasonably collect the whole Grand Alliance, but that was always an outlier situation. I don't think anybody ever felt a need to collect every Chaos or Order faction, even trying would have been silly. I'm glad to see the undead in AoS finally developed enough that getting all of it is likewise kind of a bad idea.

I'm on board for the new FEC, but then again I just downsized my hobby pile massively by ditching my 20 years accumulated 40k army.

I do like the variety in aesthetics between the undead factions on offer in aos. The new FEC aren't as far removed from SBGL as NH and OBR are, but still distinct enough that I don't begrudge them their separate faction book anymore, and I could def see someone having a clear preference for one over the other.

There's an Dark-Soulsy, or more specifically Elden-Ringy feel to the new FEC. Ushoran in particular looks like he attends family dinners with Godrick the Grafted, and I really like that. That really speaks to me.

I completely get you Oppenheimer! However, my conclusion is the opposite in the end: I will spend all my hard-earned cash on adding a third Death army to my collection: Praise be to Ushoran!

2024 will be the year that my noble (and flesh-eating) crusaders will ride out through the sandy dunes of Hysh to face the infidels who willingly oppose the Summerking!
