The Good Doctor is sending out his Charnel Vanguard force to Blood in the Sun this year, and leading the army is His Royal Highness, a Strigoi Ghoul King. All finished and ready for BitS this month!

Complete with the Book of Arkhan, in Fistandantilus blue like all the others.

And even though he's a total savage, His Royal Highness is still a necromancer, and he brings Ruby, his ratty familiar with him. She's from the Corpse Cart, and I think she goes with his beastly nature nicely.

So that leaves the Mortis Engine, and then this year's list is done. I'll be at it soon. Stay tuned!

@Adam_Barrow Beautiful work! That's the meanest looking person with a book I've seen since the internet became a household necessity and I stopped going to the local library.

Congratulations on another one biting the dust in preparation for Blood In The Sun and thanks for reminding me to order some Tamiya Clear Red.

@Farmer7574 Tamiya always does the job. It's been a great find.

@Theerteen BitS is the one big tournament we go to in the summer. I live in a vast empty Warhammer wasteland in this part of the country, so we make a big vacation of going up to Chicago and getting trashed.

Thanks guys. I think he turned out pretty cool.

On the first picture I wasn't a big fan of the strigoi guy, but the finished version is plenty cool! Highlights as lines give him.. I don't know, visceral? look - I like it very much. BTW - reading a book, hell, even opening a book must be hard task to do with such claws xD

Also, regarding some earlier entries - I really like the Hierotitan and I am eager to see what will become of the desert wolves ;) After the news that VC and TK are getting merged I got a lot of ideas how to make them work together and I see that you also have some fine ideas for yourself. I wonder if I get to realise some of those ideas ;)

@Borgnine I like the idea of the book not actually needing to be opened by hand as it has a life of it's own and only listens to it's master, just like the books in Evil Dead 3. They open themselves, fly around flapping their pages and try to eat enemies. Hilarious film!

@Borgnine The four vampires (His Royal Highness and the Nurses) in this plog so far all freaked me out up until the last couple steps. Somehow they always come together better than I was expecting. Glad you like him. As to the Dreadwolf Knights, they may be behind the Bone Giant on the paint schedule after my BitS list is finished. I'm itching to paint the big guy, but those wolf riders sure are popular. They may get bumped forward.

@Farmer7574 Speaking of good horror films, I peeped The Babadook recently. Pretty good stuff. I can endorse it for somebody looking for scares other than the "suddenly a thing jumped out" variety.

Lots of work on the Engine this week. The ghost cloud and base are finished, and the palanquin is already coming along nicely. I'm well on schedule.

Won't be long before this one's done. Thanks for stopping in!

Bender looks confused :D A good start there. My ghosts will be green too, while my other swarm is blue, I wanna have the "classical" ethereal look for one Engine. Painting the bone cage almost killed me, it was cool, and I really like how it turned out, but dude, you really have to stay focused and motivated to get it done. Hope to see it finished soon ;)

@Theerteen I opted for metal on my cage. Whenever I've been given the chance I've used black and white cloth with any metal in silver throughout the army (the Nurses show that in particular). Trying to keep everybody as goth as possible. It's no coincidence everybody that has fingernails has black fingernails.

@Adam_Barrow That's coming along well and looking sweet! Your green palette you've used in your army reminds me of the slime rivers in The Undercity, in World of Warcraft (where big giant abominations and other sorts of undead dwell). Totally fitting with your army!

@Borgnine Hah! Long claws/nails are as much of a burden in daily life as they are an asset in wartime in the Warhammer world, and just a plain ass burden in real life.

Have you ever seen those women in The Guinness Book of Records for the longest nails? It's a wonder how they get daily stuff done! They probably have to rely on their partners to do everything for them. I mean EVERYTHING!

If that was my wife, I know where I'd tell her where to go...

@Farmer7574 The green was a choice a made very early. I wanted a Necrarch army, and that meant two things: mad scientist and haunted. Things needed to look like strange necromantic experiments (I think Elvira nails this--I'm so pleased with how she turned out), and there needed to be ghosts everywhere (I'm even saving a bunch of the Army of the Dead models and some Ghouls/Skellies/Zombos to paint ethereal to put in those units). Turns out green fits the bill for both things because everybody knows green is the most mad scientist of the colors. I'm glad you think it works.

The Ghost Wagon is ready for action.

The Engine only has one Banshee scream, so I only gave it one Banshee. The other two will be repurposed later.

And here's little Wendy, an albino ratty familiar. Because if it ain't got ratties, it ain't my plog.

I finished it! Hot damn!

@Adam_Barrow What an impressive piece of work!

Beautiful ethereal colours and I love the use of only one banshee, she actually looks more special on her own (and it frees up the other two for something cool too!)

The bloody tome and black robes amongst the ethereal cloud are nice touches, I like your ethereal keys too - I would have just painted them metal :)

Top job, Mr. Barrow!

Is that your quota completed for BitS?

As promised, here's the group shot for Blood in the Sun next weekend. The Charnel Vanguard, one of the Good Doctor's ancillary forces that dispatch when he needs a quick victory. The Movement Phase tricks in this army are strong: a lvl 4 for Danse, the Book of Arkhan for another Danse, and Incantation of the Desert Winds on a Liche Priest. In your face by Turn 1.

aimg.photobucket.com_albums_v205_mtmt_20150621_220852.webp

And because I promised this twelve months ago, I guess it's time I finally send up the Good Doctor himself. Vampire Lord on Abyssal Terror, lvl 4 LoV, Red Fury, Quick Blood, Talisman of Preservation, Ogre Blade.

The Good Doctor, an ancient and vile Necrarch. Mad scientist, wicked necromancer, patient mastermind. Bourne aloft by Dolly, his Abyssal Terror, because no self respecting Necrarch leaves his tower unless it's on the back of a stitched together monster.

Ogre Blade. Literally.

Dolly is named for Dolly Parton, another stitched together monster.

And the only rat familiar I haven't shown that gets her namesake from a real life pet of mine. This is Claudia, named for my first pet rat, the greatest creature ever to draw breath. I still miss her. She was the inspiration for all the rat familiars in this army, and she rides in a place of honor here with the Good Doctor.

I leave Wednesday morning for St. Louis to meet up with a friend, then north to Chicago. Wish me luck!

Claudia!! Yay! Rock on!
Love the army, mate. It looks freaking fantastic. Your choice of colors fit the theme so well. Best of luck at the event

Sweet stuff! ME looks very nice with the strong green and black and they all make a proper impression on the group shot  The color scheme on the wide photo really fits them undead dudes. Also, I love the literal ogre blade and the rat familiar - such personal stories as accents on the miniatures are really awesome :)

@Borgnine Thanks! It's not the most competitive list (it'd really do better with a second Engine instead of the Heiro), but I really liked the way my Angel of Death turned out so he made the cut. I knew having all that strong ethereal green on the big models would make the army really striking on display, and since I'm not worried about ranking high so much as playing a ton of warhammer and boozing with my friends all weekend, I wanted to have an army that stands out visually. It sounds like I pulled it off. Thanks for the kind words.

Way to go! My buddy has just gotten hold of an old Man O War set. He used to play it ages ago and says it's really good, so that'll be our Friday night 'Beerhammer' stand in until my Warhammer stuff arrives.
