Age of sigmar

  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
No prob, mate :-)

I personally would regardless of what GW will do with the current range since some folks are trying to scoop up as much as they can now. I mortally wounded my wallet by ordering more witch elves a month ago and my hip hasn't felt normal since.

No problem, mate. I keep an eye out for rumors and info from other sites, mostly from Druchii.net, so if I have the chance to share things with my favorite community, I will. :-)

Also this really is a new age for GW - they're being transparent! They're actually answering questions in a direct and honest fashion now! This is brilliant.
Aye, it's definitely not what they tend to. It's a good sign in this regard. And if they make new modes for the old armies just like the new models in the starter, I guess one could forgive them everything.

It makes for incredibly cringe worthy reading. Someone made as point about the lack of gender equality in the extra rules, moustaches and beard stroking, not sure if that's justified our just a bit of ott political correctness...

Well, there are others not mentioned, and I don't care to search through every army looking for them. For instance, Konrad was left out of the list.

As for gender equality, only the Brettonians "For the Lady" rule seems to qualify. Moustaches... maybe. I've only ever seen three different women play Fantasy and one of them had a moustache... but none of them played Empire, so...

One could choose a champion to represent!

Your Moustache Champion

Your heroic voice chosen

Your schizophrenic model-speaker!

Ok the last two may be out of line, but women could bring their own champion to represent them!
(btw, the Masque of Slaanesh is kinda funny. Kinda)

GW are really going all-in with AoS it seems. I think we may be on the brink of a new Renaissance for Warhammer and Games Workshop. There are several video games coming out that look amazing - the Space Hulk FPS, the Battlefleet Gothic game, TW Warhammer, and possibly Dawn of War 3! All that as well as Age of Sigmar. Things are looking bright from my perspective.

Thats not reality, thats someone gimping the system. He does have valid points outside of the obvious lack of sportmanship, but that is an example of how to take rules and remove any sense of fair play.

I dont see that, he fields a completely legal list according to the rules, sportsmanship has nothing to do with choosing weaker units. Thats ridiculous. This whole ruleset promotes this. It actually is fluffwise a far more true list to take 5 vampires that slash gazillions of nameless minions than it is fluffy to take loads of crappy footsoldiers.

Sudden Death is also horrible tbh.... which turd invented that rule and which turds agreed to incorporate it...oh yeah, all of GW

Have you people read the rules for Konrad??? "If you talk to Konrad you can reroll all hitrolls of 1, if he talks back reroll all failed hits instead....... W T F is that about

All of these rules relate to the old fluff and all who know it because of being engaged in the hobby. Just some sort of humor. These rules work as they must, just with some humorous description. In case of Konrad it's just an easter egg - in the current VC armybook he has a rule that makes him either stupid or frenzied, depending on the roll. One does not have to be a genius in order to understand it. In case you really don't understand you have to refresh your mind for awhile. ;)

In one of my previous posts, I pointed out that Sudden Death only makes sense if it is chosen before the battle starts if one player brings significantly more models. It doesn't make any sense to take place later on because it can go back and forth as each player loses models.

I also posted about this. There are quite of these gems throughout the armies with a link directed to them.

But in tandem with that you feel the need to help their badly design system just because you use their models? Seems like a strange reason to give random newbies the impression that AoS can be a good system over simply advocating for a better one.

Well, better is subjective. Some people appreciate the "Less is more" mentality. Like with the 5th edition of D&D, it's quite different, but I can appreciate the lack of suffocating in rules like 3.X (And it's player supported continuum Pathfinder) had. In War games it can be just as well, I can enjoy a through game system, but all the same something laid back that I don't have to fret over if I understand each minute rule.

Personally the time invested into games (set up to game end), wasn't as enjoyable for me in WHFB. And I know that is probably not a very popular sentiment on a forum devoted to the game (And hobby), but I understand how this could be a bit of a shoddy system. But their game and their models aren't necessarily connected, especially with them completely having drawn themselves out of physical locations and store run events, where they could enforce rules like "No non-brand models" or such. Now it's irrelevant. You could buy KoW models play AoS or the opposite, or both at once.

Certainly I would never advocate this game to anyone looking for WHFB. Although I would say that frankly, WHFB is an extinct species, unless someone makes a game that is similar to what WHFB was, other games will simply be more advance than AoS rather than actually being as complex and detailed as WHFB was. It was certainly many things to many people, but no matter who was looking at it, I think we could all see it was dying.

Moving back to the building your own rules issue, I wasn't implying all of the "made up rules" be based on AoS or support the game (Or even GW). I was suggesting that players shouldn't simply go looking for a new system when something they love is broken. Perhaps investing the love and care of their gaming hobby into making something they believe in, would potentially benefit everyone if it becomes a system to be marketed on it's own. Like Pathfinder is to older-edition D&D which Wizards of the Coast walked away from.

But all the same, Pathfinder was providing a game for a community that was already quite active and I would dare say a bit larger than the WHFB community. I don't know if a "Faux-WHFB" game could really make that much of a splash as a major game, but it could certainly serve as a very niche living rule system maintained by a devoted group of players as a community project, which is more than likely going to happen, since the internet enables such things so easily.

Kind of like how Mordheim and other specialist games exist in spirit after GW threw them away.

As for if that makes GW scum? I can't fault a business for seeking to survive any more than I can a person. I don't know how bad off GW is as a company, but I am fairly sure WHFB wasn't their bread-maker.

There will be no banning for quoting Taylor Swift!

I was thinking that we as a community could just give points costs to all the warscrolls... would be that hard actually. I just have to playtest the game before I can delve into that.

I am honestly shocked at the lack of Math-hammer having been put into the game. I guess the kinds of people who normally do Math-hammer related things are probably quite put off by this system though, so perhaps it makes sense.

"He acknowledges that the 'funny' rules are rather silly and don't make for a great intro to the system for new people. His response was that the armies in the box set don't have the silly rules. They're there as kind of a celebration and final send off of the old warhammer armies, and he said you might notice the new armies don't have the stupid noises or imaginary friends. This is deliberate, its designed that you'll only generally play the old stuff with your mates since it's a bit embarassing to play in a public place."

Powerful quote. Shame people into leaving their old armies/models. Granted we don't have to obey the "Silly" rules, and personally I'll just allow those to be "free" buffs that always apply, rather than on their conditional stupid interactions. But I am glad they are saying that moving forward the silly rules are not a thing :ghost:

I found something interesting on twitter. I don't quite know the context of this, but it seems like GW stores have been getting an email with some examples to help balance games.

"

1-12 total warscrolls
1-2 heroes
0-2 monsters
No unit may contain more than x wounds
No hero warscroll may be duplicated
Other warscrolls may only be duplicated once

"

Got it from https://twitter.com/Lady_Atia

Doesn't look that bad to me? Thoughts?

You could add "previously large target models" instead of monsters. You could also add a warmachine restriction for example. Or a "minimum one previous core unit".

That mostly applies to the old army things though :P

@Blutsauger Mostly because of eventual awesome models with less silly warscrolls, and actually liking the setting ;) I am not impressed by either ruleset tbh.

Yet to read Warthrone, but I heard it had some pretty unique mechanics like a chain of command affecting gameplay, formations etc. (Too bad everything AoW does is slow apparently)

They really think having 2 necromancers in an army is inappropriate?
