Good lord am I getting BURNT THE HELL OUT on assembling Dark Elves.

Thank the lord i'm nearly done. Only 3 more dark riders and ... well all but 3 corsairs (seriously, screw the corsairs... awful kit).

Soon i get to be burnt out on painting ;)

Terrible luck about your friends OnG. Who steals models, anyway? I thought that was my one saving grace against burglars- I only own nerd stuff lol.
Anyway I found your plog through YouTube (didn't know this was you on carpe noctem) and it's great to see your models up close! They look really good from afar in your battle reports, but super sharp when I can see them individually. Great work, keep up the battle reports too, I've been a huge fan for a while. Nothing like beer and warhammer.

As any of you who watch my batreps know, i've been out of the hobby for like 6 weeks - stupid Dark Souls 2 & Diablo 3. Haven't been playing games OR doing any hobby. Trying to break that tonight - forward progress!

Got a TON of painting done this weekend - was amazing to get back into it... though I have to admit, I forgot just how much work this stuff is. My back aches from hunching over. All weekend and i'm only about 1/2 through my Witch Elves:

So much time devoted to painting every component black then going over with bronze and washes. Eventually a lot of that will become bright metal too. When I couldn't stand to paint witches any longer, I pushed along the cold ones. I think their flesh is almost fully done. Now moving onto the riders and boney spikes for color.

I'm liking those witches, very clean look. I have always been a bit of a fan of the clean crisp look - though could possibly do with some more shading on the hair.

Definitely! that's just the white primer so far. Going to go with a Slaanesh gray base, then build back up to white.

In the meantime I started working on unit-filler 2x2 blocks to stretch out my 20-count to a full 40-block-horde (including the cauldron). At $60 / box, no way am I going to buy more. Also, they don't rank up nicely at all. Seriously, it's like GW didn't even try. *facepalm*

Really liking everything I see here! You are a very productive painter, how many armies are you playing currently?

Best wishes for your family, a child is always a blessing. He will be omnoming those minis in no time.

Thanks, Raizi. Currenly really only pushing along the Dark Elves. Occasionally hopping back to the O&G and VC, but nothing active now. Think that'll probably change when Nagash comes out!

The kind of painting that's so good it makes me want to give up.... =P Just keep telling myself I have my own distinctive style! Epic kudos and congrats on your son!

So because GW has priced the Witches STUPID expensive ($60 / box of 10), I'm only going to get 2 boxes (and only that much because i sold my brets). Went and bought some GF9 50x50 bases, cut them to 40x40 and made some unit fillers for the witch horde. Spacing them out gives 2 benefits:
1) a single witch can stand for 4, so I can increase my numbers.
2) Witches simply do not rank up ... i dont know what GW was thinking, but they do NOT rank up. Each of them bump arms, their flailing and leaping poses don't work together and their hair is so big, it pushes other models around. I think this could have been remedied if only some of them were up on rocks, leaping. The models look great, but they rank up just as poorly as Black Orcs.
Here's a pic of me planning out spacing (serious headache - i need to number the bases of each elf on the front & sides, honestly)

Spacing figured out, chicks glued on their new bases

Looking good ... with their dynamic poses (which are really nice looking, just impractical), you can barely tell i'm using unit fillers

Add in the cauldron: NOW WE'RE IN BUSINESS, BABY!

Ill start working on the bases soon - gotta find some terrain to put in there as well. In the meantime i started working on their hair.

Bitches gettin' their hurr did!

I'm using a 3 stage color scheme here:
- slaanesh gray will be the base
- pallid wytch flesh will be the mid-tone
- skull white will be the highlights.

This picture was taken in some bad lighting, so you can't really see the final stage, but left-to-right is the process i'm using. The goal is to have some of that nice slaanesh gray under the folds of the hair providing depth.

Thank you, my friend!

I've put a pin in painting hair for a while and worked on magnatization & basing. Next task is to create a movement tray with some balsa wood and make it look like the ground they're on. Then *sigh* back to highlighting hair GROAN ;)

Nice work there. I like the cold one and well done with the jade statue that none seems to put on. Looking forward to seeing some batreps with this lot. Maybe I can finally get some ideas on how beat witchelves apart from throwing every diverter you have in front of them.
