Storm of Magic monsters are in too. And when he says no characters, he literally means it. You can nominate any model to be your general if you do not have any characters or unit champions.

I don't know. The reaction to unbound in 40k seemed... overstated. IME, Competitive players ignored it. It was only used by casual players with themed lists and big games for permission to bring everything. People talked about all heldrake armies or all oblit armies, but nobody actually did it, because who would buy and assemble that much for a joke, especially in a game on its way out, and who would put up with that level of proxying from someone who didn't?

So while I railed against unbound in 40k, now that I've seen it in (in)action, I don't really care, and imo neither should you.

I just don't know how could they screw this up!! (not GW... the Incarnates!!!)

So it seems they had a chance to assemble an All-Terrorgheist, BOTWD White Lion, Man-Eaters, Artillery from the finest corners of the Empire and Dwarfs, with a Gazillion Skinks and all cheap cheesy things you can possibly imagine...

...and still lost to Beastmen/Skaven/Warriors and Daemons?

I told you they would suck at commanding their own troops. Let's hope in 9th they'll let us do all the narrative battles, when a Vampire Lord doesn't let his Terrorgheist bite it to a freakin slow as hell monster like Glottkin (regardless of magic) seriously, he just had to kite and scream =(

hahahaha

Looking back at the ET books released it becomes clear that these rules were never intended to be permanent set of rules - it was just beer and pretzels rules and that is fine... but I would have liked a heads up though. I'm stoked to see what 9th will be. I really like that they burned 8th to the ground and said: And now, for something completely different! It remains to be seen what this "new" world will entail.

Yeah, I think it's hilarious and awesome as well. I was really happy with the ET books competitively right up until Khaine, at which point we just started playing good ol' fashioned 8th like it's going out of style.

I'm really excited about the fluff changes, though. The WHFB universe has been the same for as long as I can remember, and it's a bit stale. If people still want to set their armies in that world they can, but the opportunity for new stories and fluff in a brand spanking new world is really exciting to me. Can't wait!

I just hope they don't also fundamentally alter the game, as well as the fluff. Which I hope they won't. I want to see the factions remain substantially similar with some streamlining. Humans don't need their own cannon crews for instance, and can as easily borrow dwarfen cannons (you can convert human crew if you want). We don't need two kits for skeletons, one VC and one TK. Many of the elf units can be replicated with upgrade sprues, like they used to have for various Space Marine subfactions. I anticipate Bretonnians becoming like the Inquisition, being an "add on" army rather than one of their own.

  1. Can't guarantee this is correct but it fits with what I've heard. I guess we will find out soon enough...

Vlad does indeed star in this novel. He saves important people, inspires the Bretonnians to find Gilles and Abhorash (leaving a message for Abhorsash "Tell him he was right in the end.", kills countless daemons (and if I correctly recall a Bloodthirster) and saves Isabella by putting the ring on her finger and performing a double-suicide. This removes the demon within her.

Abhorash is off screen, repaying his debt to Gilles and Bretonnia. Vlad comments to himself (about Abhorash); "What warriors you could have made these men (Bretonnians), had you not sworn that damn Oath."

Settra saves Nagash. He does so after it looks like he's joined Chaos. Settra informs Nagash that he will accept his fealty after he destroys the Chaos Gods. These pathetic Chaos Gods think to rule Settra? SETTRA RULES. Nagash later dies after Teclis blows up and the winds are sucked into the Warp Rift. He is the last Incarnate to lose his wind; showing great resistance but eventually crumbling to dust.

Arkhan has been affected by Aliathra's touch. He can see the future to some extent. He sees the man amidst the void saving everything. He says to Neferata that they will be barely a memory amidst lost and legendary history. He kisses her on the hand, and asks her to go to Sylvania and "lead our people to safety", imparting a method of escape. Neferata kindly takes grieving Isabella (very motherly) and flies back to Sylvania to meet her "greatest rival and best friend", Khalida. Arkhan is last seen talking to Nef earlier on. Nagash did at one point say to Arkhan; "DIE WELL, MY SERVANT" when he saw him last. It was an oddly nice moment, despite the word choice.

They have undead, human (from Sylvania and Averland) and halfling refugees all hiding in Castle Sternieste. Nef arrives just in time for the warp to strike. Khalida and Nef share friendly words, accepting that they were too late to enact Arkhan's plan and that their rivalry is meaningless now. We do not see them die; instead we just see Skeletons bracing shields against the incoming energy. It is written as though this is a moment of futility.

Mannfred goes batshit and decides he'll kill Nagash with the warp rift and 'rule the world of anarchy if he cannot rule the world of order'. Vlad earlier said he preferred Konrad; at least he had some backbone. Vlad later said he didn't want Mannfred to die as he loved him like a son, flawed or not. Either way - damn it, Mannfred."

That is fucking amazing. Wow. What an ending.

This Unbound stuff is probably going to look the same as it is for 40K.

You guys ready for Objsec Dire Wolves?

Has anyone seen anything of the undead legions formation? Is there even an undead legions formation?

I hope whatever the inevitable 9e undead faction turns out to be keeps the look of the end times undead models - all monstrous, daemonic bone constructs and swirling ethereal spirits and junk. It's a good look, imo.
