TVC II OOC General OOC Discussion (New)

  • The masquerade of murder returns! A new game of Vampires Amongst Us has begun. Unmask the killers, trust no one, and try to survive the night. Find out more and sign up now!
He'd probably have preferred that :P

His bio is up and about for the GMs to see (and has been for a while).

Basically he has to keep complete mental control to stave off the degeneration which his armour is enchanted to help with.

The crossbowman took out that enchantment too suddenly so all the mental stress/unbalance he'd been under due to his wounds all hit at once.

Decided to edit my last post in chapter 9, had Kavok speak up and actually contribute to the conversation instead of just sit there depressed.

Important Notice

It's come to my attention that there's been a bit of a breach of rules and guidelines happening in chapter 7 for a while. We have warned not to underestimate named NPCs such as Kylar, Markus or Henrick; don't control their actions, etc. You can do this if you have express permission from the GMs to be able to control named NPCs, but otherwise, don't control their actions.

Also, don't control how they react to your actions. This is godmodding. However, the GMs (GoW, myself, Simon, DoN) can do this to a limited extent - although we will only interfere with your character not in terms of thoughts, but in terms of actions e.g. "the sword hit Mikhail and he fell back under the assault".

Furthermore, don't bring things into the RP that are very powerful but are not in your bio without express permission from the GMs. For example, bringing Death into the RP without having mentioned how Kithan was able to do this in his bio was a little over the top (overpowered/OP).

Of course you can always ask for permission if you want to do any of the things above.

This is the first fight scene for many in chapter 7; it's fine to make mistakes and I don't expect you to correct earlier ones, just not to make them in future. Your characters are not insanely powerful; if you look at the statlines, the named assassins can match most of the council, and Rikert and Henrick in particular can defeat most of the council.

If you need any help RPing/are unsure about your posts, just PM us (the GMs) or ask a query in the feedback thread and we'll be happy to help. We've all made mistakes in this RP, and don't look at the earlier chapters for examples of not breaking the rules/guidelines - because we broke the rules in those earlier chapters, and we did so badly. Now we are experienced, we are trying to make sure you don't make the same mistakes that we made at the start of the RP.

It's not embarrassing to have a character who fails occasionally; that's what adds the suspense. Of course some enemy characters will be more powerful than your own; hence, this is a group RP where players can work together to defeat enemies. Not being overpowered actually makes the RP a lot more fun.

I recommend you all (all in chapter 7, that is) read and re-read, if you have not already done so, the feedback from DoN on RPing errors and the guidelines for RPing in this roleplay.

I'll give you some examples of what to do and what not to do, just to clarify the boundaries of breaking the rules.

Greater godmodding (controlling named characters' actions without permission):
In which Player 1 controls Bob and Player 2 controls John

Player 2 post: John approached Bob menacingly...
Player 1 post: Bob laughed as John approached, and pulled out his machine gun. "You think you can stop me? You fool!" John, terrified of Bob and his machine gun, ran away.
Wrong! You can't control how John behaves, Player 1!

Player 2 post: John approached Bob menacingly...
Player 1 post: Bob laughed as John approached, and pulled out his machine gun. "You think you can stop me? You fool!" He hoped that John would run away because of his terrifying machine gun.
Yes! This is fine, you have not controlled John's actions, Player 1, but you have incorporated his actions which were earlier described by player 2 into your post.

Player 1 in the OOC: hey, Player 2, can I control John in my next post and have him run away.
Player 2 in the OOC: yeah, sure.
Player 2 post: John approached Bob menacingly...
Player 1 post: Bob laughed as John approached, and pulled out his machine gun. "You think you can stop me? You fool!" John, terrified of Bob and his machine gun, ran away.

Correct, because player 1 has asked player 2's permission to control John in this post, so it's not godmodding

Lesser godmodding (controlling named characters' reactions without permission):
In which Jack and James are fighting. Jack is controlled by player 1; James, by player 2.

Player 1 post: Jack swung his sword towards James. He could not block it because Jack was so fast and it bit deep into James' side.
Wrong! Player 1 should give Player 2 the opportunity to have their character block/dodge/avoid the attack in some way, not predetermine their reaction. That said, whilst Player 2 can have James block attacks some of the time, unless there is a good reason for it Player 2 should let some of Player 1's attacks hit them. Characters are not invulnerable.

This would be fine if it had been agreed prior to posting between Player 1 and Player 2.

Another correct approach would be:

Player 1 post: Jack swung his sword towards James. At this speed, any normal human would find it very hard to avoid Jack's attack.
You would expect James to either avoid the attack or let it hit him. In the long run, unless there is a good reason, James should let some of Jack's attacks hit and some miss - but it is paramount that their result is left up to him.

Using very powerful abilities not mentioned in character bio without permission:
In which Jill and Juliet are in combat. Player 1 controls Jill; player 2, Juliet.

Player 1 post: Jill was losing, and losing badly. Suddenly, she tossed a previously unmentioned giant inflatable turtle from her pocket, that could not take any damage but would crush anything that was not Jill within 10 metres.
Player 2: ...

Wrong! The giant inflatable turtle was previously unmentioned! Unless you talk in the OOC thread about using the inflatable turtle before posting and get permission to do so, then please do not do this.

Of course, if you do have permission to do this, it's fine. Moreover, minor unmentioned abilities are fine, if it is mentioned in the bio that "x has a variety of weapons and abilities" - however, if it is a significant ability like the giant inflatable turtle that crushes all within 10 metres of it, it really should be mentioned in the bio or referred to the GMs. If you do want to use an ability that's not in your bio that is very powerful, then please ask the GMs and get permission beforehand. Otherwise, it just ruins the quality of the RP.

Note that there is also the problem of chronic underestimation of enemy characters, but this is not breaking the rules exactly, just the guidelines, and consequences will be in-RP (such as characters getting beaten by opponents that they underestimated).

Please note, @Count Magpyr 's post is still in development, so please do not regard its IC effects yet. That means don't have your characters acknowledge what has happened in his latest post until we, the GM team, give the go-ahead.

@Count Magpyr 's post is no longer in development, so now you can feel free to regard its IC effects.

For all those interested in this RP, please check out Malochai's RP in the theatre de vampire section of this forum. Whilst it is still at its interest stage, I am sure that he would appreciate your support for it and I am also sure that you would enjoy RPing in it. It is set in the TVC-universe just after Manfred as re-assumed control over Sylvania following his resurrection.
