I once tested Skaven vs dwarfs back in 5th ed I think it was, and i had 4 Rat Ogres, and I managed to cast Death Fenzy on them (a supposedly "battle-winning" combination the tactics section referred to it if I remember correctly), where upon I declared a charge against 10 Dwarf Crossbowmen..

They managed to kill one from stand and shoot, then I missed ALL of my attacks, lost the combat by one, failed my LD tests, and had two surviving rat ogres (one with only 1 wound if I remember correctly). The next round it was the dwarf players turn, and he proceeded to shot them to death with the crossbow dwarfs. Not 1 dwarf lost, 4 death frenzied Rat Ogres with handlers lost..


My worst all time dice roll however, was in my very first warhammer rpg session, where my character had to jump across a junction below a sewer in Nuln, and because it was slippery, I had to make an easy AG test. I rolled a '00'. Then, I fell in the sewer, and had to take a toughness Test to see if I caught any disease. I rolled a '00'... Then, I had to roll on a disease table to see what I had accidentally caught, and again the cursed dice showed a '00'. I got the black plague, proceeded to swear fealty to nurgle, etc etc.. The character soon died however.. hehe For those not that good in math, 3x '00' in a row is a one in a million chance.

Hey I'm new on these forums but I shall share my worst ever game experience.

To start, the battle was between 3000 points of Dark Elves against 2600 points of Chaos Warriors. The battle was part of a large campaign I am part, the fight taking place because I assaulted a Chaos Fort that only had 1000 points inside it but as I maintained the siege and the turns went by his reinforcements soon came to his aid and bolstered his army by 1600 points. - My luck has already began to diminish.

The battle began, and in my first move phase my forces were crippled by several defensive traps set up just outside my deployment zone; killing one of my sorceresses in the first move. My four repeater bolt throwers and crossbows began to rain fire upon the warriors upon the walls to thin them out before my troops advanced with ladders, but the hard cover that the walls provide and the mark of Nurgle made my attempts all the more futile. My Corsairs, Spear men and Blackguard units made attacks on the walls, being crushed by the warriors and ogres upon the battlements - an expected fate. To my misfortune Shadowblade failed to assassinate the enemy general and alongside my failed wall assault broke rank and fled from the combat.

The first two turns passed and my initial advance was decimated, the majority of my broken units failed to rally and continued to flee but the worst part of turn three was the fate of my last remaining sorceress; she miss-cast her spell which resulted in her blowing herself up alongside nine of the Crossbowmen in her unit. My Command were now dead, leaving the fleeing Shadowblade and a hidden assassin as my remaining characters. The Bolt Throwers had more luck this time, peppering a single Chaos warrior unit to pieces, causing them to flee. At this point my enemy had already made his way out onto the battlefield with a five Chaos Knights, accompanied by a mounted Lord followed by two Spawns.

Turn four came, and my unit of ten Cold One Knights smashed into the flank of the Spawns, killing both of them outright with their lances but this wasn't enough, the Chaos Knights cut a swath through a Crossbow unit and disabled two of my four bolt throwers. My fleeing warriors still did not rally and were mere inches from the table edge, as turn five came my attack was crushed and my forces were in full retreat save for Shadowblade, my Cold One Knights and a unit of Crossbowmen which was never going to be enough to capture the objective inside the castle to claim a victory.

I had lost the came and we shook hands, it was by far the worst game I have ever had. Alas, in our particular campaign units and characters can attain experience points for displaying valorous or valuable qualities and we agreed that my Sorceress should gain experience points for successful dispelling Infernal Gateway three times, having had to be a roll of 18+ to dispel it each time.

Hmm my luckiest moment must have been when i was playing a 2v2 4000 points a side. My VC were doing alright against the HE playerinfront of my main force and i had a lone spirit host coming up the middle on his way to scare some skaven warmachines. Anyway, the host charges a unit of clanrats plus tooled up great seer (It was either that or get a ratling cannon to the face.) They promptly fail their terror check, and break. The unit was worth almost 8 times as much as the Host

Do you mean Cairn Wraiths by any chance? Spirit Hosts don't Cause Terror..

In my first 8.ed tests game (1k Orcs since it was the first book out, vs. 1k WoC), I had a reallybad start..

I had a lvl 4 Orc Shaman for the general. I had him placed next to 6 Trolls (to help them avoid stupidity and this march effectivly). I got first turn. Marched the trolls up around a building, and then I somewhat foolishly thought that the building would be an overall good vantage point for the wizard, since he could see in all directions, his IP range being measured from the building's base etc..
I had the "Foot of Gork" spell (the template one), and in my very first magic phase in the game I cast it at full power at his knights, managing to stomp a small handfull of them, but then I rolled a '1' to see what happened next, awhich meant that he got to place the template over one of my own units. He chose the trolls, but the foot scattered, hitting the building... I wasn't all that worried until I read the rules, the Lvl 4 shaman ending up on the receiving side of 6 Strength 6 hits, all causing d3 wounds.. Let's just say he had the shortest career as a general I#ve ever experienced, and was turned into green paste...

Story of how I became a BLOOD SUCKING BRAIN EATING fanatic:

Well I was at my local game store (over an hour drive). I bought the Warhammer Fantasy Rule Book, yeah that's right the big one. I was reading my new rule book and dreaming of a big battles when some one came over and asked if I would like to play. Sadly I had to reply, "I just got the rule book and I have yet to find an army to build." In reply from this stranger, "No problem I have Vampire Counts you can play them, and you will be playing the store owner's Dark Elves." Shocked to my knowledge some one letting me, a complete noob, to use his army and he is going to teach me how to play!? AWESOME!!!

So well I made more than a few mistakes because lets put it this way, 5 mounted vampires make up a unit is just one of the many issues.:slapface: Anyways I played, I raised zombies in mass, I charged my skeleton with spears force of 30 directly into the horde of Dark Elves, I raised more zombies to flank my opposition, I charged my 5 mounted vampires, and I got CRUSHED!!! A hydra ate my fresh zombies and treated my skeletons like their new favorite chew toy. The Vampires died under the shame of commander's stupidity (me)

Even though I lost I had more fun realizing that the blood sucking vampires and brain eating zombies would just be the best army for me, simply because when you can raze zombies to flank your opposition and seeing their reaction is just priceless.

For your pleasure here is a few things I learned ...

1- If you going to put that many vampires together to make a unit they better get their points back. (best not to do it)
2- If you have carts ... don't charge them into enemy units.
3- If you have carts ... don't forget they can give your unites always strike first.
4- Skeletons with spears ... die fast.
5- There are way better units out there then more skeletons, zombies, and just carts.

All in all I had fun and I look to build an actual army list (and not just what looks cool in my mind). Also I plan to read the books I have instead of just looking at the pictures (since I now have the new Vampire Count book). Hope you all enjoyed my story and had a laugh at my expense ... but not too much.

Lost count the mount of enraging expericences I have had but then again, I have had joy as well.

Just been playing with my steadily building empire army in the store campaign.
Not huge points but you get a 500 point army and a character up to 150 points so 650 total.

Was playing another empire player.
Now its not my intention to have a gunline and it will chance as the points increase every month but for the first month I wanted to pain somethiong to look good fast and cannons eat points....

So I fielded:

Level 2 fire wizard
Ruby Ring of ruin
Dispell Scroll

10 Swordsmen + Banner

10 Handgunners

10 Handgunners

1 Great Cannon

1 Hellblaster Volley Gun



He had a Tooled up light wizard, not sure on the equipement.

1 Celestial Hurricanum

3 Demigryph Knights with banner

And somewhere between 25 and 30 swordsmen with command..... Can't recall exactly.





Now this is the shortest game I have played.
Dice off after deployment, he gets +1 and rolls a 1, I roll a 6.

This is only my 3rd game with my empire and I am not sure on the Celestial Hurricanum so I did not want to take chances.
I stand my ground, he is out of range of my magic so I turn to my great cannon.
Fire 8 inches in front and goes 8 inches and bounces straight through.
I roll a 6 to wound and then 5 for wounds taken so it explodes.

Panic check for the other 2 units.
The Demigryphs roll a 11 for leadership and run straight off the board edge, his generals unit roll a 9 and also runs straight off giving me the victory.

Laughing a bit at this point having won with a single shot, I felt a bit like Reaver from fable for a few joy filled moments even as the manager started make snide remarks about my amry and my abilties to play. (He is a tool)

I'm already looking forwards till this saturday though so I can go get some more gaming done.
There is a nasty Gobo army with a unit of 50 guys and a nsaty chaos horde as well.
Thank god for hellblasters.

I remember once rolling 6 sixes at the same time in a LotR game. That's a 1 in 46656 chance for those of you who are wondering.

Well technically you have a 1 in 6^6 chance of rolling any combination of dice at all. This one was just more impressive

@Noobafrass: That is only true when you assign a specific number to a specific die. If you say die one will be a 4, die two a 1... die six a 2, the it is a 1 in 6^6 chance of getting it all correct. If you say: "I'm going to roll 6 dice, two of them will show 1, one will show 5 and three will show 4". Then it is much more likely you are correct. Saying all of them will be sixes is assigning a specific number to a specific die. I won't bother with exact calculations but this is true.

I once rolled to hit with a Orc Big Boss with hatred. Three attacks, 3+ to hit. First roll: all of them show 1. Second roll: all of them show 2. It was just silly.

It happened ages ago, and I remember the store manager shrugging and telling me that it was a 1 in 36 chance.
AND I BELIEVED HIM until I got home. I've been kicking myself ever since.

Played a game at the South Coast GT (tournament) at the weekend where my Horrors made 14 of 14 4+ Regens one round then 10/13 the next. Seemed pretty jammy at the time.

i heroic killing blowed a transformed Vampire lord (he cast the kadon spell and changed into the uber hard chimera)

needless to say i was in smug mode for a good day and a half

So today I played a game vs O&G. And his Orc boss was down to 1 wound and got charged by zombies. After 2 rounds if him nearly killing the unit, their was 2 that could hit back, 1 missed and the other hit and wounded and he failed all saves.

Had and 1 else had dumb luck like that??

Nothing quite that bad, but I have seen a unit of choas knights fluff all their attacks against a large unit of zombies, lose combat, flee and then get run down by the zombies.

I did the same thing flanking a unit of 7 ironguts with a tyrant using 30 or so zombies. They exposed their flank thanks to failing to hold after crushing some dire wolves, they fluffed everything and I won on combat res (from ranks and flanking). They fled and I ran them down, crippling his game since it was only 1500 pts. It was extra funny, because he had kept going on about how useless zombies clearly were and how awesome his tyrant was

In a manner of speaking, 1st ever game with the Coven Throne, Cannon goes to shoot and loses the battle of wills by the maximum amount possible, all 3 crew then manage to wound each other.
Won't happen again, but it was a blast lol, tried to fire the cannon and lost it and his crew instantly.

and for my own contribution (againtst the VC as my army is in construction) i once had a giant make an above average charge into the flank of some blood knights, his vamp charater decided to make way, my giant survived the attacks, then rolled pick up... and ate an immortal lord. sure he got killed soon after but it was woth it.

In 6th or possibly 7th, had a unit of zombies break and run down a high elf lord on dragon who charged in and fluffed his dice rolls, he got 11 for his flee, I rolled the dice, came up double six!

My missus was hexing his units with peanuts at the time though!

One of my best moments:

4k Skaven vs O+G, me playing O+G

needless to say my opponent had his entire side of the table covered in troops, with a horde of plague monks pushing a furnace holding his middle.

Feeling rather bold, I charge my black orc warboss on a wyvern right into the furnace on my first turn and he hits like a Thunderbolt from hell, destroying the furnace on the charge and taking no wounds (for some reason he allocated all attacks against the orc and not the squishy wyvern).

He fails his LD, twice. unit flees, and the chain reaction of failed panic tests sees everything o the board except a single unit of Slaves (this guy seems to always roll snake eyes for his slaves..) and 2 lightning cannons.


since then ive fielded the orc maybe twice, and every time i end up winning as he throws every last peice of his army at the warboss and ignores the rest of my army.

Bad luck when I charged a unit of Glade Riders with my blood knights and failing to wound at all, he in return wounded 5 times and killed 5 knights

Other bad luck i played against empire and in the 1st turn, he killed my master necromancer and my vampire with 2 cannons. I failed "look out sir" 2 times and they were my only casters.

Yes, I once killed an HE archmage with a zombie, even though he had a ward save, yet the game was still a draw despite getting like 400pts for killing the mage

similar situation, group of 20 zombies buffed up to like 40 through IoN vs an HPA, he kept rolling the 3d6 attack, but kept rolling 1's and an occasional 2. over 3 rounds of combat, fluffed attacks and regen, the zombies actually managed to dust his full wound HPA. made my day
