RE: Malikos' VC! - Vampire Lord done!

So awesome! :D
I don't think I could come up with any criticism.

RE: Malikos' VC! - Vampire Lord done!

This army is shaping up to be something pretty special! What I love about it from what I've seen so far, is that there is a distinct feel of a uniform and colour scheme but you've managed to make each unit feel separate. I also really like the conversions. The Vampire Lord is really nice and the Goblin Ghost is one of those little details that makes people look twice. I'm all for those!
Well done pal, I look forward to seeing some more paint put down!

Cheers,

u_m

RE: Malikos' VC! - Vampire Lord done!

Really good looking vampire lord you've got there. The only thing I'd consider is that the details of the bats on the base are somewhat lost as they share a similiar color with the vampire. At least it appears so in the photo from behind, but that can also just be the photo messing up with my eyes.

Nice work, really love the uniform feel of your army.

RE: Malikos' VC! - Vampire Lord done!

Thanks everyone!

@ Raizi - Yeah, they are a similar color and it kind of bothers me too. I made his armor a little lighter, but it still is a very close shade to the bats.

I couldn't decide on a good color for his armor. I wanted to be consistent with the armor in the rest of the army, which is that color, but the only reason it was that color was to have the color mixed into my grave guard unit. They have a lot less of it and the more I painted this guy I realized it was going to conflict with the bats. I may decide to color the bats a dark grey / black to help them stand out less. The more I think of it, the more I like the idea of dark grey bats with purple wings. Hm... I'll have to think on it.

RE: Malikos' VC! - Vampire Lord done!

Maybe add some flesh tones to the purple to the bat wings. That way you will differentiate them from the armour etc. As for the fur/skin, grey could work nicely but maybe opt for a more yellowy-grey than bluey-grey. That way it'll just tie in nicely with the armour.

Cheers,

u_m

RE: Malikos' VC! - Vampire Lord done!

I can tell the upper body is the lord that comes with the zombie dragon, but what did you use for the legs? And where did the bats come from?

Oh, and a grave guard shield!

RE: Malikos' VC! - Vampire Lord done!

Stunning! I love this model. You sir, have put together a model worthy of leading your army.
Nice job!

RE: Malikos' VC! - Vampire Lord done!

You all figured it out, he is a combination of Konrad / Dragon Rider / Grave Guard.

@u_m - Thanks for the suggestions, I'll use them when I go back and redo a few things.

@BlackBard - Thanks, I'm really happy with how it turned out as well. I thought it was only fitting that I try to make my most powerful model in my army (quickblood, red fury, ogre blade, mmmmmm) look as cool as possible.

Thanks for looking!

RE: Malikos' VC! - Vampire Lord done!

Awesome looking army!! Nice clean painting all around!

If your freehand is terrible ... I wish I was as bad as you!

And every time I see an army painted up to this standard I compare it to my stuff ... and my spirit to paint dies a little.

RE: Malikos' VC! - Vampire Lord done!

@ Legion - Thanks! I've seen your varg, that fool looked great! When you going to finish that vampire?

Here is a blurry cell phone update! Ghouls!

Let's see ... carry the 1 ... divide by pi ... June 28, 2017. J/K

I'm currently working on the glazing thing by running laboratory tests on animals - aka old skink models. Still working on getting the flesh layers painted on 4 skinks and then I will try a couple of glazes on them using some of the advice Monkey's_Uncle gave me.

Nice looking group shot! What did you use to make your movement tray?

RE: Malikos' VC! - Ghouls Update

Absolutely fantastic project, it is easily one of my favourites ever! The purple and bone colour scheme is superb, it really brings to life a lot of the details that might otherwise go begging. Keep up the awesome work!!

RE: Malikos' VC! - Ghouls Update

@Legion - The movement trays were done for me by a friend. He made me a bunch of custom movement trays, some raise counters and some special charge markers. He's a nice guy =).

@Il Maestro - Thanks! Glad you like the color scheme, it was a happy accident.

So, I've been working hard on learning the army instead of painting it! I think I've settled on a fairly solid list so now it is time to paint like a madman!!!

Here is a WIP shot of my 2nd unit of wolves. Still need to do the teeth, add shrubs, highlight the tree stuff.

Here is another WIP shot of the ghoul unit. Added the horrors in here for fillers since they are painted. Still have to finish up a few more ghouls, will probably build a few and put them in the trees too.

Lovely work there Maliko!

I just love the crisp colours, a painting style I more often than not use myself.

I must ask you where you got those movement trays from?

Cheers

@Santawraith - Thanks, I will do that!

@Warpstoned - Thanks! The movement trays were made for me by a friend.

Speaking of the movement trays, I can't decide which I think looks better. The shiny black plastic look, or the painted look. Please help me decided!

Here is one painted:

I think the textured/painted movement tray looks much better! And I agree with Vectra 100%, the spirit host is awesome. Those whirls, are they freehand?

Wonderful spirit host. The blues and the whirl details are wonderful to look at. That is another model I would have on my desk and look at every so often. ANOTHER KEEPER!

I think I like the painted look better, it makes it look more like part of the unit rather than a movement tray. And really nice work on the spirit host there, it's a very subtle conversion that really works, coupled with a superb paintjob to make it stand out! Well done!
