As every good hardcore Warhammer 40,000 player knows, the new Tyranids are now available for Advanced Order on the Games-Workshop website. As a Tyranid player, I am really excited for these new models, although it will require me to learn the army over again with all of the proposed changes being made. The new models are so great, however, that I almost feel that it's worth it, especially with the fact that many of them are some of the most fairly priced models that Games Workshop has produced in a while.
The new Trygon is my favorite new model, especially considering the fact that it is a little over 1/3 of the price of the Forge World one and opens up the doors to some pretty interesting conversions (Malanthropes, anyone?). I was considering buying the Troll Forged Trygon for the price, but now that the price has dropped I think I'll scratch that idea. I might get the Troll Forged One for a Mawloc, though, because that's what it looks like.

Games-Workshop professes that it wants to reduce the shooting phase in the Tyranid army, but I'm not sure how they propose to do that while they are releasing new models like the Hive Guard, Pyrovore and Venomthrope, pictured below:

So, what does the Deap Space forum think about these new models and developments?

Ah crap. Well I suppose its a good job I haven't bought any Tau yet, as with models like that I think I am going to have to go back to my first 40K love xd

Though I do profess, I have no idea what a Pyrovore and Venomthrope are?

You know its funny because I heard you say on my blog that you were starting a new Tyranid army, but then as soon as I started Tau you apparently followed suit... xD

As far as I've heard the Pyrovore is a new sort of indirect fire Biovore that is much more powerful, sort of a weaker Basilisk for the Tyranid army. I'm not sure if I'll pick any of these guys up but I might. The kit is damned expensive, though ($33 US for one of the beasties).
The Venomthrope I'm guessing is some sort of light melee-Psyker. All GW has said at the moment is that it will have 2+ Poisoned Attacks.

As it is, Tau are a weaker army. Tyranids are not only epic, they're also the race that is the 2nd most likely to win (the first being Orkz, cuz Orkz iz green an G standz fer good), will also likely be one of the stronger armies, and have awesome models (face it, that Trygon is going to kill everything just by looking scary)

And the Imperial Infantryman's Uplifting Primer refers to Tau as resembling "Terran Bovine Creatures", thus making them the Cau. Oh, and you auto win if a Venomthrope falls over. New rule.

Nids!
Tau look less and less cool the more you collect them. (My lil bro has them)
Drybrushing fire warriors is on the the most boring things hobby wise i have seen in my life.
Nids are just so nice and gribbly, and nice and convertable, and they have so many awesome references you can work into them (starship troopers, aliens, etc)
I considered collecting nids and IG won out, but I will collect them in the future.
They are alot of fun to play is one thing I have heard. One guy at the gaming club i go to, had a large unit of hormogaunts that took down a bloodthirster in one round of combat in one game. True story.
I played against nids once, and had alot of fun getting splattered across the table (carnifexes are so scary! 2+ armour save! regenerating wounds! invulnerable save! good toughness! can wreck tanks in cc and at range!)

They don't? Not even from an upgrade?
Well, they pretty much are unstoppable as is (especially as I forgot about the instant kill from lascannons in that game)(I have 3 leman russes. Because I forgot about instant kill, that thing survived the entire game despite my best efforts)
I did have a particularly effective veteran squad with a power fist that really wreaked havoc against the nids warriors :p (and almost took out the carnifex)

Unless they are isolated from Synapse in an Apocalypse game in which you are using a Destroyer stength weapon against them, Carnifexi can never be Instant Killed. You have to grind down their wounds one by one.
Neither can Warriors. Ever.

lol i havnt played in a little while, i think i meant the whole ap2 thing on the lascannons, not instant kill...i need to refresh on the rules lolz.
Too think...to field 3 leman russes, and then forget about lascannons being ap2, when that is their greatest strength....

Good Idea.
Unfortunatly the snipers I got among the other IG stuff I was given are not in the best state of repair.
When I get back into IG again at some point, will have to work a sniper team into the list.

Hey, some news from the rumor mill came in with some rules rumors for the new Codex:
-Hormagaunts got a point of Initiative and their points are halved (finally, I have 80 of the buggers and never use them).
-Gargoyles get a Fantasy poisoned attack and their points are halved too.
-Warriors got another wound and are shifted to Troops! You can still take 'Alpha Warriors' as HQ, however. It looks like I'm going to be getting myself some more warriors because these changes are AWESOME!
-Lictors lost the 0-1 limit and gained a Wound.
-Genestealers dropped a couple of points.
-Broodlords are now upgrades for Genestealer broods rather than HQ choices. I hope they get a new model, but that's not gonna happen.
-The Venomthrope grants a 5+ cover save to nearby models. Looks interesting.
-The Pyrovore is apparently a close combat monster with a flame-template weapon. I'm sort of intrigued by this guy.
-Zoanthropes lose the 0-1 choice.
-Carnifexi get a Ballistic Skill boost and are now able to be taken in squads of 3, like Imperial Guard tanks. I'm liking the possible sound of 20 Monsterous Creatures in an army.... xD
-I guess there will be some new Weapons Symbiotes as well, like the Hive Guard's Harpoon Cannon.
-Mawlocs and Trygons are not Monsterous Creatures, but no other information on them as of yet.

Well after looking at the new models it looks like I am going back nids. My first love in 40K, so appropriate I suppose.

When is the new Codex out? I don't want to accidentally buy the old one xd

Welcome to the club, DoN. Well, back to the club, I should say.
The new book is due out around mid-January, somewhere around the sixteenth of that month. Apparently Games-Workshop had some printing issues and had to push the release back a couple of days. The new book should look like this:

Oooh. Well I did say to the missus I might wait to Jan to get myself something for xmas, so a nid battleforce plus some nice other bits should maker a nice belated xmas pressie.

Funny DoN, Nids were my first 40k love.
I some how faded away from them unfortunately. I really have no excuse for it :'(
I always did so well with them. Even when I lost I had my opponent nervous.
I played both the Guard and Nids in their 4th edition, but I moved away from them unfortunately in my sub-concious desire to try all the types of races and playstyles.
Now that I've had a taste of many races and playstyles I think I'm ready to settle in with the one.
I was in love with the Guard's mass firing lines and now with the orders, my vision of a true and organized military army could come true. I'm drawn to these guys...regular men are set against all odds and are sent straight from training to the hellish warzones, yet they beat the odds over and over again.
But the Tyranids always tugged at my heart with their awesome diversity and overwhelming odds. Now the rumors of the changes of the codex are shouting at me.

I am so torn between the two. :zombie1:

Vampire Counts always have their half of my gaming heart though. xD

poo! I thought we guard had the market cornered on taking 3 of a superweapon for one choice (with leman russes)
Oh well.
One prob with having 3 leman russes or 3 carnifexes as one unit.
You have to make the entire trio fire at one target. 3 battlecannons, 3 lascannons, 6 heavy bolters, 3 heavy stubbers. All fired on one target per shooting phase. Overkill much?
Thats why atm my guard list has each leman russ being a seperate choice, instead of 3 for one choice (that will have to change when I want to use those 2 heavy support choices for more tanks/artillery)
And having 3 tanks in formation like that....such a nightmare when the enemy gets his power fists into combat by turn 2 or 3
(true story, one of my regular opponents who I really enjoy gaming against, did the following to me, all on turn 1)
step 1- land a drop pod with a dreadnaught in it and a beacon on it next to my leman russes
step 2- use termy librarian to teleport himself and a squad of termies with thunder hammers to the beacon
step 3- use a land raider crusader and its assault ramp ability to move and unload a unit of termies with lightning claws towards my line, whiles till allowing the termies to use their move to get into cc with my tanks/troops
step 4- wipe out half my army by t3
Was good fun however, we both had a good laugh.
I think I managed to kill the dreadies multi melta, and even took out a termy and some of his troops :p

Nids of course will not have as much as a prob as leman russes, as they are way less shooty and way more assaulty than the games finest tank. (If I were to play apocalypse, I would make my army entirely out of Leman Russes. Comon, for less points than a land raider, it has twice as much firepower and almost equal armour, comes in 3 for one choice and can move and still shoot due to its lumbering behemoth rule)

Through sheer lucky timing I find myself sat at home, looking at my new Trygon/Mawloc plastic kit!

There are 3 variants that you can build...

Trygon...

Mawloc...

&...

...who wants to know the 3rd one?
