One combo I am quite interested in using is:

Ghoul King
- red fury, aura of dark majesty, beguile
- fencers blades, glittering scales, DBG... And maybe a potion of strength.

He would be impossible to hit, all basic troops are hitting on 6's and you could have enemy characters hitting on 5's and potentially re-rolling.

GKs can't have magic armor.

I'm looking forward to trying this oddball build out. I designed it with the purpose of being able to do something in all phases of the game, and for handing out various status effects just for being around. It's expensive and flawed but I think it can be a hoot to play with some thoughtful use. :)

Vampire Lord
-Flying Horror, Aura of Dark Majesty, Beguile, Dread Knight (optional for when fighting Hydras)
-Skabscrath, Dragonhelm, Seed of Rebirth, Ironcurse Icon
-Heavy Armour, Shield
-Level 4 Wizard

This one can fly around to keep even a spread out frontline marching and can easily hide inside infantry units. When closing in on the enemy it can try to nestle in among the enemy line to spread its Aura and scream at things with Skabscrath. It should handle most small things and even some monsters on its own in close combat, especially if the target is softened up with a death shriek first.

I would be worried because Skabascrath gives you frenzy. I wouldn't want to take the chance of failing my LD and charging alone into the flank of a big ole block of Exocutioners or Temple Guard with my general.

Yeah, that's a real downside for an important flying character. You'd want to keep a BSB around as much as possible and when you do take the lord out on its own you would ideally want to keep one or more suitable targets inside the forward arc in case you're forced to charge.

Yes, if the lord can reach the target while the unit can't. If both can possibly reach the target you can sound a charge for the unit as a whole to keep the lord inside it.

Interesting.

Actually, does the same apply to a Lord who can't fly?

I ask since they still have higher movement than most of our foot units (M6 compared to M4).

Yes it should. If an enemy is 17-18'' away from the lord and his unit, and the lord fails his frenzy test, only he is allowed to declare the charge since the unit can't possibly reach the enemy.

I tried my posted build out in a battle this weekend. The battle went poorly but the lord was entertaining, although coming with a serious case of "Ooh, I could be over there doing this... or over there doing that..."

Is there a thing as having too many options? o.o

Actually, i am working on this one for ETC. She is the Master of Challenges:

Great Weapon
Glittering Scales
Talisman of preservation
Other Trickster´s Shard

Dread Knight
Beguile
AoDM

So, she has WS 9, with a -1 to hit. A Chaos Lord, for example, hits her with 5s, and also has to take a Ld test with a -4, or must re-roll the succesful dice. ¿The cost?: 182,5 ss

Oh, and the BSB is a Vampire with the shadow signature spell, and the level 4 is a master necrodeath... :devil2:

That's a good tank, Hugo. Red Fury could also find its place in there to give some more bite against challenge opponents, if you've got the points for it.

I was thinking about the flying Skabscrath lord I posted earlier. I think it'd be a decent counter against enemy Terrorgheists which are reportedly hard to deal with for VC unless you've got them yourself. A death shriek will likely do a Terrorgheist in if it's away from the general's leadership.

Thanks, MasterSpark.

But, i can´t take Red Fury due to ETC restrictions, with the list i´m building. And even if i could take it, i don´t think it´s necessary. Of course is always good have it, but the main function of the character is stopping and killing other pjs, not the troop, wich is when red fury becomes awesome.

And the dread knight is probably going out. I just thought of having to defy mandatory to a character riding a monster (or a monster itself, as a daemon prince), and remembered the THUNDERSTOMP... then suddenly my "brilliant" build became a lot less, uh... shiny, XDDDDD

Somewhat like Thread-o-mancy. Sorry.

Just figuring if this build would be ok for a Vamp Lord

Vampire Count + Level 4 Wizard + Heavy Armour + Great Weapon + Red Fury + Aura of Dark Majesty + Beguile + Dread Knight + Talisman of Preservation + Nightshroud + Other Trickster Shard

His only real drawback is that he attacks last, (which personally I don't think is so bad), he does miss out on the re-rolls to hit however the higher WS of Dread Knight would help offset that loss against characters.

By taking the gw and not an ogre blade I can afford the night shroud which affords additional protection and removes ASF from pesky elf characters.

I do intend on taking this guy with a corpse cart nearby so that can help offset the ASL

Beguile and AoDM (with Dread Knight) allows additional protection against characters and monsters I can afford this set up by skipping Quickblood.

@Gilbo: It looks okay, I suppose, if you're cool with losing re-rolls and the risk of not going first. Remember that Dread Knight will mean that your Lord will get stuck in challenges against Champs and therefore won't do a lot of grinding.

Thanks Sun King, yeah I figure the Dread Knight is for a bit of fluff considering the model I am going to use, (bought it a few days ago), here is a link to it.

Pale skin and blood running down the chin and I think he'd pass as a vampire ;)

Thanks, I rarely see Non-strigoi Vampires with big muscles so this guy will look quite intimidating, (perhaps why he has the AoDM ;) ). You'd think that a powerful hero who has turned would keep his bulked up physique rather than attend slim down aerobics lol. Additionally it looks much better than the GW GW wielding vamp with the over-sized Blood Dragon Crest.

Yeah I found out about the bigger base after I got him  I'm sure he'll fit, some other models they have in selection have splayed legs but this guy's legs are fairly straight down so I think it should be ok. I don't mind if a bit of the rock is hanging off.

If you're on a Horse, take a lance instead of a great weapon. Also, if you TAKE a Great weapon you can't use a shield.

Good advice, I can see the sense of a GW since it means +2 S for the grind instead of hoping to break your enemy on the charge every single time ;)

well drop the shield.....and I will still get +2 armor......
nightshroud gives them always strike last so does that mean I will still get the rerolls anyway since quickblood negates my ASL with the greatweapon

Got a concept for a Dragon Lord, wanted some advice/feedback

Lord on Zombie Dragon:
Beguile, DK, ASF. Glittering Scales, ToP, Sword of Might and a Shield
comes in at 608 points.

with -2 to hit him and ws9 he should prove a problem for most characters that he will be forced to challenge. however, it does mean he is very versatile and shouldn't need to fear too many targets. Expensive, but worth it?
