Hi guys,

I'm 'Nos' - it is for me that Jake has been slaving away for the last however-many months and now that the commission is just about complete (the army shipped yesterday) I'd like to give my thoughts on what it's been like to work with Jake.

As Sanai pointed out I am lucky. But not just because I've now got this fantastic army but also because I had the chance to work with Jake on the project itself which has simply been a complete and utter joy. I've got a pretty hectic job making painting such any kind of an army virtually impossible but through his skill, patience, good humour and imagination I've watched this army rise from the grave exactly as I'd imagined it!

You all know that Jake is an amazing painter but he is also an incredibly creative, artisitc guy who has an instinctive understanding of what you want for your models and he always, ALWAYS gets them there. In conjunction with that creativity Jake redefines the word perfectionist, which as far as I'm concerend, is a pretty awesome trait in a guy that is painting models for you! I'm not exaggerating when I say that at several points in this commission he's completely repainted an already beautiful model just to capture something slightly different in it.

But possibly most important of all, Jake is one of the coolest guys I've ever met. Whether you're looking for a commission painter or just want someone to chat about ideas for your army you will not find a nicer, more talented guy than him.

I'm currently working on my mini for my Secret Santa. Here's is the progress I have on him so far. The mini will be a workshop for myself on the ability to accurately age metals with washes. Any C&C is greatly appreciated.

i just saw at the show this weekend andrea had an armour painting or silver painting kit that looked interesting. i remember they had a at least 2 washes 1 was like gw mud but the second was a blue wash, thought it was interesting and pass it on. i know thier easy way to paint flesh kit is very nice.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I looked around as well and found the same thing. I'm currently under the guidance of Automaton from CMON. That guy is a wiz at painting real metallics!

Here's an early Christmas present that I welcomed into my apartment. My great friend of mine and I are exchanging gifts and she helped me get this table by "giftcarding" at my local event center. My local event center made a slew of these tables for sale as they are expanding and I just had to pick this set up. It's a desert theme, I know, but I'm looking at dry brushing it white to theme it winter for my Warriors of Chaos horde.

Wolfie, the skin I used as a basecoat is Dheneb Stone: one of the foundation paints you can pick up.

I really like your work so far, Jake. The blending is very well done and I can barely tell if the armor is NMM or just normal metallics, which is superb, as that's the goal of either method. I also like the darker skin tone you have chosen for the wing and the blending you did to merge it with the rest of the vampires skin. I'm not sure on the black flames on his wings though. Sure, they're well executed, but I don't really think they fit, to be honest. Imo you should have kept it with the blending that shows through below the fire thing. Apart from that little point of criticism, good result. Your recipient will be very happy!

Thanks for the feedback guys! That's the general consensus I'm getting back about the wing: either people love it or don't like it. They're supposed to emulate dark veins/ seeping dark tendrils of magic coming from him changing so it's meant to be abrupt like that. It's a bit experimental, I know, but the look has grown on me a bit.

Made some more progress for the evening:

Used this guy tonight to keep my mind off some things my neighbor is going through. He's a great guy and a wonderful friend of mine who is really into Warhammer. He's been there through all the b.s. I've been through in the past year. He's currently in the hospital due to heart complications; if you could please keep him in your thoughts!

Mini's looking good so far. Not too convinced about the wing right now (painting's good though), but I'll hold of judgment untill it's completely finished. Might just stick out a bit because of the other unfinished parts.

I love the effect on the wing, it looks brilliant. I still think the dark skin on the wing is a bit abrupt from the pale skin of the body.
The whole thing looks really menacing

Tonight I took a break from painting as I needed to just decompress after a very long day.

Good news though! My neighbor has been released from the hospital and is back in his own place. Incredibly tired and out of it, he's on his way to recovery. I took the evening to catch up with him again and just shoot the breeze about some WH stuff. He also thanks you for your thoughts and concerns!
