RE: Rising an army from the dead...Updated 15.06

To be honest I wondered myself why crossess... well, they are really old sculpts and yes, instant recognition too... Anyway...
Another 5 zombies of my 2/3/4 edition zombie unit. There are 20 zombies painted now, still 10 left to do from 2/3 edition and 5 (kind of command group) will be made from 4 edition...

What next... I will add two wolves to my unit. Will make them 10 figures strong, one of the base will be made from really old miniatures of werewolves. Then Ghouls probably.

RE: Rising an army from the dead...Updated 20.06

Skeletons this time. This is one of my old unit, painted about 20 years ago. Originally skeletons were armed with scythes, but I changed that to hand weapons and shields. Shields are made by myself...
Some other photos and more detailed description on the blog.

RE: Rising an army from the dead...Updated 21.06

Time for some new miniatures. I decided to make my dire wolves unit a little bigger, pushing it to ten. I will be able to split them into two 5 wolves units if necessary. I wanted to add some flavour to the unit too, so... werewolves.
First of the two planned minidioramas is ready. More info and photos, as usual, on my blog.

Haha wow! Now this is a mini diorama. I love it! That dire wolves unit is going to look fantastic when they're all done like that. Awesome work my friend.

RE: Rising an army from the dead...Updated 08.07

Adored this plog. I have soft spot for the old models as some of the other members will tell you, and seeing a lot of them here is fantastic. The style of painting you are using is very classic undead as well, and it is superbly implemented with good sharp lines and excellent shading.

Great work, and I very much hope I will see some of the golden oldies in the Golden Bat competition.

Thanks for comments:)
And... Let me introduce last five of my 2/3 edition zombies. There are five more being painted right now, they will still be part of the same unit but these zombies are from 4th edition.

Very nice, I love the guy in the middle with the coffin top shield. How long have you had all these models? I couldn't even imagine trying to find them now-a-days.

Jake

To be honest I don't remember specific date. I think it is about 15-16 years now. I got them during one of my business visits in GW headquarters then, it was just before releasing new zombies from 4th edition, Ive got them too then, just before them being released to the stores. I got large empty cardboard box and was told to "grab what you want and whats on the shelves in this magazine".

RE: Rising an army from the dead...Updated 15.07

Final five zombies for my unit. This time all of them are from 4th edition, sculpted by Gary Morley. THE WORST undead sculptor ever hired by GW. I absolutely hate most of his creations, these five here were carefully selected and I hate them to a slightly lesser degree;)
Photo of completed unit will be published in a day or two.

RE: Rising an army from the dead...Updated 23.07

Hi there Inkub. I've been following your zombie painting on your blog. Your zombies look great. I prefer the 3rd edition zombies, they are frankly beautiful. The Gary Morley zombies....less so. There are a few decent ones in the Morley range, like the soldier and the one with the cleaver and kettle hat, but most of them are muck. It's the posing in a lot of cases. It's just a bit unimaginative.

RE: Rising an army from the dead...Updated 23.07

I can see You following my blog;) And I'm following yours:) Nice old miniatures there:)
Speaking of Morley's undeads. Poses are lacking, that's true. But what I really, really can't stand out are horrible weapons. They are oversized even in comparision with other GW miniatures from 4th edition. When I look at the bretonnian man at arms or high elves or skaven... all of them are armed in much smaller swords etc.
The one in kettle helmet is ok, it's nicely detailed (for Morley's sculpt of course. To be honest I think it would be even better then the one with the club I painted.
I like one other zombie from this line. The one with spiked mace and bare head, with entrails spilling off. I even thought about painting it but this mace is so HUGE. Easily twice as big as his head... This one would be very easy to convert though but I'm not huge fan of converting minis before I have painted original version in the army.

RE: Rising an army from the dead...Updated 23.07

Yep, mummies are definitely one of the worst... Still, I have all of them painted, it was very hard hitting unit;) Pity they are totally unusable now, not even in TK army.

And here it is final look of whole zombie unit. As a horde, with 5 additional tombstones, and without it.

Sorry for plain movement tray at the last photo but I have had to remade these photos few times and putting together 40 metal models with overhanging weapons etc is not that easy... So I just used old movement tray. New ones are in production:)

RE: Rising an army from the dead...Updated 26.07

I just started work on next unit, ghouls this time. This unit will be painted from the very beginning, as I have only three ghouls painted about ten years ago. Some more were basecoated then and two of them were painted now. So, first five ghouls are ready. Three middle ones are my old works...

RE: Rising an army from the dead...Updated 29.09

Lovely painting log and I do love to see so many old models painted to a high standard!

I went for a darker colour scheme myself (https://www.vampirecounts.net/Thread-A-Cry-From-The-Crypt-Undead-Army-PICS-PIC-HVY) but the clean bright look makes this a really striking army! I do think it's a shame that you hide so many lovely models (metal skeletons) in the rear ranks, and please put the two morley zombies that are not command figures in the back of the unit as well! xD

I think your newly painted ghouls have a nicer skin tone than your older ghouls, but both are very nice and colourful. Keep it up!

RE: Rising an army from the dead...Updated 29.09

Just noticed that there was some reply... Sorry Pil. Well, Your army is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. I own most of your models too (especially skeletons) but your painted models are just superb. Army is big, it is beautifully painted and looks as true horde of evil undead:)
Regarding my ghouls - yes, my new ones are better, I agree. That's because 10 years separates them;)
I'm slowly building this unit, five ghouls at a time... Four finished, one left to paint this week. And this is a taste of things to come...

RE: Rising an army from the dead...Updated 19.10 - Ghouls

Ha... Necromancing my own thread...
I managed to paint some additional figures for my undead army, based mainly on old sculpts... Some photos of them...

First - two of about 20-30 old skeletons I will paint and use as newly risen warriors. I'm slowly painting them in ones and twos...

Two next ghouls, both very old sculpts:

RE: Rising an army from the dead...Updated 09.04 - varia

Very nice all around. I'm building a very similar army, similar figures and a similar painting style so this is great to see. I have a bunch of the same old models as I started getting them in the late 80s. I love those old zombies (yeah, not the Morley ones) and have about 30-35 myself. I wish I had more. I have about 15 painted and will be doing more soon. I'll post them in my own plog soon. I also really like that edition of ghoul models. I like the current plastic ghouls too but the style is totally different. I'm thinking of doing a mix-and-match ghoul unit with the tall lanky ones in back and the new more feral ones in front, to kind of show a further level of degeneration. I hope that if the painting style is the same, the unit will still look good and make sense even though the models are different.

Keep up the good work!

Ben
